Default First time got a pull over ... Speeding ticket

The problem is that the street was crowded at the time and I was driving slow

Ok, here is my story. I was driving with my girlfriend to get dinner this evening at around 5:30 - 6:00. The street is one of the most crowded street around here. I was driving really slow and I almost have to stop at every traffic light.

Then, when I almost arrived at the restaurant, I looked at the mirror and I saw a cop car. there were about 4 other cars between I and him. He drove really fast and changed the lanes agressively with no light on. I was thinking like " what the heck, you won't go fast without the lights on in this traffic ". I looked at my odometer as a habit and it was 40mph. Then I was preparing to get a u turn to the restaurant. Suddently, I saw him right behind me. Then, he turned his lights on and gave me the signal to pull over.

I was wondering why. I was thinking that because my exhaust is too loud. He asked me if I was wondering why I got pulled over. I asked him why, then he pulled out the speed gun which had the number of 59 on it. He said I was speeding in the 45 zone. I said no, I was in the slow traffic and I couldn't go that fast. He said that he was watching me from the parking lot of a shop on the street that I passed. He said that BY WATCHING, he could say that I was driving at about 57-60 mph. He said that he followed me and as soon as he followed, I kept accelerate. I think that's rediculous The parking lot he was standing is on the other side of the street, and from there, I was stopping at another 2 red lights with no cops behind me. I have no idea where he got the number. I told him that I was following the traffic and there was no way I would go that fast. He told me that he knew it, and he feel sorry for the ticket. He told me that if I don't accept the ticket, I can fight for it at the court. And I will definitely do it. The dinner tasted salty

Does anybody know if the cops have the quota of ticket every month ? It seems like they just throwing the ticket to random people, and they hate the Z

Fight it! If I have a ticket and I'm guilty, I pay it. I got pulled over in Las Vegas doing 29 in a 25 zone. I was in my tt rx7. I knew he was lying. I had to go to court 3 times. Each time I became more angry yet more energized to prove my innocence. On the day of the trial the DA tried to plea bargain me out for 80.00. I took it to the judge and won. It pissed me off when I found out the cop got 4 hrs of pay for showing up to testify. Good luck.
P.S. The radar gun has to be calibrated within a certain amount of time, otherwise the ticket will be thrown out.

Take it to court! The cop has to appear And provide proof of your speeding, otherwise your case gets dismissed. I got out the last two tickets by taking it to court, one the cop did not show up, and the second time the cop was not using any radar, just his eyesight and estimating how fast i was going comparing to other traffic

Ouch......there goes your appetite. I'd say fight it since it's not a highway ticket. I remember getting my first ticket for going 73 on a 65. Yeah....I know. $300 gone with a snap of a finger.

Jeez. I've flown past GSP and other departments doing a solid 10 over. That's a ridiculous ticket!

Good luck, hope you fight it and win. Do you use a radar detector? I've had the same one for years and it's probably saved my *** more times than I can count on 2 hands. I've heard one tactic for trying to "beat the system" when it comes to fighting speeding tickets and such is once you get your court date, on the day that you're due in court call and say you have a family emergency and have to reschedule. A lot of times the cop won't show up to the rescheduled date and you win by default. But don't take my word for it, I'm just some guy on the internet.

I had one in january. He claims to have clocked me using the radar at 79 in a 55.

I think he was right Anyway it was my first ticket (other than parking tickets) So I went to court. The DA at the court house told me it's a 6 point ticket but since I'm fighting it, they will reduce it to 3 points and switch it to failure to yield.

It's your right to fight it, sounds like you'd like to exercise that right. Where you at in OC?

Its pretty much a given in our local magistrate offices if you go in an ask for a break they knock it down to a traffic control device infaction, which is a fine with no points, of course you should only accept this if you are guilty to begin with. You should tell you story, the method should be marked on the ticket with a calibration date, I would question the calibration date. If it is commonly that busy on the roadways, the judge might know the road and its traffic patterns, which may aid you. Maybe do a slight research project, log the average traffic speed on that roadway during that time, if the judge is human, they may see the effort you put forth to prove your innocents over a speeding ticket, and possibly give you a break.
