I need to be able to convince my parents that 370z is a good choice over the Toyota Avalon, Lexus IS, Mercedes C-Class, and BMW 328i.

These vehicles are within the 30 to 40 grand range so there shouldn't be any price issues. I'll be test driving each vehicle.

Any ideas?
The 370Z would not be my first choice for a new driver. Drive another car for a year and then reconsider the Z.

I understand your concern but what my parents can afford is none of your business.

@Kaien I thank you for the long term test results.

Now I'll see what vehicle I do get. If I do get a Z, I'll post back.

But really, all these negative comments are not needed.

Also, I am confident enough of my driving skills and it's not like I'm going to be driving a Z within a month or so anyway, no worries.

2009 Nissan 370Z Touring: 6858 miles/20 observed mpg.

Forums are like strip clubs man...you got the hot ones...and the ugly ones. Having negative comments are just the nature of the beast. We just need to be smart enough to sift through the garbage and take it with a grain of salt.

I don't know you from anyone else on this forum...but a 370 seems like a bit too much car for someone who just got their license and is inexperienced behind the wheel. Though none of us are your parents and it's not our business what car you decide to get...we are allowed to give our opinions or "advice" as you requested.

Good luck with whatever you choose and welcome to the forum!

I was 19 when I got my Z. I know you say you will be responsible right when you get your license, but I find myself doing stupid things with it all of the time. I drove a 150 hp four banger for three years and still got a speeding ticket with it. When people say get a cheaper, slower car for experience and then get a nicer car, they don't say it without reason. It isn't what you can afford, it's about what you can handle.

The real question is how are your parents going to feel when you wreck it? I am willing to bet about 99% of the people on this forum and in general wrecked their first vehicle. Either from doing something stupid or some random driver's fault. The inexperience of a new driver opens the door to turning a minor situation that is avoided by more experienced drivers into a collision that totals the car. Just my .02.

I had an EVO as my first car... got a few tickets but not one accident. Guys being I am still a fairly young Z owner, everyone is different and some people can actually handle the responsibility of having a fast first car. If I had my pick between those rides I would take the Z if you dont need a back seat! Good luck and keep it safe

My advice would be you need to drive something slower and learn to drive before you get something fast. Everyone I've know to start with a fast car has wrecked it, some have died in them. Do yourself a favor and start with a 4 banger and work your way up. If you must have a new car, the FRS and BRZ would be the fastest car you should be considering. They're probably still too fast as a first car. Why don't you start with an old 240SX where you won't feel so bad when you plant it in the side of a mountain. Then you can sell your parents on "I've learned my lesson, now I should get a really fast car"

Ya! he actually said that..I am not kidding..

Years later he is employed in sales..is it any wonder?

I can find plenty of examples of "adults" crashing their cars and injuring/killing people. No one likes stereo types, and some kids CAN handle the responsibility. Hell, I got my pilots license at 18, if they let kids FLY they can handle a entry level sports car. If they are going to do something stupid, it could happen in a dae-woo or a Z... IMO

Took me till about 25, but yeah, I still drive like an idiot occasionally. I'm just a lot more picky about where I do it. Had 3 4-bangers before I got my first fast car, a supped up 1971 240z. I was about 22 at that time. Only Z I knew without a cracked dash!
