i get stares, and the cops who lurk somewhere by my rear quarter panel waiting for me to start speeding. too bad i just putter along all the time, with judicious use of cruise control

it was really, REALLY funny though one time, off a stop light, i put the Z into 1st and started real slowly, the prius next to me just LURCHES forward and starts 'hauling ***' as fast as a hybrid can possible go. next light was red, and less than three blocks away, i looked over and the driver was nodding 'yeaaaaa' or something. i just laughed.

So his prius could go twice the speed of slow!? That's amazing! I'd be proud too.

I was doing 25. Jacka**.
I've had this "perception of speed" thing before too. Was in the (indoor, multi-story) parking lot of an apartment complex I used to live in. The speed limit in that thing is 10 mph. Most idiots lap it at 20-25 while yapping on cellphones, which has led to a few fender-benders but luckily no human contact that I've heard of. I always roll through there at 5-10 mph.

There were two older women walking through there one day and I had my windows down, and they decided to start yelling at me through my window about slowing down in the parking lot, because someone could get killed. I didn't know what to do but give them a WTF face and keep rolling. I guess sleek car + loud exhaust = must be moving fast in their tiny brains.

I hate them, all of them, every single Prius owner sucks at driving. Whenever I am on the highway I always stay far away from them, i dont know what it is but they always try and show off by accelerating really fast in one lane, like they are proving that just because their car is green doesnt mean its not fast. Get a life Prius owners, go stick ur head in mud............ok done ranting
I would replace Prius with angry man in SUV or Ford super duty haha. I get that crap all day on RT 1 going to work.

Cool

Here in San Diego the most that tries to race/overtake/or-being-a-plain-d0uch3 would be Corollas, Civics esp. hatchbacks, Prius, most 1 & 3 series BMW, Stangs and Vettes.

The neighborhood has elementary, middle and high schools so lots of kids are walking here and there.

On my street there is the entrance to a boardwalk designed to allow the little brats who live on the street to walk through the woods to the school. Of course, fat, lazy housewives all drop off and pick up there kids here instead of actually going to the school itself. Because of that I can barely get to and from my house in the hours this is happening (keep in mind it should not be happening at all)

The speed limit is 25 in the entire neighborhood. I rarely ever exceed it. I usually putt through the neighborhood going about 20.

Even so, I cannot count the number of times some self-important housewife spots my car and comes out in the road (next a row of street-blocking SUV's) and gives me the hand motions while mouthing "slow down" when I am not even speeding. I usually just give them the finger and keep my speed constant. occasionally i turn the music up too.

/\ ha! that's funny. Probably same douchebags that have the "I drive 25 in xxx" bumper stickers. (xxx is our neighborhood).

PS--my wife (juno) met you at our Mobile gas station back when we had our GTR and you were one of the first folks here to have a 370z.

So, howdy neighbor.

I guess what I'm trying to say is most of us are fortunate and we shouldn't take that for granted. Some people just don't realize most us worked hard to get to where we are.... and some people are just a**holes.
like

people also dont realize just how easy it is to find a job making at least 50K a year, even with no college. its not what you know its who you know. i personally have no college and i had a job paying $70K a year by the time i was 22. most people are just lazy and sit around wishing they had what somebody else has. its nobodys fault but their own.

Was the girl in high school too? j/k

Seriously though, I've noticed the same thing. Had a neighbor give me "advice" on spending too much $ for sports cars that are not reliable, burn too much gas and are not convenient. I appreciate him looking out for me, after all he's saving the world with his Prius and the fallout of destroying those batteries someday. He told me that at my age (mid-30's) I should settle down and get a 4-seater. I then grabbed my other keys, hopped in my S2000 and asked if I was doing things correctly now (after all...2 roadsters = 4 seats). He just walked away.
