Default Buyer's Remorse

I have ordered my blue base auto Z with sports package. It's not coming in for awhile but I keep thinking maybe I should buy the touring edition with nav option.

For those of you that already have a 370Z, do you have any remorse about buying a different option or package? I'd like to learn from your experience if you had to do it all over again!

thanks for any replies that might help me be more comfortable with my choice. Of course if money wasn't an object, I would get the touring model.

No regrets whatsoever about not getting the touring, as I don't need a single things that it comes with. There are always aftermarket nav systems if you feel that you really need one.

Personally, I would NOT get the car without touring and Nav. Unless money is a factor, I would get them for resale value and just having all the amenities. I seriously doubt additional weight will hamper your peformance significantly.

Of course having said, spending $6k+ more for the same car (at least exterior appearance) is also hard to swallow. I can certainly see the argument for going base + peformance and throwing the $6k for performance mods...

Yeah, I'm the same. Wouldn't buy the car w/o the touring package. This is going to be my DD... it's not going to get tracked (well, maybe casually)... so I want it to be as nice as possible inside and out.

We purchased the touring/sports package with no nav—no regrets. Matter of personal choice; I don't think you can go wrong with any of the combinations.

The good thing is that Nissan does not try to hinder a buyer of the base model through a dictated radio size, or anything else. They pretty much have made it where you can do whatever you wish to your Z.

I bought a sport/touring 6 speed without nav. I would have taken mine either way. No regrets without the nav. I have a Garmin which I can put in any car.

I don't buy the resale argument some use for getting the Touring. You spend 6K more for Touring with Nav, you won't get 6K back come resale time. If one keeps the car for 4 years or more, you might get 2K more at best all other things being equal.

I'm still undecided if I want the Touring. There are a few things I really want from the Touring, but a lot of things I don't really need or care about. Money isn't the issue for me. The trade-off on performance vs. luxury is. I do want every ounce of performance this car has to offer, so to me that's the Base + Sport.

And although money isn't the issue for me, it's still a factor in principal. At $33K the car is a sports car performance bargain. At near $40K, it's just another nice sports car.

I bought the base with sport and an auto. Absolutely no remorse. I would say I drive the car 90% of the time with the radio off, so no loss there (although I have to admit, for only 4 speakers, the base radio is pretty nice). I have an iphone, so the navi wouldn't have helped much more than what I can do with google maps (has already gotten me out of a few binds). I would've liked the leather and the homelink rear view mirror, but for the additional 4300 or so touring cost, definately not worth it. I bought a sports car, not a luxury car and I'm happy.

Feel free to rip me on the auto tranny, but it's exactly what I wanted.

It is what I am getting (auto with base and sport) and I wanted leather, but for 4k more it was not worth it. Plus I know a few places that will redo the seats for a fair price (1,000) and it will be exactly what colors I want.

Hey, there is nothing wrong with 7AT I am all about performance but this will also be my DD (except rain/snow) so comfort and luxury ranks high.

Based on your basic math, $6k now for $2k, 4 yrs later isn't so bad considering depreciation and extra "utility" of having touring and nav. Also, we can underestimate the extra marketing edge of having touring and nav later vs a base car - could mean quicker sale later.

I am also not buying your extra "performance" over touring - come on, we are talking 46lbs.

At the end, it all comes down to what can you afford and willing to dish out for a Z. Either way, it's win win.

If one buys the Touring + Nav because that's what one wants, more power to 'em - nothing wrong with that. But to buy with the mindset of helping resale value is what I don't agree with. Cars are depreciating assets no matter how you spin it. The more you spend, the more you will lose in depreciation in the long run.

As for performance, yeah 46 lbs may not seem like a big deal. Yet there will be many trying to shave every bit of fat from the Z to get it lighter. Starting out with the Touring + Nav + 7spd AT starts you off automatically at a weight disadvantage. That’s the heaviest configuration model. You’ve got an added 46 for the Touring + 37 for the AT + more for the Nav.

Although Nissan marketing claims 46 lbs difference, I have a sneaky feeling once people get the cars on the scales the Touring will be even heavier. Nissan states the Base is 3232 lbs. Yet Car & Driver and MotorTrend weighed their test cars (Base + Sport) at 3350-3370 lbs. Add 46+ lbs more, means the Touring will be well over 3400 lbs!

But having said all this, I’m still personally torn between whether to get the Touring or Base. For me, it’s not about the money; I will be paying cash for the car either way. It basically comes down to what I want for my needs.

I think the Nav is not worth the extra cost. My friend just got a really nice Nav system for $300 including a touch screen, stereo, video, etc as well as a back up camera and sonar system for his '08 G35. That's the route I'd take and spend the 2K on performance, etc...

I think in order to answer your question intelligently, we need to know why you feel that you might be better off with the touring edition and nav. Then we could address those items point by point. Let's take the Touring package, for example. What is it in the Touring pkg that you think you might not be able to live without? Bluetooth? Leather? Something else? If you can provide some specifics, I think we'd be able to help you analyze this a little better.

I got the touring edition for the stereo and the other nice things, sat radio, the car just looked better with all the add ons. I can't stand GPS units installed in cars, my verizon navigtor phone does all that and stays with me wherever I travel, I have yet to get lost in any vehicle driving to and from work, kills me to see local folks getting a GPS installed in there dash when all they do is go to and from the grocery store.

Now if you travel extensively and "Tour" around the country be honest is this the car your going to do it in. I like the car without nav, because the little cubby they left with the cool door, I put my IPOD or my sunglasses in and call it the bat cave...
