Default No current gear indicator on non-sport?

So I was just on a 370Z FB page and I saw a picture of a 2010 6MT Touring 370Z gauge cluster and it didn't have the current gear indicator window. It blew me away, I'd never seen that before. Is it just the non-sport 6MT's that don't have this? I know the 6MT with SP all have it, as do the 7AT's cause in manual mode you would want to see the current gear.

Why would Nissan omit this on just non-sport 6MT's? Furthermore, they didn't advertise it as a feature of the sport package. All I remember being advertised was the bigger brakes, bigger/different Rays, tires, SRM, front chin spoiler and rear lip spoiler. I love the current gear indicator, never mind everything else. I would have spent the 4k for the sport package just for that indicator!

Just funny in 4 years of being on this forum, and seeing hundreds of Z photos, and thousands of posts, I didn't know this. NOW I must finally know everything about the Z! Lol

The SRM has the sensors for the gear indicator on the manual Z. So with no SRM, no gear indicator.

That makes sense from a technical perspective now. I'm just surprised they didn't list it as something else you get, people wouldn't immediately know gaining SRM means you get that too. Cool.

I think some of the early model 7AT did not have the gear indicator in manual mode, not 100% sure just remember seeing it somewhere.

You are correct. My '09 Touring 7AT just says "M" when in manual mode.

When was your '09 made (see sticker on left side door sill; top left corner of sticker)? Mine was born in June of '09.

mine says "D" in drive

the gear # in when placed in manual mode.

and if i pull a paddle while in "D" it'll then change to the gear # with a little "M" next to it.

Not really... I never look at the gear indicator when I'm shifting. Right now I drive a 6MT. But in my old car I had DCT and I would never look at what gear I was on. I kind of judged down/up shifting based on Rpms. It's just a nice luxury feature for drivers IMHO

My bad. It says "D" when in auto mode and which gear in manual mode. Sorry about that.

It would be nice to know what gear it's in when in auto.

or just leave it in manual mode

i honestly cant tell you the last time i actually had it in regular auto mode. maybe when moving it a few feet out of the garage to wash it lol

It's not that big of a deal to me. Just seems kind of dumb for Nissan to not show it when all it would take is a little programming (no other hardware needed).

The longer I drive the Z the more I use manual mode. First car I've had that had an auto like the Z's. Still haven't gotten used to using the paddles; I end up bumping the stick.

i only use the paddles when drag racing or track driving or similar style where both hands need to be on the wheel.

normal everyday DD'ing and whatnot i use the stick. actually i have worn a smooth spot on the shift knob

one or two above what it should be at...

I'm always in manual mode because it wants to find the highest gear possible all the time and with modded exhaust system it just sounds bad...that and its more fun.
