Perhaps Nissan could follow the Genesis coupe model and make 2 different trims. Or even better idea, they should base it off the Sports Compact car trend. (BMW 328, 335, M3, IS250, IS350, IS-F) Nissan could have a 240Z T, 400Z, Nismo 400Z TT. Muhahaha

Not if they were 2400 lbs and 2000 lbs, 240 or 150 would work then. Although the days of 2000 lb cars are pretty much gone with all the safety stuff they need now.

but lets be real Mike. a 240hp 2400lb z is not going to happen. it would be 3k Lb's minimum with the smaller one not far behind it.

Not really sure why they couldn't get it down that low on the curb weight. I mean my POS civic has airbags and safety devices and its curb weight is just over 2200lb not to mention the fr-s which is around 2700lb so I don't see a reason why they couldn't get the weight down to those levels with the z....just remember there is always a way of getting anything done

How about the Juke's awd and 1.6L DI turbo four producing ~200 hp in a sub-2500 lbs slimmed down Sentra B17 (2013) shell?

Personally, if Nissan wants to hit the market right, they will use a larger motor, and not worry about having it tuned super high, aka nothing like a 1.6 turbo already maxed. They should recognize that this car would have to be a hit with the tuner market and thus they need a platform with room to grow.

Heck a updated variation of their 2.5L would be great actually.

Just like toyota relived its infamous AE86 with the FRS, nissan should revive the Silvia/240, in a RWD turbo version. Im sure sales would be killer. Id buy one lol

Argument is debate FYI. It's discussing two different points of views. Whether it involves slinging $hit or an actual constructive argument is in the hands of the parties involved

Juke is 2900-3000 and its an SUV of sorts, BRZ is 2600-2800, 2600 is very doable, and 2400 isn't that far off. The future is in lighter weight and smaller, more efficient engines. The current administration is forcing it down our throats with CAFE. But, lighter cars aren't a bad thing.

If you think about it they dont need to do much to compete with a vette mechanically.

- Rear mounted transmission for weight distribution
- Either a turbo VQ or the 5.6 L v8
- Lower center of gravity

This can be done at the base vette price point however the new Stingray vette will be VERY hard to beat considering all the technology they are putting in that thing! 450HP/450lbs/ft and 30 mpg highway...Not to mention the suspension O_o

Sorry havnt read all the posts, but this mini z isn't going to be fwd is it? I see people saying yes and some saying no.. Surely Nissan wouldn't be that idiotic right?
And a Juke platform? Was the Juke's chassis really made for Motorsport? Or were they talking about the Juke's drivetrain or engine? I think anything from the Juke would be a mistake. FWD hell no. AWD on such a small manageable amount of hp is extremely unneeded and would just add silly weight. A tiny turbo engine with high compression maxed out like daisuke said would be a big mistake.

I hope I'm very confused and that Nissan won't use anything from the juke at all.
Edit: not that the juke is a bad car. But c'mon, it's not a sports car in anyway. Neither is the juke r.

I doubt a smaller Nissan sport coupe will be FWD - they have the Altima coupe for that and the Juke. It makes no business sense to have that many sporty FWD compacts. The market and press has reacted to a small RWD car.

-Just because the platform may be a Juke platform doesn't mean the car will be FWD.

-A lot of platforms can use transverse and longitudinal layouts for the exact same car. FWD Audi A4 is transverse. Quattro AWD makes it longitudinal. Same goes for other FWD and AWD Audis.

-Juke platform had an entire GTR drivetrain swapped in. They have the entire blueprint for a 540HP VR38 swap. What makes you think a tiny little turbo-4 based on the VR38 sending power to the rear wouldn't be easily feasible? It just goes to show how well made the Juke platform is that a small crew of guys to modify it and drop all of the GTR's oversized bits and pieces.
