People really don't mess with me that much. I can only think of three occurrences and of course, I don't give in cause well I'm more mature than that. I have nothing to prove. If you threw $5k into a 1989 Civic and could kick my @ss, good for you!

1. F-250 kept gassing and braking next to me. Just trying to get me to race. I just maintained my speed and ignored him. Eventually he stopped.

2. Some redneck in a POS Ranger called my car slow at a light. I just laughed and said "Oh yeah? Is it?"

3. Some high school kid in a red 350 would not stop revving at me from across the street. Like in a crowded city, this kid was just revving and staring at me. It was embarrassing. He passed me revving and staring and I just laughed.

People...

I get the occasional wave but no invitations to race. But I don't really look for that kind of stuff, so maybe it's happening and I just don't notice.

If someone is trying to goad me into a race, they are wasting their time. I have a pretty good idea of what the car can do and don't need to prove it anyone. And it wouldn't bother me a bit if I had the slowest car in town - the Z is plenty fast for me.

Rofl. Great read for Friday morning. After following me a while a Toyota something passed me on the interstate this morning going down hill. I was on cruise at 75. I then had to pass him no more than 15 sec later b/c I was now on his *** due to him slowing down. I just don't get ppl. Maybe he likes to save his brakes.

I get the occasional slow driver until they see me coming up behind them and then they gun it to stay ahead of me. Fine by me b/c I know where I'm going and I just want to get there. No competition anxiety ever. I'm fine with drafting.

I get sick of all the effing mustangs and camaros that act like their car is one-of-a-kind when really I see six of the exact same car every day in traffic. I see another 370 maybe a handful of times a month. As far as racing, I will not back down even to a Buick. I dusted a Lotus Alize the other day, but last night a corvette waxed me. JUST KEEP MODDING!!

I mostly get people asking about the car and how much it was while driving. Not much to do when you're stuck in traffic going 5mph.

I just find it offensive when I'm minding my own business, going 5mph or 10mph over the speed limit, look in my rear view mirror and people are tailgating or trying to act like speed racers pretty much almost everyday. Theres probably only a few days where theres no BS.

Your alls stories are helping me out to mature a little bit. Thanks

The few times that has happened to me, I just let off the throttle and coast until they pass.

A quick brake check can work wonders but can also be dangerous. See The one thing I hate about the Z

I agree OP, it does get annoying from time to time. With the good, there also usually comes the bad. I love when I get shouted compliments, waves, thumbs up, etc..but I hate all the other attention. People gathering around your car in parking lots, cars trying to race, vehicles riding my a**. Just because I drive a sports car there seem to be people that think I should be go much faster than the speed limit .

This is all part of owning a car like the Z, though.

Default Use Them As Entertainment!

I have a theory as to why this happens so much with the Z. I think it's because of envy that leads to immediate competitiveness and emulation. You see, the Z is designed to perform well in every category. Even though it is not the absolute best in any particular category (except looks IMO) the sum of the parts literally dwarfs whatever those morons are driving while giving them some shred of hope that they can beat you at something.

People that mock are usually envious and the ones that want to pull right next to you and rev their engines are emulating what they perceive you are doing by simply existing. These are the ultimate compliments. Unfortunately folks with lower emotional intelligence give in to the impulses and go into caveman mode thereby losing control and acting like idiots. All you have to do is observe the egos running crazy and it will provide years and years of entertainment while keeping you safe. Don't let it get to you OP.

Brake check is absolutely no-no

The best method is to downshift a gear or two (or whatever is appropriate for your gear and speed). If they've been annoying you already, first step is to speed up slightly (give yourself room in front first if you need to) to create just a little space between you and them. They will then speed up as well, likely much more than is necessary. When they are approaching closer, downshift and watch their car in your rear view mirror. As soon as you see their car's nose dip cause they're braking, give it some good throttle and pull away sharply. I've never had to do this more that a couple of times to get tailgating vehicles to back off.

And if people are racing up behind you and/or tailgating, just imagine it's a cop wanting to see how good you look in that porsche, I mean Z and just keep your cool and cruise. Lol.

Excellent analysis. Not sure it's 100% true but it sounds good.

Not sure why, but I don't run into many moronic drivers. The occasional person that follows too close before passing or cuts back in too soon but I chalk that up to poor driving skills, not aggression. Maybe it's the open-carry gun laws in AR.

I've been known to pull next to a car that looks good and give the engine a few revs just to say "Hi!" Nice car." - usually accompanied by a wave or thumbs up. I've gotten a few "vroom vrooms" back but nobody took it as a challenge to race (if they did, they ignored it).

This car makes it really easy to put space between me and other drivers I'm not interested in being near. Frankly, my goal when I drive is to not be near other cars. I will accelerate and slow down as necessary to accomplish. 95% of the time it is in a safe and considerate fashion because the other cars are being safe and considerate. It's that 5% that I just get impatient with on occasion.

**edit**
I should qualify that the idiots who rev are not in vehicles that anyone is interested in hearing their engine revs. If someone in a respectable car (yes... even a mustang), came up and made eye contact as they revved some lovely engine notes, that's different. Like I said, my windows are almost always down, and I would usually be chatting with the driver in this type of situation. If they ask to go, I just respond "up to the speed limit, sure", except for the occasional instances where the car isn't warmed up fully, which I tell them.
