Driving gloves were popular when sports cars had skinny steering wheels made of plastic or had wood rims. And no power steering. They had a definite function. In today's cars, you'll look like a fop.

Could it be that all you people drive hardtops and stay warm all the time?

In a roadster, your hands get cold. To suggest that some one is a fop because they like to keep their hands warm I find to be a bit....shall we say...out there?

No offense to anyone who wears them to keep their hands warm in a roadster or if you live somewhere that gets very cold or has snow. I had a pair of deerskin gloves that I wore while in the car for a few winters in Virginia before moving back to SoCal where a cold snap is 50 degrees.

Have a look sometime in the collector car section on ebay at the classic sports cars of the 1950's, '60's and '70's interiors. You will see why driving gloves were invented and popular.

It doesn't get cold in my roadster, I only have to use the seat coolers. If I used gloves then I would have to keep track of them, I can't even find the TV remote half the time.

LOL, I wore them in the 80's when it was cool to wear them. The ones that only cover half your fingers. Also protects your knuckles if you needed to get out and punch someone in the mouth. Like I said, 80's.

In 1982, I was 24 and drove a Porsche 911 Targa as my DD, gloves were helpful on cold California mornings with the top off. Fast forward, the kids are out of college, I'm in the market for a coupe. I would not wear gloves in California.

Regardless of wat people think, I think u can get away with wearing gloves in a sports car. Would look silly in a normal car though unless u don't want ur hands tanning or something, reasons unrelated to enjoying a car.

Every time I get in the car. Lined deer skin in the winter. Deer skin in the fall/spring, peccary leather in the summer. The steering wheel is a bit to slick without them.

Men don't need rough, callused hands either.

Tear a callus off sometime. Then get back to us on how men shouldn't wear gloves.
