What did you do with your Z today V (ON TOPIC DISCUSSION ONLY)

My Z is getting rained on but before it started I was able to use some Rain-X on my windows to clean them off and prepare for the coming storm

Thanks Waizzz! I'm pretty much done with the CF touches on the car. I do not want to over do it. Next up, I need to paint those door handles PW. Got to go with Triple's advise.

Fixed my "broken" and by broken I really mean mysteriously illuminated brake/abs/VDC/traction control lights, by topping off by brake fluid.

The brake fluid level was way above "min" so of course I first hit the performance shop to waste time checking ABS sensors and codes. lol.

I always forget to troubleshoot the easy stuff first.

Anyhow my new helical gear LSD is giving me a significant boost in my Smiles per gallon. (The OEM sport VLSD doesn't even come close and incidentally is now for sale if anybody wants to upgrade from stock.)



Ill have to find out how to post for sale items soon!

I have a GREAT speedshop nearby (MAC Autosports in Denver) that installed and filled with fluid for $400

I posted some pics and details here on my build thread

I do not recommend this as a DIY. if you can find a good race shop they will probably do better than the local AAMCO or generic tranny shop for an install. Getting your shims right in order to set proper gear spacing is a bit of an art. Ask you installer if he is familiar with this install.

I drove the 370z to my new job today. I'm a new home builder and the Z doesn't do well on the construction site so I picked up a 2008 Titan crew cab SE 4x2 after work tonight

Can someone explain what benefit you get out of upgrading the LSD on this car? My understanding was always that hi-torque LSDs were for offroad/rally vehicles.

Puts power to the ground more efficiently by reducing wheel spin by doing 50/50 power into the rear wheels instead of 100% into the lower resistant tire. When both tires spin equally, each tire only needs half as much traction to push the car forward where as if you have a peg leg (non lsd) then 1 tire takes on the job of pushing the car 100%. For even aggressive street driving, you are able to power through and push out of corners sooner as you have more traction. For tracking, its a must.

Oh yeah, I drilled wholes in my rear trim plastic pieces so I could adjust my damper on my coilovers more easily today. I will still be cleaning them up a little bit more but I figured it would be easier this way for Autox so between runs I can hop out, adjust, and hop back in and run again

I guess that makes sense for track racing. In a straight drag your car's wheels shouldn't be leaving the ground at any point. Thanks for the explanation. I will add this to the list of things I kinda want but probably can do without like a big oil cooler.

You have the nismo so you have the VLSD but most people say that it can be kind of inconsistent. Think about it this way. Grab 2 10lb weights and lift them with 1 in each hand (with LSD). Now put both weights in 1 hand and lift. (without). Drag racing, if both wheels spin equally, technically you have better traction for straight line launch.

Most of the nismo perks are garbage. I like the upgraded sways and ultra stiff suspension (despite what DE5.0 will tell you) and the body kit. That said, I probably need to spend another $2300 on coils just for street driving on top of the other junk I have planned.

If I had it to do over again, I'd probably get a sport and upgrade it but I don't regret the purchase. It just ended up costing more than I would have liked

I was wondering about the VLSD if it had issues or not.

I haven't played around enough to really notice one way or the other.

Our VLSD only works well when the diff oil is cold. Once you start driving its acts more and more like an open diff. I really fell a big difference with my LSD from Quaife. (Helical gear type not clutch type which is more for track use.)

Our VLSD is crap in snow and poor in big powered up turns and no good for drifting and power sliding (unpredictable when it lets go)

In other words the OEM VLSD is crap.
