OK -- so I went back to the dealership today to pick up my Z and bring it home to reast while awaiting the part. Like promised, they jerry-rigged a module from an Altima so the car is drivable but the key light is on. I am still not going to drive it until I take it back for the repair.

I cannot speak highly enough about the level of service that Maita Nissan of Sacramento has provided during this issue. They let me take the Z home so that it did not have to sit there for three weeks and they are letting me keep the loaner car while we wait. BTW: it is a sweet 2012 Versa. I promised I would not take ot to the track.

In the attachments below, you will find the low-res Droid shots of the failed module that I was able to take this morning. If anyone knows how to identify the rev level, please let me know.

Thanks again for all the support -- this kind of stuff usually puts me in Spazz Mode but I am amazingly calm about it.

mr.onzedge- thanks for taking that pict! that confirms RevC might be bad as well. not sure if this was an isolated incident or not. ive not read about GTR's going back for repeated steering lock failure... hummm..

i have that revision in my car right now. i guess im glad i used regular metric screws cause i can swap it back in the field if it goes bad. lol :D

how many miles on your car? :)

wow, that's a lot of miles, mr.onzedge!

you have definitely beat the RevA/RevB working life of typical 20K max. :D hahaha. hope you get your RevD soon.

thing about this lock is these are made in germany (probably by TRW) and there's nothing less convincing than letting the germans make electronic parts. :ugh2: some will work great, some will fail. no consistency.

I figure that the whole point of having it is to drive it.

I have, therefore I drive.

sh!t. Germans and car electronics is a match made in hell. We're probably lucky they're not catching fire or something.

Regarding steering lock failures. Cold weather may be a cause to the failures. Has anyone polled failed users what time of the season they failed?

IIRC: the failed Rev C member, had his fail on a day when the temps did not get higher than 40-49 degrees.

Both Z's are 2009 models and both have about 35k miles on them.

My Z: mfg date 01/09
Part # JF00B-B1-01
35k mi

The bros Z": mfg date 10/08
Part # JF00A-B1-01
35k mi

No failure yet, fingers crossed.

ZForce 01-22-2012 12:06 PM

Nice gurneyeagle on the powder coat. daemnon1957, LEDs look good.

No Z action today. Armchair all day in front of T.V. Go 49's and Go Pats!

My failure was the C revision and it was in the 50's the day it failed. I doubt weather has anything to do with it, but who knows.

Most certainly:tup: I take it you will be rooting for the 49ers Mr onzedge. I on the other hand will be pulling for the G-MEN!!!!! The furnace situation has me annoyed. I just payed off the house at the begining of the month and was hoping to be able to start saving some cash. I hope the fix is cheap or its gonna cut into the Z money I currently have saved. My Yellows are in danger.

Thanks to all of the great info on this forum, I was able to get them off pretty easy. I soaked them in WD40 and heated them up to loosen the loctite. Once I did that they came off pretty easy. Still had to ratchet them carefully but they came right off.

Yes he did, but as Alchemy said, he just disappeared afterward, he told me in one of the PM saying that he was extremely busy with work.

Finally go with Vossen, I can't find a Mash-Convave style with the size I want, both Avant Garde and Vertini have the style I like but the width for the rear has to be 11, which is too wide for me.

And this Vossen looks pretty good on a Z roadster, mine is white, so I will go for the matte-silver with F19X8.5 and R19X10, pair with Continental ExtremeContact DW. It's my DD in Summer, I think it is a decent setup.

Skeeterbop 01-22-2012 06:18 PM

Thanks for all the props on the photos. I gotta give credit for the ideas on how to position them to Darionlear. I just had to get the photos exposed properly lol.

Congrats on the new wheels alcheng!

Great pictures Skeeter! I just washed the Z, cleaned the exhaust and dressed the tires but I am cringing at the weather forecast for rain tomorrow. At least it'll rain on a clean car!

kenchan 01-22-2012 08:05 PM

yep, rain on a clean car is definitely more healthy than rain on dirty car. much less contaminant bondage after the rain dries and sun beats on the paint. :)

cleaned up the DIY steering lock a little bit as it was getting ikky... :D
