You have to see the shaving to really tell what they are. Could be left over machine shaving, or anything else.

The consensus is that it is most likely left over machining bits from assembly and nothing to worry about. I'm certainly not going to worry about it - if its a problem, I'll find out soon enough.

That parts pile is significantly smaller today as about 1/3 of the pile is now installed on the car :D :driving:

ZOCIETY UK Meet - TORQEN (July 2020)

I took my 370z Nismo to meet some other cars and convoy to the UK Zociety meet hosted by Torqen...

And this Twin Turbo 370Z with Amuse body kit kinda stole the show... Thought some of you would enjoy it...

Just got the car running and back from the shop on Thursday. And yesterday I got caught by a bag of wet plaster or some shìt that ripped off my RH front fender liner, undershroud and RH splash guard. LH front fender liner was also a casualty of being left hanging to rub against the tire :shakes head:

Not normally a user of snake oil (I'm looking at you, EW) but running this through the engine in between oil changes has resulted in SERIOUSLY decreased lifter chatter.

I never use any oil additives - I just change the oil when it needs it. IMNSHO, if you need additives, what you actually need is a different oil. YMMV

But, hey, if it provides you some benefit, then I'm all for it.

I might use something like the cleaner on an older car that I may have just bought and the PO didn't take care of the engine.

I did something with my Z. Took pics using my new lens.

It's not technically an additive. You dump your oil, slap a new filter on, pour the cleaner in, and idle for five minutes. Then you dump the cleaner, put another new filter on, and put in yer regular oil.

I'm curious now. I think the only time i noticed chatter was when i tried out amsoil. After going back to Redline, I didn't notice it.

I did enjoy running Motul 300V but that was a special occasion when i did a 2day track day. I swear it was +15hp haha

You can do the same thing with a 50/50 mix of oil and kerosene. :rofl2:

Whatever you call it, if you need the cleaner, you have a problem somewhere else (probably the choice of oil).

But it's difficult to argue with success. If you're using a high-quality oil and still getting noise that the cleaner eliminates, then who am I to say not to use it? I'm guessing it's the lube part, not the cleaning part, that is causing the noise reduction you are seeing and that you could get the same effect with the "right" oil.

Friday I went to Wamego KS to the OZ museum, about 90 minutes from KC. It was time to get out of the county to get away from people.

Sunday afternoon took mine on a high speed run on Hwy 82 to Tombstone AZ, down Hwy 80 to Hwy 90 and back to Sierra Vista. Safely hit triple digits on the speedo.

You would think so, but I haven't seen any in my area. And, the first time you turn them one it's impossible to stop smiling

I drove my Z to the office yesterday for the first time in at least a couple of years :driving:

Parts installed since she last ran: EPS oil gallery gaskets, SuckerPunch oil pump gears, new water pump, new thermostat, ATI damper, PS pump, CZP PS cooler, CJM oil pan, FI oil cooler, ARC coolant reservoir with catch cans, CJM solid motor mounts, Hotchkis front sway bar, SPL front endlinks and SPL FUCAs

It's probably the ZDDP, which is a very effective anti friction agent and required with 2 engines I own.

I've been running Mobil 1 and notice upper end chatter in the Z near the end of the oil's life (time-wise). I put an ester additive in during the last oil change with the same M1 oil to see if ester actually helps with valvetrain noise. If that doesn't do the trick I'm going to try Liqui Moly Ceramic next.

I used another LIqui Moly additive (lower tier than their ceramic) in a high wear diesel engine I own (not one that needs ZDDP) and it's significantly quieted.

Started the install of my new oil pressure gauge. I went with the Revel VLS.
Its pretty close to matching the stock lighting color. It’s all wired up I just need to
Run the harness down and install the sensor.
I will do that come oil change time.

Thought about Lime Creek earlier this evening, but it's been a long day so I had a drink instead. I've got a busy couple of weeks coming up, so I'm really sure when I'll have a chance. Sending you a PM.

I'm planning to sign up for the Austin Driveway driving course when I get new tires. These RE-11s are almost gone.

The Driveway is awesome! I ran there at NF 2015. Bill and Scott are super chill.

What lip is that? I just had to have my bumper replaced (wreck) and was thinking of doing something different.

sportsman2003 08-29-2020 10:06 AM

It’s the Evo-R fang cover and type II carbon front lip. I was able to get everything from the Z store. If you are going to order stuff be sure to call and check stock first.

Got new tires put on this last Friday and have a z1 poly transmission mount on the way.... also seems that the suspension needs replacing as it wasn't quite up to the task of handling the curves on the new tires and had the driver side front Shock crumple under the pressure. New brake pads are also on the menu so definitely have some projects in the near future lol
