Default Anyone else not too impressed?

I've had my Z for about two months now and am just getting around to pushing it a bit after break in. My wife and I took a nice back roads ~200mi trip yesterday. I have to admit that I'm just not impressed at this car's acceleration. Honestly, getting up to 80mph or so under hard acceleration feels like my 240sx. I know these are not a straight line speed kind of car, but I am still expecting some put you in the back of the seat feeling. Anyone else feel this way?

It's deceptively quick. Power delivery is very linear. There isn't really much in the way of that pin you back in the seat "thrust" feeling. But it's fast. Just watch the needle.

This car is very stable, relatively heavy, and it is easy to get up to speed while not feeling it a whole lot. The car also has relatively low torque for the horsepower. You're through break-in, have you revved her past 5k?

Plus, find some corners to come out of, it should brighten your day.

I know what the OP is talking about, and I was experiencing a little of this about a month or so after getting it.

Low end can definitely lack, but you keep the revs above 4500 and you'll have a smile on your face. But like it's already been said, keep your eye on the needle. It doesn't always feel like you're going fast, but you are.

The linearity of the power delivery means you are never going to get the pinned-to-the-seat feeling you are talking about, the power comes on smooth and is relatively constant.

At the risk of sounding like a "troller", do you really think you made the correct decision to buy a 370?

Just ask'n.

Ive always been impressed by z cars from tge early 240 to prezent. Its not a 6 liter hemi..... so i dont think you will get pinned to the seat. Price to power to weight ration i dont think there is too much in its class. Its borderline euro sport imo. Do an honest 0-60 or 0-100 test and i think you will see.... plus your not going to get a 500 whp car for under 40k... no once not never. Its definitely a track car and not a drag car. Always has been. ;-)

I drive a high horsepower V-8 and also have had many Z cars...300ZX, 350Z and now the 370Z.

The V-8's always give you torque and power down low in the RPM range, and just"pulls" you to redline.

The 300ZX and the 350Z were more in the mid range to top RPM for the fun factor, and for the feeling of a rush.

The 370Z feels slower due to the linear power band that most talk about, but yes, let it rev past 5000Rpm, and man it will feel so much better..

4 cylinders always need to rev high to make power, and the 6 cylinders also need to be revved to make power...The less cylinders, the higher you need to rev.

but the 370Z if kept in the power band, and through some turns, is a blast.

Punch it off the line and let off at 5000rpm, and it will not feel fast at all..

I think you might be in the wrong gear when accelerating, if you're looking for the pinned back feel you need to be above 4500rpm. I'll agree that low down in the rpms you won't get thrown back, but if you drive the car correctly it should keep you well planted to your seat.

I guess you bought the wrong car!
Nedlesss to say the 370Z is NO 240SX.

It might not be a muscle car but the Z will get into the 80s in no time.

I felt that in the beginning of the break-in period going past 4T Rpm the engine is screaming as hell and the sound of sheering metal is pain in the ear.
But once I reached 3T miles the engine became much smoother. Torque has started to kick in at 4T rpm...going to 6T rpm was starting to ease up a bit and I tell you this car is like a Bullet Train!!!
220km/hr(140miles/hr) is just a breeze!
You will LOVE it as you go along I promise you.
