Before I got my '13 Z, I test-drove both. Genesis wasn't too bad: liked the exhaust noise a lot, the price even with nav + sunroof(Z does not offer) + leather seats. The 6 spd transmission felt kinda rubbery and the styling is...either like it or hate it.
Despite of all that, I wasn't sold and still chose the Z because it has the car's history, the styling, the performance, the value and the fact that I owned Z31 and Z32 in the past. I am still happy with my decision after 2.5 years.
