Source: I own a well-sorted RWD and an AWD.

Note: I am not dogging the Z, so please don't try to read something that isn't there.

It's also one of the best performing cars you can buy in the $23K range.

Well suck in comparison to the V8 model or the Z. Sure for the price its a good buy but 323hp in a 3780lbs car doesnt turn me on. The SS is in the same price range as a Z and is 426hp in a 3860lbs car. It has more hp but also about 500lbs over the Z so I feel like its a better run as I wont even consider a base camaro if he revs at me. (which they do a lot)

Same thing for the mustang V6 which is 305hp in a 3501lbs car. In order to push a chassis that heavy you need some power imo.

They go pretty well and can run 12s with bolt ons. They really wake up when you tune them for 93.

(I'm taking about the V6 Mustang... I know nothing about the V6 Camaro)

I can't speak for the Camaro, but the V6 stang moves pretty good. Track times are nothing to sneeze at, and it does well around on AutoX course.

When you consider they are going for ~50% less than the Z it makes it pretty hard to draw any sort of meaningful comparison between the two. I mean heck, a sport package Z stickers north of 35K these days. The new V6 stang sits in a price range lower than the base WRX, alongside cars like the Civic SI. You wind up with the V6 variants positioned against the Z the way the Z is positioned against the Cayman...would you rather have the nice one...or two of the cheap ones?

No matter how hard you try to sell it, it's still the crappier mustang of the bunch (v6). Which with mustangs is saying a lot. I think it'll take another good generation or two before that car finally starts losing the hate and the ford zealot fact checkers get their retribution.

Also didn't realize this thread was about mustangs...

For the price of a v6 Camaro or Mustang I'd rather get an FR-S. Yes the straight line speed is no where near the Chevy or Stang but:

1 - FR-S turns more heads
2 - It is a way better initial tuning platform with a very strong and growing aftermarket
3 - it was designed to be a driver's car not an entry level car that leaves a lot on the table
4 - Willing to bet that the manual gearbox in an FR-S > v6 camaro, mustang and the Z

I would probably choose the FRS/BRZ over the V6 Mustang/Camaro as well. But then again I have an S2000 (and you have the Lotus). Not everyone is willing to drive a tiny car.

Agreed on the s2000/frs/brz front. Every summer I get so close to just impulse buying a used s2000 convertible.

I think there is some truth to that. However, it is changing with the "one car" initiative at Ford. The new Focus is a good example of that.

You should buy an S2K, btw. It's good for the soul.

Barring any major cockups they'll definitely get there.

You're right, driving little cars does have its disadvantages. I'm sure you can agree though the driving experience more than makes up for it. It is still a pain in the *** to throw my luggage in my friends' cars while we all drive to the same destination haha.

You've definitely got it worse as far as space goes. The S2K can work as a DD... the trunk is actually spacious enough for a weekend getaway for two.

Then again, the S2K is a pig compared to your Lotus.
