Stealership scratched my rim!

Hey guys, I'm basically here to vent. Yesterday I took my Nismo in for new tires (Nissan was running the buy 3 get one for $1 promo.) I took the car in nice and detailed. When it came out the lube was all over my rims so I asked if they could clean it up because, uh hello.... I just paid you 1300+ for the job, it should look clean! So they take it back and 20 minutes or so later bring it out again. The guy gets out and says thanks and walks away. Took me 2 seconds (literally) to say, "Ralph wait! What's this!?" There was a huge scratch on my driver side rear wheel as if hit by a tool. He immediately says, "Oh yea my guys told me that there was a scratch already". Bull$#!& I had JUST detailed the car the previous day and that was NOT there. Said his manager wasn't in but to call back Monday. I was not about to take it home for them to say, "How do we know you didn't do that after you left..." So I hunted down any supervisor and basically he says to take it in on Tuesday so they can "fix" it (whatever that means). If it doesn't look clean I'm going after them for another rim! I know, whish me luck on that. Phew, thanks for reading guys. Feel free to share horror stories.

How bad is the damage? Any pictures? You can actually fix scratches/dings so I wouldn't really worry about it too much.

Shít happens, 99% of wheels can be fixed.

I am sorry to hear, s*cks. Any time I take my car anywhere including/especially to Nissan, I have the Service advisor make sure he walks around the car so he see that there is no damage anywhere on the car ... once you do that, you are in better shape, plus he tells the crew you are a real pain in the a$$ which is sort of ideal for me, so they don't try to f*** w you later.

They will most likely have their wheel repair guy fix it for you, if he is good, you won't even know, they use them for their pre-owned cars to make them look good.

I feel your pain. A couple years ago Discount Tire put a small scratch on one of my Mazda 6 wheels when I was getting new tires. I noticed it when I get home and was doing a better cleaning job than they had done. I went back and showed the manager and he ordered me a new wheel from Mazda. Because of the way he handled the matter, I had no hesitation about giving him repeat business with my other vehicles. Anytime I went back I reminded him that I was the one for whom he bought the new wheel. Right away he always told the guys doing the job to be extra careful because I was picky.

Damn I guys for future reference take a pic with a news paper or so.ething that shows the date. So that way u have proof ur car was clean before. Something to think about

unless you have proof that nissan was at fault, there's really not too much you can do. even if "ralph" admitted to it, unless you got that on video/audio and/or in writing that they were at fault/willing to replace the rim, the burden of proof is on you.

on the other hand, if you complain long enough to the right people, you may be able to get a replacement rim, but this is after going through multiple different channels and levels of management.

this is exactly why i do all the maintenance work myself. when it comes to tires, i always buy an extra set of rims, go to the dealership to put on new tires, and then swap the wheels out myself at home. of course, i always take pictures of the rims at the dealership right before i give them to the mechanic so that s/he knows i have proof of the condition.

taking your car to the dealer for new tires or any work for that matter is risky.
asking them to clean up something is even riskier.

play it safe next time by only taking the wheels to the tire place that has a touchless mounter. remove all weights, center caps, and valve caps beforehand, and roll them in loose. chances are the person mounting the wheel scuffed it...and you might find even more scratches on the barrel where the old weights were..
