Happy,

I believe Stillen says that these produce 8 to 12 whp. These were my second mod I did (June 2010), the first being the oil cooler. They definitely improved throttle response and sound. I did not want to go with the Gen 3 because I did not want to take my bumper on and off to inspect/clean air filters.

Hindsight being what it is -- I would go with the Gen 3 if I was doing it again. The bumper on/off process is easy and quick.

:tiphat:

onzedge, props to you for being dedicated on a sunday night ;) I was dedicated Sunday morning :) Nice job on the detail. I am usually not a fan of the fairlady emblem, but looks great on yours!!!

For me today, up at 6 to give her a full wash, then waxed her with Pinnacle Signature Series II.... something different to mix it up. I am already looking forward to driving her to work tomorrow.

FromG2Z 08-21-2011 10:32 PM

can you STILL get the the Stillen gen 2's?

I like the thought of not having to remove the front bumper nor cutting through part of my frame. Plus the risk of cutting ac lines.

no real gains tho. HPS tubes over them for sure, at least when factoring in price.

Hey Russ, great meeting you and Karen yesterday. It was our first time down there and Laura and I were really impressed. Jose and Sam were terrific hosts. Some great cars also, including that M6 and that nice Speedster in the back. We are looking forward to getting down there on a regular basis.

Personally I'd probably take the risk on putting in the R2C intakes before installing the Stillen Gen 2. Otherwise I'd do the drop ins for stock placement or G3 style.

Eh... To be honest, I am really happy with the oem boxes. My wix drop-ins are great. Not sure if the $$$ is worth the minimal gains.

It's one of those I'd be happy with or without aftermarket intakes.

actually the R2C intakes were great. their while filters breath like crazy too. i had them in the past on my Z and it made the car very responsive. the thing about these intakes is they make the engine pretty loud so that was the only reason i went back to the stock boxes + HPS + K&N drop-ins. then i realized how less responsive my car is now. :D hahaha. but it's okay, for now i'll take the quieter redlines. :p

Man working all weekend sux LOL. I didn't do my plasti dip due to the wet Friday. I do have everything I need to do it and will get it done Tues. and remove overspray Fri. Thurs. I went to a great cruise, over 500 cars and got to watch the new Planet Of Apes at the drive-in. Although I didn't win a trophy I got alot of looks from people going by. Which is worth more to me. I was in a group of Corvettes and next to a great looking Chevelle Convert. and they didn't even get second looks. The fact that my side blades touched the grass helped. Even had a lady tell her daughter that my car raised up when driving it was soo low LOL No I don't have air ride.:hello:

kenchan 08-22-2011 09:05 AM

fire- sounds like you got the week already planned out! GL at the car show!

if you really want like 4th and 5th looks i hear putting a huge hello kitty sticker on the doors help. :icon17:

Nick -- why is there a risk with the R2C? I am curous.

Mt Tam I am 08-22-2011 10:41 AM

I finished waxing my hood/roof/bumper, after Sears Point. I had more tar ball, rubber, black sh1t all over the place. A couple of paint chips but my acrylic wax helped reduce clean up time. At least an extra hour to take off junk.

Totally worth it. When you get a paint chip at the track it hurts so much less. I do not care actually. It reminds me of how much fun I had.

The only reason I say risk is because as far as the 370z goes there isn't a lot of info on gains(there are some dyno's out there) and the obvious heat soak situation of a short ram on the Z seems to be unconfirmed. So to me it's sort of a shot in the dark that they will show gains like a LT intake or drop ins.

If I knew for sure they showed gains and didn't heat soak I'd be all over them.

kenchan 08-22-2011 11:32 AM

there is heat soak if there is leak in the heatsheilds. the R2C's were much better IAT wise vs others ive tried, nearly stock unless stopped for a long time. im not here to bash other manuf's short rams so i will leave it at that. :icon17:

but you buy those short ram kits for the response, not power gain imho. the time it takes for the throttle to respond is much shorter and a lot freer mid-band. stock box bogs worse when outside rev range. i use to be able to easily chirp 3rd but with stock box HPS+K&N = harder... actually havent been able to yet.

yah, we'll ask you again what happened to your chippy front once your brain settles a bit. :icon17: ;)

FromG2Z 08-22-2011 06:13 PM

^ yeah I second that.... the minute I get a chip, I will lose sleep over it :D Hence why I'm covered in 3M and Llumar... lol

dammit, this is making want to get the R2Cs now. (must be patient and wait for Motordyne to release their intake...).

That is almost unavoidable at the track unfortunately, I think I would swallow my pride and use some blue painters tape to cover the front bumper and side skirts if I ever get to do a track day.

Alchemy 08-22-2011 07:34 PM

Gettin ready to wash her up real good tomorrow. Im off this week and me and my girlfriend are heading down to the shore for the week. Gotta make sure the z looks good, even tho I still have my deer damage.

BeachZTT 08-22-2011 08:50 PM

Thanks for all the props on the shots and the ZR! Been a long day... off the grid so to speak.

Edge- Nice badge! Sam has been working on that for a long time and I am glad to see it come together.

No ZR action today. She stayed in the garage. Drove the TT to work and had a bit of a rattle at low RPM in first. Drove her right onto the ramps when I got home. Found the heat shield on the starter was banging on the exhaust... Why you ask? Because the starter was so loose I am surprised it worked! Also found a vacuum line off that was causing a major boost leak(I have known for a couple of weeks there was a leak somewhere). I forgot what the car was supposed to feel like!!! Lag is gone. :happydance:

Awesome! I spoke with Bryan Settle (of ZDayZ) before he left and he is hoping to be back next month and bring the track car. I told him we would try and get a Z group to go for some lunch afterward. It would be awesome if you and Laura could make it.
