What's the profile of the cams?
|
Quote:
11.5mm / 300deg. exhaust cams designed to run up to 8800rpms from what I was told, I requested 8500 rpm in the beginning. they also made a piston kit for the HR engine and another piston kit that will work with the VHR crank / HR rods. Sasha (OnPoint Dyno Originaly Sg-Motorsport.com) with his non-rev engine on the slightly less aggressive cams C10int C9ext made 372whp with ITB and around 350 without it. we are building a similar engine and that will be very interesting to see who get the most power ! since im going with the long rod setup and his will be just a normal HR engine. |
I just found a new product that isn't too expensive which will allow me to run a Twin DBW Throttle body with my next standalone ECU *ViPec V88*
because right now there is pretty much only one standalone that is compatible with more than 1 DBW . Since my budget cant afford the MOTEC unit. this new product will do just fine !! |
That's Fvckin awsome!!!!!!!!!!
|
Nice. How big are they?
|

I think those TB we saw were like 92mm |
I guess im gonna need to get the ViPec V88 sooner than I thought.... my current HR Ecu is having some hiccup, FML !!! It run 50% of the time under limp mode (2000 rpms limit). I must do a reset every time I turn it off. possible cause, melted wires up to the Throttle body.

Here I am doing another update !
Yesterday was a great day to be at the track !!! It was great to work a little bit on my friend's 350z ;) http://cscs.ca/wp-content/uploads/20...90-680x450.jpg He managed to finish first in our Class ! :) and broke my record by 1 sec ! damn him with his power/weight ratio ! heheh He has the Old SG-Motorsport (Now = www.onpointdyno.com) engine which has the JWT C10 Intake/C9 Exhaust cams there is his video then the long drive back home which takes around 3:30hours ! ;) I tuned the WOT part of the MAF Table (2.4 Volts+) after almost 1 year since I blew the engine, I could finally feel the torque again ! :) Since I had the Vq37HR installed in, the rev limiter was at 4000 rpm , now its back up to 7500rpm :excited: I missed how much torque the car had ! so in comparison from the VHR with; -stock intake/VHR intake manifold , -PPE headers -my custom headers-back exhaust, the MAF Voltage was going up to 4.3volts. (311whp) now, with only the PPE headers and everything else stock (from the intake to exhaust), the MAF Volt was going to 4.15volts and about 8% less injector duty than full VHR bolt-ons. my guesstimate is 285whp I'm hopping to invest a little bit on parts for my next exhaust before I try for some dyno pulls in September. I got to use that Tig welder of mine :D Gonna be crazy as hell ! :) |
NATS Delete setup
Hey,
I have had quite a few requests on NATS delete and its not something that should be freely done for everybody. Ive been learning a lot since I started my HR head swap and dealing with all the wiring setup that is needed to have mostly everything working as OEM. Up to now I haven't seen anybody running the OEM ECU/BCM without having the need of the Key. Weight saving is quite minimal but it should only be done for a true racecar!! Im not gonna leave my NATS delete kit installed on the car and wont be for many years if that ever happen. The reason why I came up with the kit is because Someone I know needed it. But mostly because it was a personal challenge to do it. Im 50% completed on it and I doubt going much farther because I have other stuff to do but I just wanted to prove it could be done without too much hacking. This picture show the ONLY WIRES that was used in my video. http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...delete-kit.jpg Ofcourse the NATS needs to be Disactivated in the ECU. Before someone ask why the RPM cluster doesn't work, its because it NEED the VHR ECU for the proper CAN communication, I had to removed it a little while ago because it drained my Battery everytimes, I need to install a switch for the second ECU. |
Nifty! So, I know a few more things now (it gets easier to tell what's going on when you've gutted so much of the stock wiring harnesses...). Probably the reason you don't have Nav/Radio in that scenario is that certain parts of the car (notably Nav/Radio, but I believe also things in the doors that normally don't operate when locked/off, like windows/mirrors) are powered *through* the BCM. The work you've done up there under the hood is bypassing the power control of the IPDM-ER, but not the BCM. The connector with the 3 fat wires on the BCM is where its power control function is at. The top left wire is battery input, and the other two are +12V outputs that buss to a bunch of interior things (one is "battery", one is "when ignition on", basically). I bet you'd get everything working if you also switch-bypassed across that stuff.

