ZForce 03-28-2011 11:23 PM

Drove it home from the train station (a whole 3.5 miles). Purchased some springs, selling some springs.

I have seen a few of these installed, and I keep asking myself if it's worth the trouble to do that install? Merely eye-candy right? hmmmmm... I go back and forth.... do you like it? changes the look of the interior of the car?

If you consider turning a few phillips head screws and 10-20 minutes of your time "trouble", then no, it's definitely not worth it.
It takes me longer to wash my car.
That said, it doesn't do anything other than give you a "racier" looking start button with a harder, smoother plastic feel versus the subdued look and brushed, softer feel of the white button.

More pics and ridiculously easy DIY here in case you haven't seen it:

Thanks Luna... still, some work involved plus cost of the part. So was just wondering if the folks who have it installed like the looks of it (over some period of time) within the interior.

After spending the $40 to buy the part and turning a few screws for 15 minutes, I don't give it much thought, to be honest. I push it, then I drive the car. It's not like I sit in the car and fap to my red button.
I am happier with it installed, though. If I had designed the car, it would have come with a red button and red brakes to begin with.

Washed the car just before dusk. Took it for a quick spirited spin and had to rewash rear fenders. Would those stock mud flaps have helped?

I am very happy with the look the red GT-R start button gives the interior. I like the look much better than the stock start button. Otherwise it operates the same as the OEM button. In the grand scheme of car modding it is a very inexpensive mod that requires minimal time and effort to switch out. That's the best kind of car mod.

Just Wondering!

Same thing I have done since Thanksgiving.....nothing! It sits in my garage covered up until we have a 60+ at least degree day. Sometimes I get crazy and wonder why I'm paying for something I'm not using! :ohsnap1: Anybody else feel the same?

Not to quibble but the best mod in my opinion is one that improves preformance. True that $40 might not get you much.

Didn't you know that the GT-R start button was good for 15 rwhp. Got to be the cheapest performance mod out there. :roflpuke2:

You are correct, but I don't know of many $40 mods that will improve performance very much either. Well maybe the urethane bushings I put on my Stillen sway bars make some difference in the performance of the sway bars and they cost less than $40.

98intrigue 03-29-2011 02:25 PM

I just bought more goodies. 3 more to go and I'll be done!

I know how you feel. this morning this old man in his cadillac just changed into my lane so he could make the exit and pancaked me between his car and the metal railings. I had nowhere to go. I honked him he just raised his hands up in the air. I slowed down and was just microseconds away from hitting either his car or the railings.

I feel the same way too especially i'm paying near $400/month for it.

I've had the car for over 15 months and i only have 4700 miles so far. that means i only drive 300 miles a month. not worth for paying that much money every month and drive so little.

kenchan 03-30-2011 01:32 PM

amazing- sorry to see this. :( people are stupid.

FromG2Z 03-30-2011 01:54 PM

Sorry to hear and see the damage. Make sure you make her insurance pay for EVERYthing.

I've owned the car for about 7 months and I have 400 miles on her :) The smile and rush I get whenever I DO drive her though, makes the amount paid worthwhile. Also whenever I give her a wash and detail and I get to caress the car's curves... makes it worthwhile. It's an "escape" for me... escape from work, from stress, and everyday monotonous activities. Even though it's low miles, makes it all the more rewarding to look forward to.

kenchan... be careful with using QD esp when dust/dirt/w/e has a good layer on there. Not sure if you're as anal as I am or other folks on autogeekonline :), but doing that can sometimes cause swirls, esp on a black car being extremely visible. I usually qd or cali dust only if very very light dust. Anything more than 2 days worth of dust I resort to washing with 2 buckets and 4 mitts ;)
