Crazy vs Normal

I see a lot of Z's with outlandish wheel and tire setups to the point where I just have to simply ask why? Stretching a 225-245 tire to fit on a 9.5 inch wheel is kinda the norm and a 255 on a 10.5 just had me cringing. I guess I come from an era where we buy rims to put on our cars and not a car to put on our rims. As a guy who likes to put the pedal on the floor, there is know way this can be safe and all this riding on the inside walls of the tires............. What the hell is that all about??? Camber kings or something like that??? I have an SRT8 as well and have never seen these type of setups before and it could be because the Z's generate a more youthful interest than muscle cars and this is just a trending thing right now. Anyway, I ordered some 20x10.5 with a wheels with a +25 and 285/30/20's that I want to fit on all four corners, I seen several cars running really wide up front and I'm gonna test fit these to see as I would really like this to work instead of stretching the tires and fooling around with camber kits. I'm lowered on H&R Springs and will have the wheels later this week and will find out then. There are a handful of guys with 10.5 wheels up front, but with 255, 265, but the meaty tires thread shows a lot running 285's up front, but with 18 and 19 inch wheels and a higher offset I believe. Only one way to find out, hands on for me

20's, 10.5" wide with 285 in front..... IDK about that one... I'm probably going to guess that isn't going to turn out well. Try it out and keep us updated.

I am and will update this thread as soon as I get the wheels in. Probably gonna end up doing a 265 in the front cause I've seen that done on a 10.5 in the front successfully, but I'm surely gonna try the 285 first.

i'm pretty sure 285s can be ran up front. i remember recently someone mentioning they were running 285s all 4 corners. but i believe they were on 18" wheels for autocross/track application.

the 20's height with 285s may be an issue but i'm not 100% since i havent seen/heard many if any people doing that or trying it.

i'm currently running 265/305 set-up on OEM sport rays with zero issues and loads of traction

While not Z specific, there's some guys who like to "donk" their cars in my area. I asked them this question and asked for a sincere answer. Replies were mostly the following:

* Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. They felt the setup made their cars look badass.

* To be different; show off something unusual. More extreme the display, more unlikely of encountering someone else with the same setup.

* Annoy hardcore enthusiasts. They like seeing and/or hearing people get upset about, "ruining a good car." The setup was never intended to be taken seriously and they get a real kick when someone does.

* It's just a thing. No real reason for it, other than stroke the owner's ego and build street gossip.

* Impressed the girls.

Everyone can have their own opinion but when I see a car like that I laugh.. Seriously looks awful! They took a car meant to be driven like its on rails and they ruin it with those silly rims and stances..

IDK, I had 255 on 18's, 9.5" wide and offset was +25 after a 10mm spacer and I was sitting nice and flush with camber at oem specs. I think 285's on a 10.5/20" is going to be poking out and rubbing the fender like crazy, unless he goes crazy amounts of negative camber which it sounds like he doesn't want to do.

comes down to wheel offset and how the fitment is. no idea on the exact specs of the wheels but 10.5 up front with anything but perfect offset and whatnot will poke out.

I agree with you guys on a persons personal preference, but when the question of it being functional and safe come into play, that when I just say "come on now, that's just ridiculous"
The wheels are gonna be a long shot, but for some strange reason, I thinks it's gonna work. I see post where guys are running G37's with 10.5's with +25 up front with 265 tires with zero issues and from what I understand, the z has a deeper wheel base and wider fender flares. Diego from Vossen has this setup with 265's and has no issues on his G37 along with another member who states the same and says he believes a Z will clear 285's up front with no issues in comparison to his car and the notion that Z's have a deeper wheel base. One question is this, for all the people who run 9.0's and 9.5's up front and then add a 20/25mm spacer to push the wheels out to the fender, wouldn't it be similar or equivalent to just run a wider wheel without the spacer in the first place? The numbers don't always add up to fact when it come to offsets cause I've had wheels on cars that the stats say shouldn't fit, but they do including my SRT8 that I've owned for over 7 years now with the same wheels that I was told wouldn't fit or clear the brakes. Only one true way to find out and that's exactly what I'm gonna do.
