The 370's steering feels heavy by comparison. The lack of power and torque really put a damper on an otherwise great car. I see them racing the RX-8's on the Rolex Sports Car series and makes me wonder what could have been had they used the 20B like in the race cars.
Exactly everything you said. I take it back the the 8 felt MUCH better at handling than the Z, but I still stand by my statement that it's the best handling car out of the 5 sports cars i've owned.

It was definitely for the people who cared more about how much fun you had during the trip rather than how fast you got there.

Either way there's no point about arguing over a car that is no longer in production i'm just saying that maybe this FR-S is similar to the 8 but maybe even better since its using a traditional engine rather than a wankel.

PS. there's nothing like revving to 10k in the rx8

It was a lot smaller than I thought in person compared to pics. The Z is fine for me but I'm certain my head would hit the brz roof and I'd be quite uncomfortable in it. The rear seats are a joke, obviously. Also, some of the exterior styling is quite ugly and really cheapens the look of the car (like the sharp angled front signal lights, fender vents, or the yellow turn signal right above the front wheel well). Feels like they copied from one too many other cars and mashed them all up (the rx-8, bmws, our Zs).

However.. for the price, especially if I was still in high school and my tastes were a bit less refined.. I would probably be in love with the brz. Anyway, my friend ended up leaving Subaru with the intention of buying an sti instead

The sales guys were classic though. It seems the Subarus around here are trying to create the illusion the brz is super exclusive and rare, so we were told right away they only had 3 brzs on the lot but they were all sold already, so we could look at them from outside, but not inside. Also, if we ordered one that day, we probably wouldn't even get it until JANUARY.. it's that sought after. The best part was when I asked when they'd have one for test drive the guy goes "TEST DRIVE?!? HAH! THERE ARE NO TEST DRIVES! We can't even keep 1 unsold, let alone have one for demo!" I was like "umm so everyone that buys the brz just walks in and pays for it without driving it first?" and he goes, "yeah.. because people that really KNOW cars.. people that buy the brz.. they know. They just know. No one needs a test drive. If you really want a test drive, you can get one at Scion.. they'll have tonnes of fr-s around for test drive. Just know the experience will be inferior to the brz." at which point another salesman leans over and says, "It's true.. people don't request test drives for the brz since everywhere you look the car is just being raved over and it's known fact at this point the ride is just perfect."

I phoned up about it a month or so ago, they said there's a 6K mark-up. It is cheaper to buy a Z as of right now (2009-2012, not 2013 as those have a mark-up also...)

PS:

salesmen are tossers (no offense to anyone on here who is / used-to be one) but I end up feeling like **** every-time I walk out of a dealership.

FWIW, the BRZ and FR-S are actually not exactly the same mechanically -- they each have different suspension set-ups. The BRZ is alleged to be firmer whereas the FR-S is set up to have more body roll and over steer dialed in.

Otherwise, the difference is cosmetic or related to amenities.

Should you trade in your Z for one?

Ask yourself if you would consider trading in for a Miata. If the answer is "yes", then yes, because the FR-S/BRZ is as good -- if not better (and more practical) -- than the current gen MX-5

If you said "no", wait to see if a factory boosted option (e.g., the Gazoo twincharged prototype) becomes available. Then we'll have a good alternative to the Z at the same price point.

Just because it is easier to do it in one car, doesn't mean you should assume the other two are less capable. Instead i'd look at it as an opportunity for becoming a better driver and being able to do that in all 3

Sorry I guess that statement came out wrong. I never said it was impossible to do it in the other 2 cars, its just, the rx8 took those turns so naturally, that you literally felt in control 100% of the time.

With the Z and the s2k, the cars felt very wild, kind of hard to describe (im no professional driver or anything)

I guess its something that I can't describe in words sorry

I was a toyota guy for a long, long time prior to purchasing my 370z.

The 370z and BRZ/FR-S are not even in the same class.
I wouldnt even consider WRX/EVO with BRZ/FR-S to be in the same class.

The BRZ/FR-S's main compeditor is the RX8, Hyundia Genesis coupe, and whatever 4cylinder naturally aspirated cars are out there. I'd even peg it with a VW GTI, cause the GTI's are around 200HP still even with a turbo.

Believe it or not, I was actually going to buy a FR-S. That was until I seen the weight to power ration and the fact that Toyota would only release it under the Scion brand in the USA. Then I thought hey I will get the BRZ. But then I thought, do I really want to dump about $30K into a Subaru BRZ, that some stupid kid about 17 years old is driving with a Scion badge on it? Not to mention, that it is rare to see 370z's as it is, and you will see a whole slew of scion's on the road in the next few months.

If they atleast turbo charged that engine on the Subaru side. I would be all for it and would even be on this forum. But I believe I made a wise decision in getting the 370z, because it has continious years of inspiration and devolopement. The GT800's that were sold have gaps in the years of productions. Toyota and Subaru did spend a great deal of R&D, money and time into every aspect of this car.

Now, if Toyota comes back out with a straight 6 turbo'd supra. You will see the 370z go bye bye.

As far as Im concerned, stock vs stock. BRZ/FR-S is no where near the 370z, or any 6 cylinder sport car.

That supra is a nice car... experiencing an inline 6 TT without getting a BMW, here's hoping that happens at some point.
