Default Nissan Co. claims that state law instructs them....

I know this has been covered several times. However it makes me MAD when a Corporation like Nissan denies documents they produced. This is a little bit long but you will see the ignorance in the the top of the food chain.

Nissan Co. (CORPORATE COMMUNICATIONS for SOUTHEAST) claims that state law instructed them to put 1 inch hole on the front bumper of the 370Z for those states that requires a front license plate.

Rebecca Martin from Business Affair contacted me via phone in behalf of Darryll Harrison & Scott Stevens of Nissan Co. She tried to feed me all this BS concening the issue. Telling me that the DMV, State or Local Police Department requires the dealer to drill two holes of approximately 1 inch in diameter in the front bumper of the car. However the only thing that the local law requires is for the front plate to be display in the front.

I checked with the DMV, State and Local Police and in no way, shape or form they do instruct the dealers on how to attach a front license plate and/or require to drill two holes of that size on the front bumper.

The funny thing is the representative denied that the instructions to mount the front license plate holder comes from Nissan Co. So I email them I told them to look at the 2009 370Z Owner's Manual page 9-12 & 9-13 were they will find the instructions written by the Nissan Co. on how to attach the license holder.

The dealer gave me the exact instructions for pre-delivery as the one in the Owner's Manual, except that the page numbers are different.

So instead of denying the fact written in the instructions for the dealer and owners to make two 1 inch holes in the front bumper of a Brand New Car prior to delivery to the costumer they should take responsability for their Engineer/Technicians actions.

I told them via email to have their representatives research and get information on the issue before calling a customer and trying to feed them false information about the issue.

I wrote to:

Damn that's crazy. I bought mine out of state in PA (requires front plate) and they handed me the front mounting hardware...No holes drilled. And I live in NJ which requires a front plate as well. I'm still debating on what I will do when my plates arrive. I don't want to drill and I don't want to spend the $$$ for the Stillen front plate mount. I may take my chances for a while and see if I get pulled over.

I has an idea.

Get a portable drill. Get a 1" hole saw.

Go to the dealership that put the hole in your car.

Proceed to put 1" holes in all the Nissan vehicles on the lot, to match how they did yours.

I did! She told me I could not speak with anyone else. In another words she was the last line of defense...BS.

But I'm not done with this issue, just been busy having an issue with my broken heat pump for weeks, finally fixed.

But I'm going to get to the bottom of this BS!

Simple, get her name, and call back, and demand to talk to a supervisor.

If that doesn't work, there are ways to get some higher-up's attention...you just have to be more persistant than to let someone with a 'tude problem.

I'm confused. Did your car come with the holes already drilled? Mine didn't (I'm in California). It does however have the two little dimples where one would drill according to the manufacturers specs as you have posted up here.

Where's the dillemna here?

California Vehicle Code

11713.17. (a) Following the retail sale or lease of a motor vehicle
for which the department issues two license plates, a dealer may not
deliver the motor vehicle unless either of the following occurs:
(1) The motor vehicle is equipped with a bracket or other means of
securing a front license plate.
(2) The dealer obtains a signed written acknowledgment from the
person taking delivery of the motor vehicle acknowledging both of the
following:
(A) The person expressly refused installation of a bracket or
other means of securing the front license plate.
(B) The person understands that California law requires a license
plate to be displayed from and securely fastened to the front of the
motor vehicle and that the hardware necessary to securely fasten the
front plate is available from the dealer.
(b) A manufacturer or distributor may not sell or distribute in
this state a new motor vehicle for which the department issues two
license plates, unless that motor vehicle is equipped or provided
with a bracket or other means of securing the license plates.

I can't find any thing about license plate holes.

KB.. I'm guessing that his car already came with holes drilled and he perhaps didn't want that. Upon taking it back to the dealer and asking for a fresh replacement bumper with no holes, the dealer told him they were instructed via California law/ DMV requirements (which there are none) and now he's pissed.

Why didn't you just ask them to not mount the front bracket, and when they said no proceed to the next dealership. I live in NJ which requires the front plate and I simply asked them not to mount the front bracket and it was not a problem.