A small update !
After doing some street tuning for the past 2 days. I decided to do a baseline street run with my AiM Solo DL *10 satellites connected*. doing the 1/4mile performance pull. Right now the only power mod installed is the K&N square Filter and my PPE headers. A week ago I estimated the power to be at 285whp Then after doing that 1/4mile run today. It ended at 14.97sec @ 103.5mph ! one thing for sure is I need a new tranny ! It doesn't like to engage fast the 2nd & 4th gear in the high RPM Zone (6000+), also the 5th grind as I already mentioned a little while ago. Not going back on the track with it for sure ! (next year) Based on weight & time; new estimate on power is 270whp which is kind of right with what I have seen from other lightly HR engine modded. Im planning for a baseline dyno run at the end of September for the true baseline power ! ;) |
BIG UPDATE
I ******* hate Uprev now ,, its official. ******* junk piece of **** , I always said it for the past 2 years but I *we* had to deal with it anyway since it was pretty much the only user configurable software for the 370z I feel bad for you VVEL user.... Give me that ViPec V88 ! Any Shop is interested for a full exclusive car sponsorship  All I need is 5G $ !! :icon14: |
Your update didn't tell us what happened. Sorry for your troubles.

now Im running the HR ECU which has tuning capability for the Cam. right now im having a trust issue with Uprev because; Im having a big trust issue with Uprev right now, Since I swaped the HR heads into my 370z, I couldn't datalog with Cipher until I tried again today. I never had problem with the Rom Editor for logging.. so doing a test map I make sure the IDLE area is at 0deg on both Intake & Exhaust Table. I get this with the Rom Editor; Intake Bank 1 = 0 Intake Bank 2 = 0 Exhaust Bank 1 = 0 Exhaust Bank 2 = 130 If I add 10deg on both ,, the result is like this Intake Bank 1 = 10 Intake Bank 2 = 10 Exhaust Bank 1 = 10 Exhaust Bank 2 = 148 (+18 !!) Then under Cipher datalogging I get this with 0deg in IDLE area Int. & Exh Intake Bank 1 = 0 Intake Bank 2 = 0 Exhaust Bank 1 = 130 Exhaust Bank 2 = 130 if I add 10deg I get this Intake Bank 1 = 0 Intake Bank 2 = 0 Exhaust Bank 1 = 112 Exhaust Bank 2 = 111 so I cant trust anything in this. My Favor is to see what other HR owner gets please ..... edit; the engine idle fine, no DTC, doing a 1/4 mile performance run with my AiM Solo DL , I got 103.5mph which look to be alright for a lightly modded HR engine. So which one can I trust Cipher or Rom Editor. BUt I couldn't datalog with Cipher until today, I guess they fixed something recently ? edit; There was a time when Uprev wanted to ditch Cipher and rely on the ROM Editor for datalog and tuning... So im not too sure why there is a different between both datalog program... and this add a doubt in my mind... in why would one say XXX and the other one say ZZZZ |
There we go with a Positive Update ! :D
I had to replace the driver side valve cover gasket because a while ago when I was looking where the ticking was coming from. One side of the gasket moved during installation and I managed to cut it while bolting down the cover. So, today I changed it and to my big surprise, I forgot how much oil was being sucked up into the intake manifold ! I decided to install my old Oil Catch Can back ! I should have done this when I put the engine back in.... once this was one done, I started to mesure and investigate for my future single exit exhaust ! ;) and I discovered that we might be able to use one of the 350z subframe bracket. On the same location of the 370z frame, there is 2 pre-threaded location that could be bolted to the 350z subframe bracket. Anyway Im removing that raised part of our 370z and will be making a similar 350z bracket to allow me to have a proper center single exit exhaust  http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...350z-under.jpg |
I think you're going to have to rebadge this car as a 360Z at this point :)
|
Yea, split the difference between the 350 and 370.
