When I've traveled to Canada for work before I've always used my GPS to give me my speed in km/h. On the drive from Windsor to Brantford I didn't have any issues. Also never had any issues with accuracy in remote areas. Only issue I've ever had with my gps is in big cities where skyscrapers, tunnels, etc. block the satellite signal.

A lot depends on the GPS unit. A good one can be very accurate, especially when averaged over a few minutes at highway speeds. If it were me, I'd run down the road at different speeds and compare to dash speedo, then just use the speedo, making corrections in my head.

GPS coverage is (usually) a lot better than cell phone.

thanks for all the feed back.
leaning toward a GPS unit with a speed tracker.

or I might just write a note of x kmh = y mph by doing some testing now
