After finally waiting over a month, the car is getting towed in the morning. I'm excited, yet nervous, to hear about the teardown. I'm expecting the worst, but hoping for the best. If the crank is salvageable, I'm doing it BIG (heads, cam, headers, throttle bodies, and tune...aka 600+whp NA).

No extended warranty. It comes with a 3yr/36k mile warranty...being that it's an '06, the warranty is long gone.

I wouldn't say it's common...but when the Gen 3 motors do have problems, it's typically the #3 rod bearing. I just hope it wasn't enough to damage the crank. After driving 35 miles home with the noise, I fear the worst

That drive home could be a $6-10k mistake, but I was exhausted after a day of drinking and celebrating a friend's wedding.

Unfortunately, it's not a warranty issue. I've read this problem happening on Gen 3 cars with as little as 10k miles on them, but there are also Gen 3 cars with 50-75k miles on them without a problem.