|
The first few exhaust items has been ordered thru Burns Stainless
Its gonna be an expensive setup ! :icon14: The list is about 2500$ in parts alone ! From the modified Momentum header to the muffler After some drawing and measurement under the car. The plan is having an Y-Pipe with removable part similar to the Motordyne XYZ but in reverse. I will have the choice to install either 2x HFC or 2x Resonator into the Y-Pipe. the Y-Pipe collector is gonna be quite special, I promess! all equipped with V-Bands ( 8 in total ) So, the choice is; 2x Resonator or 2x HFC in ( 2.5'' ) 1x Resonator 3.5'' 1x Muffler 3.5'' |
I received some goodies !!
http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...821-184539.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...821-185056.jpg |
Finding the right angle !
I'm getting the cut done for the Y-Pipe but I cant do more until pay-day ! I need to buy a second manometer regulator for the back purging... My order from Burns Stainless will arrive on Tuesday ! :) which include some transition and megaphone. http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...g-vs-30deg.jpg |
You got yourself a project there. LOL I take it that you are using argon gas for purging. When purging the tubing. You can use painters blue tape around the joints that need to be sealed. Put your purge line in the lowest point, and let it vent out at the highest point. ;)
|
Some cutting, sanding, swearing.....
It is not an easy task if you never done it ! Well today it was my first ! after a few hours this is where the Y-pipe sit at . I wanted a edit: Deleted Secret matter from my Angle Table. There is only 4 tacks holding it and I will be waiting for Payday to get that second regulator for back purging then I'm gonna cut it at the proper length. http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...825-181106.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...825-191936.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...825-192003.jpg Btw I got the quote on the complete kit of Cams/Pistons/Rings/springs setup. Its a bit more than I expected *3600$shipped/tax/custom Included* This is why I ended getting the exhaust parts *2500$* first while its still warm outside, and that engine will get pulled out during the winter as what the plan is now I cant really bring the Tig Welder at the garage since I might pop the 10-15amp breaker and it could take days before I get the power back (slow administration) |
my last exhaust parts order came in today ! :yum:
From Burns stainless; edit: Deleted Secret matter ------------------------------------------ http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...nce-effect.jpg Modified V-Band flange 2.5'' & 3.5'' The one on the bottom right one is for showing the difference. Inside Taper cut (10deg) for a smoother transition going out of the Resonator & HFC for a reduced turbulence effect. Because every exhaust component (resonator/HFC/muffler) are measured for an ID diameter of 2.5'' & 3.5'' which the V-Band are for a 2.5'' OD tubing , If I wouldn't have done a taper cut, there would be a lip of 1/16 all around the Inside and causing turbulence for a straight reduced diameter. Every Tweaking count ! Now, I'm waiting on my dual regulator for my Tig welder. It should be here in about a week ! |
Ready for Tig Welding !!! after like 8 hours of work.... *my first one*
http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...-first-one.jpg |
First one? First of the many you're going to make for the rest of us? :)
|

I calculated the cost and time it could take me for a second one and the price would be out of reach of most can afford. 400-450$ for what is shown on the picture without the modified V-Band. +125$ with. Could be lower if I had proper tools !!!!!!! My exhaust setup will be different than OEM. Not sure how much of a gain there is with a single 3.5'' exhaust on the VVEL engine. EDIT; dual 2.5'' = 8.823 sq. Inch ID single 3.5'' = 8.9197 sq. Inch ID So almost the same possible flow The throat measurement on my Y-Pipe is edit: Deleted Secret matter |
I'm quite a ways off from messing with my exhaust further, but I imagine mine will eventually be a single as well, someday. I think it would weigh less, and it would be easier to do a rear diffuser. Maybe move the rearmost section and the exit way up high to clear the diffuser completely.
