Just washed her.

kenchan 07-02-2011 10:02 AM

Just got back motoring my Z. Was a great drive. :p. I luv my Z.

FromG2Z 07-02-2011 03:37 PM

^ Kenchan kenchan'd his Z! :D

I too kenchan'd my Z... I drove by a dealership to look at a car, and sales dude was inching over.... started mouthing how long have you had this... I proceeded to mumble... "a while", then got in the car and drove off. God, I hate dealerships. Just leave me alone to look at cars, will ya.... I should have drove there tomorrow.

98intrigue 07-02-2011 04:11 PM

Haven't driven my car since Wednesday. It's back in the shop where it belongs.

christian370z 07-02-2011 04:45 PM

^Haha, gotta love the first with a one off setup.

I just got back from Shanghai last night, washed the Z this morning and took her for a stroll for the first time in 2 months... Damn it felt good, driving is definitely underrated.

ncheung85 07-02-2011 04:55 PM

Put on new wheels/tires
Change oil (way past due)

sometimes i cut too much and so use masking tape on the template and recut.

the b-pillar template took me only a few min to make using this technique.

I used pretty much the same technique. I'm thinking of doing my door handles next. Any other ideas?

I think it's 3M - a friend of mine has a bunch of it so I just got it from him.

Yeah swirls are a big no-no ;) To properly deswirl, you'll need to polish. To polish, you will need a buffer (DA or rotary...I use DA's, as they are safer...my Flex is a DA, but with power of a rotary), pads, and polishes. After that, you can glaze it if you like, then seal, then wax.

Proper washing and QD'ing techniques are a MUST to maintain a swirl-free finish. It's all in the technique. It's too lengthy to go over here, but let's just say I take 2 hours to wash using several buckets, mitts, a foam gun, a leaf blower and lots of QD :P

ONR is short for Optimum No Rinse... look it up. It's revolutionary (if used properly). I use ONR only when I have heavy dust. If it got rained on, it must be a 2 or 3 bucket wash for sure.

RE b-pillars, thanks man! And thanks for the detailing tips - I know it's a long subject and I've had several conversations about it. I spoke to a guy today who runs a car polishing/detailing company and he quoted me $65 an hour, and said it'd take about five hours. I don't have $320+ dollars to spend on that right now, so I guess I'll have to be watching YouTube videos and buying the stuff I need to do it myself. :ugh2::icon14:

Np dude... yeah that's what I charged too, for a full detail. (Used to run my own detailing business). It's a lot of hard work :( But it's really not that bad. Just get yourself a buffer (DA), some polish and some pads, and you're set! :)

Took Zena out for a spin and got some better pics of my new rear valence in full sunlight today. I just love that new look. Sets off the rear perfectly. I also tried my futile attempt at showing my patriotism (via my neighbor's flag LOL) for the holiday weekend :D

my thought exactly if i had gotten there 15 minutes sooner the sun would have still been up in the cloud.

not sure how familiar you are with Monmouth county, but that was taking in blackberry park in oceanport after cruising navesink river road in Rumson and the twin light overlook in Highlands there the only two good twisty roads by me

kenchan 07-03-2011 10:37 AM

Nice sunset. :D

Motored the Z this am again. Other than a stupid goofball in a older ugly light green (yuk) prius almost crashing into me, everything was great. Stupid f-kers out there. :D

Then QD'ed and also QD'ed my G. :p

Red__Zed 07-03-2011 11:36 AM

Dropped the front plate. Hooray Alabama.

Yeah not too familiar. Highlands, is that near the Hartshorne State Park area?? Im pretty sure the Navesink is in that area too no?? Used to do a lot of mtn biking at Hartshorne, great single track trails there.

Thanks man! Yeah definitely go rolled tips. It looks a tad more "grown-up" imo.

And nice sunset pic!

kenchan 07-03-2011 04:09 PM

Woot just got done doing my G's oil change using my new little 12v makita driver to remove the bottom cover. Much less clumsy than my compact 18v milwaukee. :p. Will do my Z's change on Tues since I'm off and I'm sure roads are going to be congested anyway...

Also vac'ed the G and detailed/conditioned the leather seats using LeatherCare spray. :p

onzedge 07-03-2011 06:44 PM

I did nothing with the 370, but spent time with the 240 washing, adjusting carbs (yes, carbs) and replacing the battery.
