The "miles remaining" can't be trusted either, as it seems to take an average, based on how you're driving. I can make it drop 5-10 miles, let off and cruise for a bit and it jumps back up. It's just guesstimating the remaining mileage really. I fill up at about 2-3 dots, as I know that won't get me to and/or from work (30mi).
