Default Should I do a police report?

California.

Came home 5.00 pm Saturday. Noticed this at Monday morning.

Got inside the Z and found it was dug through. My guess is I left car unlocked and someone got in and stole stuff. No damages or forced entry so that's what I concluded.

Lost:
2x sunglasses (nothing more than 20 each.
1x badminton raq.
1x tennis raq(100 for the two raq.)
1x 370z manual book
All my chump change.
No damages to interior nor exterior

Soo should I file a police report or will my car be considered salvage for vandalism?

Side note. Got a blackvue dashcam in parking mode that didn't record the entry of those guys. Would never recommend blackvue again. It seems like the parking mode randomly activates sometimes, my settings are standard so that shouldn't be the problem.

You should, here's why

One they should up patrols in the area. And 2 if for someone has also got broken into in the area and maybe they know a suspect. If they catch said suspect and he's in possession of any of your belongings they can also change him with another burglary of an auto.

Don't bother. You lost what, 50 bucks worth of stuff. Probably piss the cops off having to do the paperwork. Just lock your stuff up going forward.

And when someone chimes in to get a DE .50 and put razor blades under the does handles, ignore that advice as well.

Report it. Odds are it won't do any good but your odds drop to zero if you don't report it.

There was no damage done, so the car will not become a salvage vehicle. As long as you don't file a claim, it shouldn't affect your insurance.

Well don't remember what documents I had in the car. That's what I'm worried about. I could care less about what he stole. And mannnn I never even got a chance to ever read that z manual. I'll file a report today.

What most people don't see are "trends". I think you're late now if it happened earlier, but generally when guy's work like that they go through an entire neighborhood checking doors on cars. They hit every single car that has an open door and all the open door people pay what I like to call a "Stupid tax". Filing a report alerts the assigned district unit that he has a potential stat in his area. Better yet if it keeps happening then a Tac team will be sent out to cure it. Either way a report is a "squeaky wheel" at a minimum you lower the chances that the people on your block have the same thing happening to them.

Are they going to send a crack team of detectives and an undercover detail to your street? No. But if the CID get's a couple more reports just like yours the Watch Commander will definately pull the Sergeants ear and the Sergeant is going to tell the boot working mids on your street to step up his game.

BTW: They don't need a key anymore. The thieving bastards have been what I call "EMP'ing" cars for years now. They have a handheld device that sends a code to the ECU that the vehicles been in a crash and doors unlock.

You can find the 2009 and 2010 OM PDFs by following the FSM link in my sig. Not much has changed since then. Grab the FSM while you're there.

Or go to Nissan's site and you can download OM for any year (in PDF).

Look into Street Guardian as your dash cam. Blackvue blows. Ive done extensive research on these dash cams and you cant go wrong with the Street Guardian models. Mine has saved my about $1100 (caught the dealer driving the Z rough and scratching up my CF Fast Intentions Exhaust cans).
