BTW, I'm surprise the stealership didn't give me $hit today for my mild mods. :ugh2: Quote:

I don't like Mustangs very much... but after playing with their build option on their site I must say I'm impressed. For the price of a fully loaded Z you can get a pretty evil Mustang. I'd rather have the Z or the Z28 though.
|
Flip it this way. How many times in a given day do you go from 0-60 wide open? And how many times a day do you go to the track???
And if both cars were sitting side by side and both came with electric engines and topped out at 70 mph. And you had to choose one which would it be. I'm going with the Z. For all the obvious reasons. My point being these articles are slanted. |
Honestly, I am really impressed by the new Mustang; however, I'd rather have the Z. Why? Having a nicer sports car - a car they make Hot Wheels model out of, a car they feature on racing video games - is all about having something that makes you go "wow" every time you look at it. I tune and build my own performance setups, but I need something more in a sports car than just being straight up fast - be it on the strip or on the circuit. I couldn't give 2 sh*ts what anybody else thinks, but the kicker for me is to have a car that impresses me every time I walk away from it. The bright blue Evo X does it for me, as does the 370Z; every single time - "damn, self, that's a beautiful piece of machinery."
I could have a new 5.0 and boy would I make it fast, but I'd never get that warm and fuzzy feeling about it, cause at the end of the day it's still just a budget-built Ford and it just lacks that certain bit of character and charisma that the 370Z and other cars have. Just my $0.02 USD. |
:stirthepot: Sorry to bust in and share my opinion, but...
I'd rather have a car I never(or rarely) see on the road and be "unique" then to be like every other "sports car fanatic" and drive a mustang. |
I agree with WarmandSCSI. I'm really impressed with the new 5.0's performance vs price. It's pretty ridiculous.
I'll be honest though, performance was relatively low on my list when I bought my 40th Anni Z. Looks would probably be the primary reason. It moves quick enough, but it looks great and I rarely see them. I've already seen more of the new Mustangs in the last two months than I have seen of Z's the entire time they've been out. |

:hello: hello sir, you sure look fast!

The Z was an amazing car to look at and very fun to drive. I always turned to look back as I walked away and it would put a smile on my face, but the driving experience was lacking for me. I missed the V8 torque I was used to and the power just wasn't there. The Mustang really does it for me. I love the look (it makes me smile just like the Z did) and the drive is exhilarating with the Brembo package. I really love it and am very happy with my decision. I was never unhappy with the Z, it just wasn't exactly what I was looking for. As you guys can tell, I'm still actively involved in the Z community. Once a Z owner, ALWAYS a Z owner as far as I'm concerned. I love the 370Z and hope to park a 370 roadster alongside the 5.0 in the future! We really need to just take a step back and realize that these are honestly two of the absolute BEST cars you can buy under $50,000 today. There is absolutely no doubt about it... the 370Z and the 5.0 are the best values and some of the outright best cars on the road today. I'm lucky to have spent time with both. |

Dude I'm a car guy first and a Mustang/Z guy second. Honestly I can't imagine how boring life would be if I blindly followed only one brand. I'm open to any and all cars... it's in my blood!
|
Never said I didn't like the new Mustang, I'm actually a fan of how it looks. However, it just doesn't do it for me. The stance is all wrong, there are too many of them already on the road, and they don't come in the right colors. live rear axle
I really would like to pick up a used GT500KR though. Mmmmmmmm |
A live axle is better than a dead axle!!! Heyyyyyooooh!

I think its reputation is the number 1 selling point of the mustang.
It is also its number 1 enemy in winning over NEW mustang customers. If the mustang 5.0 had hit the market as a "new from scratch" design, I doubt it would get NEARLY the amount of negativity towards it from the Nissan, GM, etc. crowd. |
so how would you guy's compare the 5.0 to C6?
really interested in your opinions.... |
I've driven several Mustangs over the past several years (er- decades), and they've never done much for me. I'd always think, "lots of noise, but no go", and it always felt like the car was driving you, not the other way around.
But the new 5.0 has been interested (again). That powertrain looks VEEERRYY nice! |
eehhh.. Why did I read this? Now this is making me feel like the Z is really slow and that the cheaper($$) and very ugly(IMHO) mustang is an all around better performer.
Makes me not want a Z anymore and Im now considering other options.. I sure have always adored the 03-04 terminator cobra.. One of my all time favorites. I may have to settle for that. :( Damn, I really love the 370z but I don't want to be losing to scrape of the barrel sports cars. |

So I bought the Automobile Magazine for this article. For those of you who didn't get to read whole thing, the comparison is 1 of 3 presented in the context of a "life crisis". Apparently, for those of you in your 20's you are supposed to deal with this quarter life crisis by getting a GTI (over a Civic Si). The Z/5.0 comparison is for people in their 30's and is entitled "Dad's night out". So, all you single/no kids Z and Mustang owners - please go impregnate someone.
(oh, and those of us in our 40's should be driving a C63AMG instead of an M3) |

If you are worried about getting beat by other cars then I think you're priorities are a little out of line. |
Someone said the Z is not fast. I just can't agree with that one.
Fast compared to what GTR,Z06 Corvette. For the extra 1 to 1.5 sec 0-60 times, it's just not worth the extra 20 to 30 grand. It's been beat like a dead mule on here but it's correct. Best bang for your buck is the Z.............. Plus most agree even not on this forum the Z just looks better then the stang.........sorry........... |
Actually, those cars are worth the extra money.
But really, the Z is NOT slow. I don't know why people seem to think that just because the Mustang beats it in the 1/4 mile. A sub-5 second 0-60 and a low 13 second 1/4 mile with a good driver is still faster than 99% of the cars you'll pull up next to at a stop light. People need to take a chill pill and quit worrying about being the absolute fastest car everywhere at all times. |
As far as the best bang for buck goes, my Mustang was cheaper than my similarly equipped Z, so I'd have to disagree there on an outright best value basis... but in the 2-seater sports car category, absolutely the Z is the best value around.

Agree those cars are worth the money if one so wants. I had a 97 c5 first year GM changed the body style and to me it was worth every penny. But it's not fair to compare the two on any level. |

Agree to disagree !! I'm just happy to drive one.:driving: |

I'm sure if I forced (at gunpoint) any of you guys to take my Mustang for a week you'd end up loving it. Whether you'd admit it or not, deep down inside you'd be smiling. :icon18: |
Yeah your right i would like to drive one for a week and see.
It's hard to beat a good american made muscle v8. |
If I had the money I would have stuffed a V8 in the 370. I doubt a Ford OHC V8 would fit but an LSX would. :D
