Gas, which one?

My question is around which gas grade to use: 87, 89 or 93. 90% of my driving will be back and forth to work, 60 MPH for about 40 minutes

Default Gas, which one?

My question is around which gas grade to use: 87, 89 or 93. 90% of my driving will be back and forth to work, 60 MPH for about 40 minutes one way. Due to the differences in cost on gas grades, what our your thoughts about me running 87 or 89 for my driving habit? I gassed up the other day and out of habit I put 87 in. I am not hearing and enginee noises. [2020, 370Z Sport Touring]

Nissan recommends premium for a reason. If you can't afford premium gas, you can't afford the car. If you can afford premium gas, why risk using regular?

Dude, go for it! I've used all grades for years and haven't noticed one thing. You can let the grade bullies influence you, or just do what you want. In my case, grades don't matter at all. 87 if I feel like it, the rest can go to hell.

murfulk,

My past Z experience is what I'm referring to here, particularly my last Z, a 1990 300ZX NA that I owned for 27 years until I purchased my 2016 Roadster.

That 300ZX was designed to run on premium fuel, and up until 2 weeks before I sold it at 81 000 km (50 000 mi) I always used regular unleaded fuel to fuel it up. Understand that the car was just a toy and was never hotdogged. No ... I never spun the tires once during my ownership, or ever tried to find out how fast it would go.

During those years I never once had an engine issue, never heard a hint of preignition/engine knock, and never abused the car. A month before I sold the car I switched to premium fuel (for the benefit of the new buyer) and I couldn't believe the change in the power that the car was then able to generate. What a transformation!

Understand that I'm 70 years young now and always treated the car with respect, and I didn't require the car to suck the doorknobs off every other car on the road. It was a sunny day top off cruiser for my Bride and me.

What I'm trying to get across is, if you are not an aggressive driver, aren't street racing, and basically drive intelligently (not like some of these clowns in the 370z YouTube videos), you may well be able to use regular unleaded fuel and not hurt the car. BUT if after a couple of tankfuls of regular you hear even the slightest preignition/engine knock on acceleration .... switch to a higher fuel grade until you find one where the engine is happy again.

As for my present 370z Ro0adster ... I run premium fuel in it because I just don't have to worry about money, even though I still drive it the same way as my old 300zx. And I'm willing to bet that I'll never have to worry about having a CSC failure either.

Just my 2 cents worth, even though we don't have pennies any more in Canada.

It honestly doesn’t matter what your driving habits are because Nissan/Infiniti highly recommends only using premium 91+ octane pump gas fuel in our 370Z’s. Also Nissan/Infiniti only recommends using top tier gasoline in our cars as well running cheap low quality less expensive fuels in our cars will only hinder performance and over time add to carbon build up and deposits in your engine. If you own basically a new 2020 370Z don’t risk detonation by using 87 or 89 octane not good. In the hot summer months you are asking detonation/pinging and possible engine damage over time by not running the correct fuel. As stated if you can not afford premium top tier gasoline for your Z then you really can not afford to own a 370Z. For pump gas I will only use Chevron 93 or Texaco 93 octane. Any quality top tier gasoline will work just fine as long as it is 91 octane or higher. Be selective of what gasoline you choose to use in your Z because Nissan/Infiniti vehicles were always sensitive to cheap inexpensive low quality fuels be careful.
