Default New savagegeese review of 2020 370Z

This might already have been posted elsewhere (I couldn't find it), savagegeese recently did a review of the 2020 370Z 50th Anniversary Edition (though their comments apply to all 370Z's generally). I think he's one of the best reviewers out there (even though most of this test was done by some new guy, maybe an associate or an intern?):

Jack Singapore? He's been on the channel multiple times.

I agree with most of the review tbh

Love his reviews, incredibly detailed and honest, with a practical big picture perspective

And the key point which I've said before:
Buy it used, save thousands, be happy

He was a bit of a boo-boo when he drove the Nismo a while back, as if he just wanted a reason to complain about something. He does acknowledge that he is warming up to it when accounting for the broader view of the car industry.

Jack isn't horrible, but the moments he studders or misspeaks kinda seem out of place in an otherwise typically very well-composed savagegeese video. It's also weird when he talks about what a car can do but it's not exemplified...like an armchair race car driver of sorts.

Like he said he was going to "light up the tires" in his LC500 review, and did the exact opposite. I don't know if it was a cut/footage issue, or that's some very dry sarcastic humor. I'm not trying to go on a tangent here, or hate on the guy, but I haven't really looked to Jack or savagegeese as a wholesome resource. They touch on some key things and have awesome production value, but the takeaway does nothing for giving me an impression on a car. The Straight Pipes seem to give a better sense of how a car is in reality even though they're hardly technical and literally use a single corner for a performance baseline.

The Dude in the comments nails it!

Everyone: I wish they still made a simple, affordable, reliable sports car with enough horsepower and not to much tech. A manual gearbox is a must.

Nissan: 370z

Everyone: eeeewwww! It’s old and simple and doesn’t have enough tech!

Because cost matters. $35k for a stock, new Z is a terrible buy, $45k for a new nismo is even dumber

Trim ten grand or more from cost on a used one? Much more reasonable

I can say the same thing about 95% of the sports cars out there today.

Yeah but most (if any) sports cars out today are not on their literal 10th year of production on the same exact engine/platform.

I mean sure if the Z really just ticks all the boxes for a particular person in 2019/2020, and they have the money to give no craps about financial value, and relentless obsession to call it the car of their dreams, and they want a warranty, ok — Buying it new is justified.

If we're talking about the best value sports car on a more objective level in this pricing tier, it's probably more like a Camaro SS, Mustang GT, or used Corvette C7. No, they don't necessarily capture all the intangibles of the Z, but bottom line they are faster with vastly superior creature comforts.

The Camaro and Mustang are NOT “sports” cars and if we’re talking used, the Z is a bargain over the C7, but that apples and oranges, since we are talking new.

The C8 on the other hand... But still tech heavy and no manual gearbox (yet).

How’s $60,000 to $100,000 for a new Supra with no manual gearbox.

the 60k supra is better than any new Z you can buy, sorry

used, less so

a turbo kit is $10k in parts, before labor and tuning

no need to puff up the Z. It's an old platform, it shouldn't hurt your feelings that it has flaws in is current form on the dealership lot compared to new cars

have you seen any of the new supra? there's alot of modern engineering, GOOD engineering that went into it, plus the platform has built-in upgradeability, much moreso than the Z

the smallest example? The fender vents on the supra are blocked off in current form - but they're THERE. Its design to be opened up, its placed in a location to function, and future performance versions will feature them. or you can just remove the blockage

on the Z? i have to hack up the fender to install the Finite Element fender vents.

its little things like that you don't really "think about when you say "60k supra" versus "45k nismo"
