Yes, it's not the fastest and it doesn't have the best handling, but it gives you just enough of both, IMO, to satisfy most people. This is something I never really appreciated until after owning both the 5.0 and S2000.

Now, is it possible you can be the best at everything? Probably. I think the C7 might get close to that level... but it's going to be a $60K + car. For the money, the Z is a pretty good value for someone that wants a good GT-style car. Not a full-on sports car or a full-on power car, but rather a well put together combination of both.

There are some small things I can nitpick over, but at the end of the day I appreciate it for what it is.
Exactly. And some of us didn't have to buy two more cars to realize it. lol Just messin witcha...
This is EXACTLY a compromise car. It will have most of what you want in every category, but will never have everything you want in one category.

I did 15/20 on the first 370 and 20/25 on the 2nd. of the two, I prefer the latter, OEM sport wheels and tires.

Chris Harris prefers cars that seem as though they are performing over ones that do. That's like preferring your vivid imagination and left hand over an actual willing sex partner.

Hm. So that means the Z is like having a hot chick who wants it and the FR-S is a bit like jerking off to a picture of one.

Somehow, those similes just ring true to me

I may go to 25mm in the rear if the 20mm doesn't look good enough for me. Not sure.

Chris cares more about driving fun than anything else, so I can see where he'd like the FRS more. You can push the hell out of that car in relative safety on the road!

I know when my S2K was on horribad all season tires it was SO much fun because it had NO grip at all. Trying to keep up with RandyD's 370 on Super Sports was a lot of fun because I was sliding all over the place at a relatively modest pace.

If I could do it over again I'd do 20/25. There is enough camber stock to prevent any rubbing issues. I wasn't sure when I ordered mine so I erred on the side of caution.

the top gear argument right there for fun. high hp sports/exotics are great, but you really can't enjoy them for what they are while obeying the law.

small hp, light weight cars you can be legal and having fun.

Agreed, that's gotta be its major strength. It's one of the sexiest cars ever designed.

That's what I had in my pics if you're just looking for a comparison.

on a different note:

As far as "what the Z is", I think Nissan is kind of torn over what they want the modern interpretation to be.

For me, the issue isn't necessarily "power" as much as it is power to weight ratio. The 240 and 280 were light cars with a moderate powerplant that drove like a dream. It seems to me that the 350 and 370 have gone away from this paradigm in the effort of chasing the bigger car/bigger engine crowd.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Z get quite a bit smaller and keep the same powerplant, or even downsize the engine (in hopes of getting a better front/rear weight ratio) to compensate for less weight.

The 370 is a "light" car in modern terms. I think they could make it a bit smaller and still appeal to their intended audience. Gas mileage, agility, and acceleration would all benefit.

I don't want to see the Z turn into a BRZ/FRS. I wouldn't mind seeing, though, a 2700-2800 pound machine with 300hp that scoots around like a go-kart.

I'd personally prefer that to a 400hp, 3600 pound monster. To me, the smaller/lighter/more agile car is more true to the Z's heritage rather than it turning into a V8 Mustang or M3 fighter.

I agree for the most part. We could say the car doesn't know what it wants to be, but maybe that's the whole point? A little bit of everything... for everyone? Just a thought.

I just got 15/ 20, so I'll see first hand if I could do more.

I think you nailed it. Perhaps Nissan is aiming for more of a broad appeal rather than mastering a certain segment.

Of course, as an enthusiast, I want the car to adhere to my 200 point specification checklist.

Want the Z to be more fun? Buy 17 inch, 7f/8r wide all season wheel/tires and turn vdc off. See if the Z doesn't throw its back out for everything.

I been inside an FRS and the cockpit is the dullest thing in the world. When you're not pushing the limits. The cockpit and commuter level power will put you to sleep for sure.

But then again I think that's the point of that car too. It's docile when you want it to be. Fling it around on some back roads, though, and it's very lively (although not fast).

I get it. Just not a fan. Wait... What really makes me not a fan is I cant understand how this car doesn't top out at $25,000??? $5,000 you're paying in RWD tax. lol. No thanks. This thing should start @ $22,000 and top out at $25,000. It doesn't deserve to be $3,000 under the Z even when fully loaded.

That was the original marketing price they set. And if they would have stuck by it. I wouldn't have anything to say. But $30,000 for this loaded is laughable... Honestly. Especially considering loaded means you have a screen and leather?

I don't have a problem with paying for performance when the price matches the performance. The BRZ/FRS doesn't make a case of justifying the price.
