Check out Allstate as well. I have very low rates with them and never any problems.

StateFarm is a joke. They were bought by an Indian company after the almost went bankrupt over Katrina most of the people they insured they denied claims. If they did pay they dumped the customer or raised the rates so high no one could afford. Then they were bought out by an Indian company.
They fired all the American workers and brought in foreign workers made them teach the people replacing them there job or be fired with no package for 3 months. The foreign workers are from India and work at low wages and can be replaced easily. All workers at StateFarm are Indian. The are ripe for illegal hiring practices. Stay way clear of StateFarm they will deny claims and or just refuse to pay you when incidents happen like Katrina, Ike, Sandy.

I know first hand many people that worked at StateFarm this is the information along with news reports that I have been informed about and my step mother works for another insurance company and she hears all the stories from other people that have left StateFarm and moved over to her company.

If you have StateFarm I would check out a known reputable company and lose them before they deny you or drop you for some made up B.S.

Me I have had the same policy since 1982 with Allstate and never any problems with being dropped. I have had tickets, wrecks, boat and house repairs due to damage. They did not raise my rates or drop me. When Katrina, Ike and they rest you did not hear them denying claims and dropping people for no reason.

May be true, they totaled my car 12 months ago and they paid me $7k over what I paid for it after I used it for a year too...

And Allstate quoted me $300/month for just my Z

State Farm bought by an Indian company? You work for Allstate?

I've been with State Farm for 10 years. I've had multiple claims (non of them my fault) and I've never had a single issue. They've always been prompt and fair with me. Not to mention, they're much cheaper than most other companies here. And by the way... I live in south Louisiana.

Oh and since I guess you didn't look, Allstate has a 78% disapproval rating on the site you posted a link to. How much extra are you paying for the 2% extra approval?

Since the pages are headed "Consumer Complaints & Reviews", I'm a bit surprised that the disapproval ratings for both companies aren't closer to 100%.

From what I have heard from friends and acquaintances that use Allstate, it is a good company. It has it's problems, like every other insurer has, but most of what I hear is good. If I ever need to leave State Farm, Allstate is one of the first I will check out.

Most insurance companies are easy to deal with on simple small one time claims, the issues come in when there are major losses or injuries envoled.

Or when things are questionable, this is the time when you need to bring in an attorney.

A friend I know had his out board motor stolen off a fishing boat in only 5 minutes while at a fast food joint and the insurance company denied the claim as it sounded fishy to them, but it was a valid claim. My friend didn't bother using an attorney and just wrote it off. But it taken to court they would have to pay up.

You will find this tactic used during muliple fault auto claims and during a lot of home damage claims, to deny them or stone wall the client.

A 2007 investigation by CNN reported that major car insurance companies, including State Farm and Allstate Insurance, are increasingly fighting claims from those injured by their insured members. In some cases, the settlement proposed amounts to just $50 or the threat that any lawsuit would be made so expensive and time-consuming that it would not be worth the victim's time. State Farm and Allstate have denied these allegations.[14] This followed on the heels of criminal investigations by the states of Louisiana and Mississippi, which found that State Farm had wrongly denied claims stemming from Hurricane Katrina.[15] Richard F "Dickie" Scruggs pleaded guilty in March for his role in trying to pay Judge Henry Lackey of Mississippi a $50,000 bribe for a favorable ruling in a dispute involving a $26.5 million settlement after Hurricane Katrina.[16]
