Demon Z 05-09-2011 08:48 PM

I drove my Z for a better part of the day today. Washed it and put it away. It's supposed to rain and/or storm for the next few days so I can hit it with my new clay bar and a couple coats of wax while I'm waiting for the next nice day.

PapoZalsa 05-09-2011 08:51 PM

Not a Damn thing!

However, this weekend will be wash and wax ready for the trip to ZdayZ next Wednesday.

chops 05-09-2011 08:57 PM

ZForce 05-10-2011 10:29 PM

Mounted an in cabin camera mount. Tested it with DVD Camcorder, smooth and stable. Waiting for my GoPro to arrive tomorrow and still need to test the DSLR to see if it can handle the additional weight.

kenchan 05-10-2011 10:42 PM

I think my xpel arrived today. Will install over the weekend. :) got too many boxes stacked up in receiving..

still no word yet on my knob.....hummmmm...wanted to install that this weekend...

FromG2Z 05-10-2011 10:44 PM

Let's see... I did a lot for the Z today and over the weekend...

I ordered, received, installed, and played with my newest toy for Zena... Escort Passport 9500ix. I figured my ten year old passport 8500 needed an upgrade. The new ix rocks. Bye bye false alerts via the learn mode...tested that out today. Also marked the new red light cameras and speed trap cameras into the database. GPS-based detectors rock.

Then today, I drove her to work and back twice (went home for lunch), then washed her, used my new daytona wheel brush (awesome), then dried her with OID and several Mf's... blow dried the remnants. I made sure I took my time washing her today. So stress relieving for me.

kenchan 05-10-2011 10:50 PM

^^ wow, sounds like a fun day!

Cool. I have been using the 9500ix for about 7 months. It is a great unit and saves me regularly.

Love my Titanium GT Nismo shifter knob since day one of owning the Z34...errr... that would be March 20 2009. I call it the hand grenade.

So you can manually enter red light cameras where it doesn't identify them? Swweeeet!

Vacuumed my Z out today.

So you like yours then? I have had mine for about 3 days. I had an older 8500 for almost 10 years and that thing has saved me SO many times. I haven't had a chance to test the 9500 on the highway yet... but are you impressed with the range? I was debating the Redline instead, but I drive mostly city, so the false alerts would KILL me. Plus no GPS/no camera detection. Any other negatives for the 9500 in your opinion?

Ahhh... yours is diff't from mine/ours. Yours is the GT version right? The shape is more circular/oval, and has a set screw up top right? The one I have is the regular Nismo Ti knob... shaped like a cylinder. Direct screw-on. I love mine as well. I call it the "Nismo Ti Knob" :p hehe

Hey happy... yes, the 9500 has a built in database with all "known" red light/speed trap cameras in North America. It will warn you within how many thousand/hundred feet before approaching. Way cool. Of course, there are cameras that keep popping up and getting installed by cities trying to earn more revenue (boooo...), so the 9500 has a feature that you can "mark" the locations and label it as Speedtrap or Redlight or Other, etc. Then it's permanently stored, unless you unmark it.

You can then upload that location into the Escort database to help out other Escort users ;) You can then download the latest updates as often as you like. Free for 90 days, then after that 20 bucks for 1 year.... not bad.

BeachZTT 05-11-2011 09:29 AM

Installed my Swift springs (yesterday, actually)...

I am very happy with it. I have used Escorts and Passports since the early 80's. I still have a Solo S2 I use in my 240z and when I travel. I have no way of telling what the range difference is, but it seems like it gives me plenty of heads-up.

Regarding the updates from Escort -- they are not free. If you want to keep the speedcams, etc., updated then you need to pay for a subscription. This is a downside, IMO. The thing cost 500 dollars and they get you for a monthly fee? Not cool, but oh well. The second negative is that the woman's voice that comes on to tell you that a traffic cam is approaching scares the crap out of me sometimes.

Other than these two points, the unit is exceptional.

The subscription fee is only 20 bucks a year though... so yeah, it's annoying, but I think it's worth it... esp if you drive a lot. Cameras are popping up like crazy EVERY where.

As for your 2nd negative, you know you can either turn down the voice volume or shut off the voice volume right? ;)

So sounds like you're happy with it then. No need for me to switch it to a V1 or something eh?

What's an R2C intake Ken? So you're not happy with it??? I was thinking about getting a Stillen G3.... not worth it? I am getting old too I guess ;)

Nice work on those springs... sounds like you have your own compressor there? Impressive. I'd prolly have a shop do mine. Also, any concerns about changing the handling characteristics of the stock ride/cornering ability? In stock form, the handling and ride is already great. I don't want to mess with that. I'm worried that for merely gaining a "lower look", I sacrifice a worse ride/handling compromise.

thats actually very smart of them, businesswise. they patented the idea of having a gps database on radar detectors so their competitors cant spit out a similar product. and whats the #1 way companies in america are making money now? by selling services. $20 for 1yr of subscriptions is hardly anything to complain about considering a redlight ticket costs upwards of $500. they also do 3 yrs for 40 dollars....which is a steal!

.

it's probably the best short-ram intake made for the Z. comes with heatsheilds that actually seal very well IAT's that resembles stock and nice response.

the noise is the only thing. ive had intakes on all my cars including my dd and G35C but lately been taking them off going back to stock boxes for the quieter ride. :icon17:

Actually, I have what I call the "two stick compressor" and considered purchasing a new one form HF until I read the reviews. A friend of mine has a "Strut-Tamer" mounted on the wall at his shop. I went up there and he helped me swap the fronts out. Glad I did. The helix on the stock spring is pretty sharp. It would have been tough. Rest of the job is cake.

Today I drove a rental car because a Range Rover hit my newly acquired 09 370z. The body shop should be done Friday and they are spraying the valance, fangs, and roof in black. Should look nice on a Monterey Blue..

Purchased stock suspension from a member so I can swap out the 30k mi stuff on my car when I go to install the Swift springs I pre-ordered.

Got my LED reverse and parking lights from V-LED today, but alas no car to install on.

Ordered a set of HID bulbs from DDMTuning in 12k, also getting a set from a local member in 6k.

Spent an hour trying to get tint arranged for the Z when it's back.

Missing my car and wasting too much time deciding on an intake system or HPS tubes and Drop-ins.

No sandstorms this weekend so I hand waxed my car. Then Monday had another sandstorm. So I got to try out my new California duster to get the layer of dust off my car.

To be honest, I prefer the stock colored spoiler, vs the black. Just doesn't flow with the rest of your car.
