I can't see a manual transmission in a sports car being a detriment to resale anytime soon (within the lifetime of a 370Z). There will always be enthusiasts who MUCH prefer an MT over an AT.

If the gobmint does manage to outlaw MTs, that will make the existing ones that much more valuable.

If someone told me they couldn't drive stick when trying to buy a man transmission I would slap them and tell them to go home.

My second car was a manual and I didn't know how to drive one when I bought it. My parents didn't have a [manual] car I could learn on so I had to take the plunge and learn after buying the car. Times have changed and most people are not being taught manual shifting like they used to be.

Lots of manual transmission propaganda in this thread.

I seriously doubt manual hurt would hurt resale value in a sports car, ever. If anything I suspect it would be the opposite, automatic would be hurt more. Mostly due to "I can't believe you bought an automatic sports car" reaction from peers.

I learned how to drive on manual and drove them for many years. I drive an automatic now. It's whatever. Manual is fun to drive, there's no denying that. Sometimes it's fun to put two hands on the wheel and just cruise (I would say put 1 hand on the babe, but not sure I'm allowed to say that here). I apologize in advance for destroying any faith in humanity or not burning excess calories while driving.

My second car was a Sentra SE-R Spec V that was a 6 speed. I had been looking all over for one that I could buy and when I finally found one that I liked, I took a friend with me who could test drive the car because I didn't know how to lol. He drove it home for me too lol. I had to learn after I got it to the house.

yah if one bought a boring sedan or stationwagon with MT, chances are you will have a hard time selling it privately.

if you bought a car guy's car in MT, you probably will not have an issue with selling MT.

Gotta love the manual fanboy support.

More ATs are sold than MTs. Playing Vegas numbers, you have a better chance of reselling and getting more for an AT over a MT.

at least for me, i have a choice AT or MT, not like some of you lame car guy wannabies who can only drive AT's.
its not so much the car or the tranny, it's the person claiming to be some car fanatic that cant drive MT's. like really drive MT's not just a to b.

The lack of a third pedal is a deal breaker for me. I went the SMG route with a BMW. Within a couple years I traded it for stick.

I started driving manuals when I was very young and have been hooked every since. I'm quite older now and got into luxury autos. But still had the urge of wanting a stick again. So I bought the Z. Of course, the Z is not my DD; the Lexus is.

I had a Lexus GS350 F-Sport with paddle shifters for a few days. I purposely tried using the paddle shifters but never could get the hang of it. To me, it took a lot more thinking to get the up shifts and down shifts right. As opposed to shifting being second nature in my manual Z...almost no thinking involved.

I do have a choice. I have an AT Z and a MT MX-5.

Those that worry about someone's transmission is the same guy that does the sideways meatgaze at the gym. C'mon folks, it's a poor man's sports car, who cares what transmission it has or the $500 resale you get either way.

Love the AT best of both worlds and don't have to worry about traffic jams. Would love manual but too much trouble at some point. So mehhhh why not have both. Paddles are just as fun.
