His insurance is with State Farm along with his parents and siblings. Don't the insurance people usually ask who would be the main driver of the said car?
So say if he bought a 370Z and with his insurance, claim that his father would be the main driver, would his insurance rate be raised?
That is a fine approach until you get caught. Why not just be honest? There is too much deception in the world already.

I have USAA, but talked to Traveler's just for kicks because they have a deal through my credit union. They gave me a pretty good deal (~1100/year), but the customer service with USAA is awesome and it wasn't very much better than what I pay now. Unfortunately, there are so many factors that go into the quote that this probably wont help to much, but your description is pretty similar to me other than I am married (which helps lower the quote).

Yeah, USAA is competitive, but probably won't have the absolute best quote. The thing is with a lot of the other insurance providers is that you may get a lower quote, but when you actually get in an accident that's when you will pay (literally and figuratively)!

Call around some other places. That's on the high end, but not out of line, depending on your age. Being 20ish miles from DC doesn't help either.

How old are you?

Also, your story makes it sound like you don't have a pristine record.

it's a sports car, you're under 25 and you haven't had your own policy for more than 2-3 years = $$$. only thing that I loved about turning 25 was the massive drop in insurance.
