I'm not sure what your situation is...

will back seats be something you want?

Are you an audiophile"

Are you going to mod?

What's most important to you from your driving experience?

You are talking numbers and times as a means to choosing your car? Are you a professional racer?
Do you make money from doing quarter mile runs that 10ths of a second are that important???

The Z is a much better car imho but the hyundai is very good too...
Don't let the 348hp fool you. Between the 2 cars the 274hp turbo gen will probably be the best buy on that side. The list of reasons why is too long to list. If you are considering a 3.8 na v6? I would just spend the cash and get a certified pre-owned G. Performance may match but your interior will be sooooo far ahead in quality you will laugh at the gen.
When you buy a 2.0 you are buying the realistic value of a gen. Mid 20's for a 274hp 275lb tq car that can be easily modified to 400hp with an auto transmission directly from a 430hp v8 genesis rspec. Or a newly revamped manual. The 2.0 weight is the equivalent to a Z and hyundai has most likelt fixed the old 2.0 flaws.

Going back to the Z. The Z is faster than any other "affordable"NA v6 and will most likely remain that way even after hyundai gets there 348hp on the street. The Z has a much higher mod potential buut... that mod potential is going to cost a pretty penny. Turbo is the best way to go on the Z and that's about a 15k investment once all is said and done. Handling the Z is far superior than the hyundai and even with the new tweaks... I doubt its long wheebase can change that.

Its your choice... but I would test drive both and throw the Scion FR-S and 2013 mustang GT. If you can afford about 10k extra to the Z. Go mustang BOSS 302. V8's are inherintly cheaper to mod and you get huge HP gains from simple mods.

the 370 is lighter and has MUCH better suspension geometry(SLA wishbone Vs Mac strut) and chassis design. So the Z will handle better and have higher potential for better handling with modification, and has to support less weight. but still drive both and see what you like. even with the new power figure, i still dont think it will be much, if any faster then a 370 power to weight ration wise

One more car to seriously check out... the EVO. I drove an evo on a TIGHT 360 degree donut highway exit at 75mph. Can't do that in my Z. 60mph is all I can do on a donut on a stock Z. And I'm basically drifting at that point... the EVO can manage that feat while planted.
But the Z still wins in my book in overall quality.

A used ipl is also a better car to cross shop... check it out. Sub 43k pricing on lightly used ipl's. Ipl's go for about 50-52k before TTL AND FEES.

My buddy just got a Gen Coupe. He seems to like it, but I don't see the car giving him the allure my Z gives me at all. I still get chills driving my car after owning it a year. Something that made me feel kinda bad is when he threw a party the same day he got the car. Friends that were invited over expecting to see his new ride kept pointing mine out saying "Is that it? It's bad ***!" and he would laugh each time and say "No! The Hyundai!"

I see Genesis Coupes around a lot more, so they're fairly common. Not saying the 370z is super rare, but it definitely turns heads enough. I got a nod from a guy in an R8 once, and another time was told by a cop he thought my car was a Porsche (just passing conversation, I wasn't in trouble yet haha).

Maybe I'm being a bit sensationalist about it, but the car is just so damn awesome.

The one thing about the Genesis that appealed to me was the interior. It has a real eye catching style. The 370z interior is pretty bitchin too though.

I mean, you *are* asking in a 370z enthusiast community, so these answers are going to naturally be biased. If you're really that torn then you should test drive both.

The very first reply to your question said it best imo. Nissan has been designing sports cars for almost half a century, Hyundai is *just* emerging from the "budget" car manufacturer.

Thank you all! I am leaning more towards the Z. Somebody asked me about a Roadster...the thing is, I do not like it. It does not look as sleek as the regular coupe. Since I am in not in a hurry, I think I will wait a couple of more weeks and see if we see any performance reports of the new Gen Coupe. As of now, I am 70% Z!

Another question for you guys! A local dealer has offered me a 2012 base with sport package for $34,821+TTL. Do you think I could do better? Actually, they have offered me three options:

1. 2012 Base - $31,693+TTL
2. 2012 Base w/sport package - $34,821+TTL
3. 2012 Touring - 35,562+TTL

I am leaning more towards the 2nd option. Can I do better? Should I choose a different option?

Yup, base + sport will make you a happy Z owner! I picked up Sport + Touring and I'm super happy with it!

I bought my 2011 base w/sport package that stickered around the same for 30,904. I think you can do better than that on pricing. Sounds like you are paying sticker? If so get a better price or different dealership. Most likely since it is Feb of 2012 this dealership is less likely to work on a better price. Be prepaired to walk and look around some more.

You can do much better in pricing. Back in 2009 when the 370z was brand spanking new I ordered my touring/sport yellow manual for 34300+TTL. At the end of 2010 when searching for a replacement of my now totaled 370z. I bough my 2010 Nismo for 35500+TTL (they had the car stickered at 45k due to tint, window etching, etc). You need to search around and be patient.

As long as you don't live in Tx,La,Ok,NM,Tn you can get good deals easily. In these states you need to fight, hustle, talk to 5 different dealerships and make them fight for your sale. 3 will reject you cuz they will think that they can get the next sucker... and the last 2 remaining will make it a murderous process and stress you out till you finally come to terms on a fairly good deal. The rest of the country gives Z's away. Lol.

Why would you pay more in those states? Just curious as I live in TN.

Well we can add Kansas City, KS & MO to the list of hard to getting good deal locally. I tried for 2.5 weeks and just walked away. I finally gave up and bought my car in Chicago area. To be exact Lagrange, IL. An hour and ten minute flight one way and signed papers and drove home.