For now I'm happy with my FI catback, although it's getting a little worse for wear (I've banged up the cans spinning out over tall kerbing...). |

I will make sure to keep a record on every bent and cut I will do. Tonight I decided to ditch the idea of cutting into my Momentum for the possible idea of making a copy of my exhaust if someone want to get the same. this way its gonna be easier to repeat the same process. Just a reminder in case you could be interested in the future, This part would have to be modified to look like the one on the 350z. http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...350z-under.jpg |
Another Update !
The passenger side is almost completed, only waiting to be Tig Welded :ughdance: I know in the pass my intent was to modify the Momentum. I also want to make a medium length header within the next year. The decision was I wont bother too much with the Momentum. I will only add the transition directly on the flange and call it a day. http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...enger-side.jpg The resonator is actually pointing toward the Y-pipe a little bit without interfering with the transmission bracket, this is why its not contacting the X-pipe completely which is properly aligned with the driver side. I also gained about 1/2'' to 3/4'' of ground clearance. Yes, I tested it on the car already http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...river-side.jpg |
Guess what ?
Am I doing another update on the same day ? Yup.:rofl2: After some measurement checking this morning with the passenger side, I jumped on the driver side ! I forgot how pain in the *** it was to remove the PPE LTH on the driver side. Im not looking forward to install it back tomorrow night. On the good note, it took me a bit less time to make the driver side tubing setup than it was with the passenger side. OEM header/Cats Vs PPE Stepped Long Tube Header Vs Momentum/Shorty Test Pipe http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...-test-pipe.jpg Custom exhaust 2013 Passenger Side completed , waiting to be Tig Welded http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...tig-welded.jpg Custom exhaust 2013 Driver Side completed , waiting to be Tig Welded http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...tig-welded.jpg Seem like that I'm glad I kept the Blown VVEL engine http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...vel-engine.jpg So far I've done 16 hours on these and 8 hours on the Y-Pipe. !! This include everything , not just cutting the tubing, but also the labour required to remove the headers/shorty test pipe back and forth, some break time. |
Eyegasm! Def love your build!
|
2 hours later the second resonator is now completed !
as you can see now, the flow path will be a bit shorter than it was with the X-Pipe and quite a bit shorter than the OEM Y-pipe. http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...han-x-pipe.jpg |
Exhaust Update
I just finish welding the Shorty Test Pipes and Y-Pipe this morning!
Last weekend, after finishing tacking the Y-Pipe Ver.1 I discovered the clearance between the end of it and the driveshaft was a little bit too close *1/2''* If I wanted to keep a better ground clearance at the same time. I had to modify 2 bents and shortening a pipe to allow having the exit end of the Y-Pipe to be a little bit offset from the center going toward the right side of car. Its been7 Years I haven't really welded anything serious other than minor stuff at work for like 15 sec welding time on aluminum/steel. Welding Stainless has been since 10 years I haven't touch it but I knew the basic. http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...907-121955.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...907-122010.jpg |
Looks real good!!!!!!!!:tiphat:
|
thats some awesome work right there
|
Custom sub-frame bracket
As a few already knows, about what my intent was with my custom exhaust. Its to have a single exit and I mentioned that I would have to make a bracket that would be similar to the 350z .
After some thought, I made something else that would do the same and less work. This will still allow me to have enough clearance for the straight thru muffler ! this is the final product, the baby blue is only what I could find a while ago ;( Edit; the two outer nuts are only a spacer welded to the square tubing since I didn't had a shorter bolts there is the same threaded hole into the frame where the 350z bracket would go. then the 2 center one has an actual bolt welded with a slightly bigger nut also welded to act as a spacer. http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...re-exhaust.jpg Once installed, does anybody can see what happen ? hehe http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...re-exhaust.jpg Custom Sub-frame bracket had to be made for the future exhaust ! http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...dea-behind.jpg You see the idea behind this ? ;) http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...dea-behind.jpg |
I wanted to do this and have it exit the fog light space in my Amuse bumper but I couldn't find someone to make a nice finisher for the exhaust.
Good job, looking forward to seeing the project finished. |
very interesting.....
I would love to see the final product:tiphat: Innovation seems to running strong on this forum eY GaleForce  |
dats freaking awesome
