If you don't have a tint guy already - I recommend Randy @ Glass Act Window Tinting in Tampa.... he's mobile and did a great job on both my Z's.

Zingston 07-20-2017 08:56 PM

Nice! I'll call him next time I'm in town (my Z is resting in the garage with its favorite tender right now). Thanks!

JARblue 07-21-2017 02:55 PM

Stranded on the side of the road with my Z. Probably the slave failure I predicted a few months back. Or it could be yet anther OEM master cylinder failure. Clutch fluid is beautifully clear and dropped from max to a few mm below min.

It's a Z1 external slave so repair is just a new $60 cylinder and no dropping of the transmission. We'll see what the diagnosis is.

Leingod 07-21-2017 02:59 PM

That blows JAR. Sorry to hear....

Jayhovah 07-21-2017 03:04 PM

Bummer... at least its an inexpensive replacement if its the slave. If not... maybe time for an RJM master?

ramoszx12r 07-21-2017 03:13 PM

Take couple shuts and go to sleep, maybe tomorrow is a better day. GET WELL SOON!

Well, it's definitely not the clutch. It makes a terrible sputtering noise trying to start and just doesn't catch.

After a long day, I got a bit of rest and started thinking ... I'm probably going to feel like a complete moron when I go over to the shop in the morning. I'm going over there with a 5 gallon can of premium gas to see if it was perhaps just fuel starve :o

That would be my first real encounter with it ... definitely happened on a hard right hand turn where I had the rear end stepping out just a hair. I already feel a bit like a dope for not thinking about that possibility when it happened. Thankfully the tow was free, so I'm not out anything other than my Friday afternoon. And I spent all morning fly fishing on the river, so it was a good day all in all :)

As for me, I installed a nice new Pioneer head unit today along with the Axxess ASWC-1. Works perfectly!

I'm running the dash speakers and door speakers in a true 2-way active setup along with time alignment. It makes the stock non-Bose speakers sound pretty darn good... Considering. In fact, it sounds better than my brother's Sport Bose system.

I put 5 gallons of premium in the Z and she fired right up :happydance:

I filled up completely and calculated that there was over 7 gallons of fuel in the tank when starvation occurred. Went ahead and topped off the low clutch fluid as well.

As punishment for my idiocy, I installed the brand new Fast Intentions non-resonated carbon fiber exhaust that's been sitting in my garage since last October

Pioneer's true 7" screen double dins are really nice. USB is located on the back

Thank you! And that's using the stock dash bezel. When using these double din units, there's really no need to use the aftermarket bezels.

Did you get an adapter and plug it into your center console usb?

My car didn't come with a center console usb :icon17: I'm using android auto anyway so I have my usb-c connection running into the arm rest

Ignore my last post :rofl2: By the way, it looks good. Double din install in my z was one of the easiest I've done (not that I've done a lot).

killrain 07-23-2017 10:55 AM

Changed to red line my-85 for the tranny. Sprayed some rust converter on the undercarriage. Has anyone used pennzoil synchromesh or combined it with other fluids? Just curious since it says it's safe for yellow metals.

I am running the same setup as you, thought with a lower end pioneer headunit (avh-3800bhs). Base speakers actually sound pretty good to me, I plan to keep them =)

Make sure you remove the on-board crossover from the factory dash speakers! just a capacitor - desolder and short.

I plan to buy some generic USB mounts (you can get cigarette lighter style ones) and install in my center console so I have ports for my headunits USB/Aux ports, and also for the USB update ports for my AL Priority and ASWC-1. Will be nice to use/update/configure without having to pull any panels.

I can get the stereo out of the Z in under 5 minutes so not a big deal to me. I've done it so many times already

The stock speakers do sound amazingly good. Tight and punchy bass also.

As for the dash speakers, I left the caps on them. I'm running the Pioneer crossover as low as it will go for the tweeter high-pass (1.25 kHz). I plan on replacing them with Memphis Audio PRX27 drivers. It's a shame the Pioneer crossover doesn't go lower. I'd love to run the new dash speakers down around 500 Hz.

Keep in mind the OEM crossover point is about 8khz. So if you have both mid and low crossed at 1.25k there could be a hole in the response between 1.25 and 8.

Yesterday, I was just listening to random crap on the radio, and it sounded pretty good. Bass strong and tight, better treble extension and smoothness. Though today, I've been out in the car for about the past hour streaming Tidal with music I'm familiar with. Turning the gains all the way down on the door speakers and playing with crossover points on the tweeters, I came to same conclusion that the caps on the tweeters roll off around 8 kHz.

Switching things around, I turned the gains all the way down on the tweeters and just listened to the door speakers. With the crossover point rather low, below 2 kHz, the tonal balance isn't too bad. Once you start getting up past 4 kHz, those door speakers start getting a bit muddy, cupped and honky sounding.

I'll definitely be upgrading those tweeters to the Memphis PRX27 drivers. The lower the crossover frequency on those the better.

Long story short, these last couple of posts should probably be over in the "Audio" section.

A couple of night time shots. The color match of the Pioneer buttons and the HVAC controls are pretty much perfect in person, though the camera shows a little difference. Then again, it does that with the entire dash anyway.

And yes, I listen to a lot of classical and jazz. :tiphat:

Tried to replace fr sway bar with new eibach sway, bolts were so tight i busted my knuckles on the ground and said f*** it!

Took it to the shop that does all my suspension work, they did it in about what seemed like 15min :ugh2:

***Already asked the wife for a battery powered "impact gun" and low profile jack for christmas***

Feedback on new sway is that the car feels tighter, more stable and taking curves at higher speeds than i used to is easier, although I need to do more driving to really test it out

Then went for a wash, now shes looking sexy :icon17:

Id like some full view pics from various angles in good detail please! Been considering one of these for like a year now haha. xD

But as far as recent with my Z I ran USB and Aux from my Sterio up to the blank buttons slots - Hopefully Ill fab the blank to perfectly fit these but for now they can just dangle lol

Also my fuel basket from a 16' Nismo was shipped today - hopefully this will cure my long standing issues I am currently having with my Z.
