Sounds like good competition for a stock mustang GT.

Careful. If there is a cam to go with the exhaust, your goose is cooked. Cam and spray, deep in the 10's. Just a 150 shot makes a reliable 11 second car at 120+ from an LS1, and they have been around so long that hardly any of them are stock anymore.

m4a1mustang 10-11-2010 09:40 AM

Yeah, a cammed LSx is going to whoop up on a ton of ****.

When I had my 2003 GT I was afraid of LS1s.

When I had my 370Z I was afraid of LS1s.

Now that I have my 5.0, I'm STILL afraid of LS1s.

They are either 1) beaten to hell and run like shiite or 2) are well kept and modded to hell.

Damn you, GM. :icon18:

any car guy will know if a car is cammed, its EXTREMELY noticeable at idle, hes not cammed. And the 5.0 does tens with bolt ons/tune

i've posted this many a time, those that doubt the 5.0, realize that this car does 10's for less than 4 grand.

Where have you been? Any Z vs. [insert car here] thread turns into a nutswinging contest.

If you ask me, we should all buy Hyundai Genesis Coupes and marvel at our wonderous warranties. :icon17:

It's this magical idea of love and friendship that makes all your problems go away for 10-years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first.

I know of a lot of LS1's, and I know of a LOT of LS1's beaten to hell, but none of them were ever slow. POS's? Sure, but fast ones, lol. My LS1 put a lot of cars in their place that it had no business stomping.

I sold a 98 Z28 automatic with 114K miles on it when I worked at a dealership. Guy bolted DR's on and ran consistant 13.1's with it at the strip bone stock + a Flowmaster muffler (which loses hp over a stock muffler on an LS1).

Later, he dropped in a stall, cam, spray, and a built transmission he had laying around (he owned a shop) and was running consistant 10.30's@133mph. Had about $2500-3500+the trans invested.

He finally blew it up doing a wheel-stand on the street, oil starvation, spun main.

The article pretty much gives the trophy to the GT 5.0 over the Z. Those that think otherwise are hanging onto a single sentence in that entire article (the 'choosing the Z for the track' line). Personally though I prefer the look and lines of the Z than the retro nature of the Mustang. It's just my personality to like sleek and modern over retro and old-school.

Put the GT's driveline over the Z's suspension and slap the Z's wrapper around it and you would have perfection.

:iagree: i think you hit the hammer on the head with that one buddy, the Mustang doesnt inspire looks of excitement and wonder for sure, but its one hell of a platform.

I dunno, I love how it looks. The Z is very sleek and sexy and the Mustang is very rough and badass looking. I want both in my driveway!!!

370ZR sometime in the future...

Red370, any video clips of your Mustang? Your exhaust set up sounds like it would be nice and loud paired with a V8.

theres no way the 5.0 is full second faster than the 370Z down the 1/4...no way...i say half second but a full gtfo....sounds a little biast of a review

i think a full second is a bit much, the fastest 0-60 for the GT is 4.3 and the fastest 1/4 i've seen someone post that isnt a magazine is a 12.6. One thing I will say is this, when the Z's oil gets hot, its performance goes down the shitter, I keep my GT's revs high all over town, and never have I felt less power, I definitely dont miss having oil issues!

Holy crap! Sounds like a freakin' plane at cold start.

So Magnaflow Muffler delete means stock cans replaced with Magnaflow mufflers or resonators?

Thanks for posting so quick:tup:

its a loud mother when you get on it, pretty tame at idle. And muffler delete just means that it has no mufflers, all it is is some stainless steel tubing with pretty muffler tips welded on. If it didnt have resonators, my ears would bleed.

The mustang people have come up with an ingeniously complex and technical remedy for the problem of oil heating with these high performance engines that Nissan should look into. Using all the laws of thermodynamics, all the scientific calculations, all the visionary skill it takes to open up bold new horizons......they added 8 quart capacity........BRILLIANT!
