Default Warming car in the morning?

Hey guys, did a bit of searching and I've been getting mixed answers from everyone so I'm just gonna ask this long wondered question:

How long to wait before starting your car? My father always told me wait until the needle on the RPM's drops below 1000 RPM, then throw it into first and make your way.

My sisters fiancé told me last night that 30 seconds - 1 minute is all you need and that the car will warm up as you drive.

I'd assume car manufacturers acknowledge the fact that their cars will be driven in cold weather, and have technology to make it "okay" to wait 30 seconds and drive off.

As for what I've always done, I've waited about 5-10 minutes until the car is warmed up to my satisfaction and make my way. Any suggestions?

The only time I let my car run to warm up is for my comfort on really cold days. Not necessary for the car. Just keep the revs down for the first few miles.

In temperatures below 32, I let it idle for 30 seconds and drive it like a grandpa for the first 2 miles then its all good.

The second dot on the temp gauge is my start point, hot or cold weather. I would never just hop in my car and just drive no matter what the weather is.

I was told by mechanic that one dot the temp gauge is sufficient, but during the cold months I start the car and then go brush my teeth, kiss the wife and then away I go. By then the car is at running temp and the oil temp is starting to rise!

This. And no boost until the oil is at operating temp.

Cool. Finally getting some consistency! I usually wait till the second dot on warm days, and around the 4th or 5th dot on cold days. However today I was running a bit late and waited for the 2nd dot to light up and kept the revs low for the first few miles.

I just wait til the engine quiets up then I hit the road. Usually takes a minute or two.

As long as the temps are above freezing: Start the car, wait about 10 seconds, put it in gear and go. Drive easy until the car has warmed up - shouldn't take more than a mile or three.

When ambient temperature is below freezing, wait about a minute before driving.

I've seen some people do this. Very cringeworthy.

This. My dad always told me to wait till rpm was at 1k then start driving. Whether that's necessary or not, it's what I've been doing for the past 12 years. And I'll prob keep that mentality for life.

But the truth is a minute or so is all you need and then start driving it carefully with shifts under 3k until fully warmed up.
