I am about function too, but when it comes to weight, I don't think the weight difference of the Nav or additional electronics would have killed the performance of the Nismo. Unless it's a full blown race car, and I can say >95% of the Nismo 370z owners actually care about the stripped out stereo and turn it into a dedicated track car. They drive it daily/weekends and would prefer a nicer radio, a/c, possibly heated seats, integrated garage door opener, some maybe even automatic seat adjustments.

Maybe this is a stretch, but if you consider the GT-R for a second or a ///M3, they too have a standard Nav (GT-R w/ that PS3 display too) with all the bells and whistles. But then again those cars are a lot more expensive so one would expect that stuff to come std. I think it comes down to what the general market's willing to pay and what kind of customers they can attract.

A stripped down bare bone interior Nismo 370z at $42K, one would already question if it's really worth it. If they did try to market the JDM Nismo 370z in US, it would easily be another ~$7K-$10K. At that point, they'll realize that the market is very slim and they'll go back to what the general market would pay for and can live without. In the end I believe it's cost. This same goes with the 40th Anniversary edition, aside from US, outside market have the option to get it with a Nav. If you look at what they're already asking for the 40th Anniversary edition, we're already looking at $40K+ MSRP for the same car that's a lot less.
hi scruffy- i know wat you're saying. basically for cars that target the normal folk, it needs to be economical. especially a 2 seater, for most people it's going to be a 2nd car or even a 3rd car if household.

since the japanese yen was taking an unfair beating from the rest of the world there's no way in hell nissan couldve accomodated a fully loaded nismo under $45K... that said, i dont think hyundai ever got to their intended sales target with their genesis coupe. they may promote it as such, but at the core, i think they missed the boat since the JPY is finally weakening to a more fair level. JPY needs to be at least 140-150 range to be truely fair, imo. average standard of living is very high in japan.

nissan just kept the essentials and removed everything else to keep the nismo near $40K range so that it was still attainable by a normal folk...

im very gratful that the french guy gave us the G35C and 370Z, even if i had to swap out the HU and some other things on it. i dont mind at all.

I feel you to a point but, 2013 refresh money could have went to better things. Also, fixing the oil cooling issue in 09.5 would have kept sales more steady. I think half the enthusiast market scaled off on the 370z based off the C&D shyt. What happened to the Z34 was a double edged sword. But a car with a legacy like this... I'd rather raise the price of all nissan models $200
to protect the name, reputation and heritage of the 370z.
I love my car as well. have had to tweak where the car lacked. But with the level of competition that suddenly smacked mustang, Z, Vette and 3 series in 2008. They had to be on point with SOME of the complaints. There were a lot of BS complaints. Like NVH and ride comfort... Yeah ok. Nissan attempted to address that instead of oil cooling. SLF etc... By the time they got around to oil cooling. Rep was already imprinted in the word market. Sales continue declining.

As far as hyundai. I would say they are 35/65 on the target market. Gencoupe forum is loaded with modders and tuners doing there thing. The hyundai is much more accessible to people so the market is more mixed. The Z attracts more driving enthusiasts more than tuners. I guess that's where they tried to market the Z. Problem with that though. The looks of the Z screamed tuner.

Z is still an awesome car. Downside is that it currently is not competitive. it's too neutral in an aggressive enthusiast market.

I keep positive thoughts for the Z35. If it can improve and smooth out the Z34? That would be awesome. The
Montez and DEpointfive0 like this.
