Megan Journal
Update 29 March 2014 ; Sorry there is some post that are missing pictures because Im running out of space and I removed the less important ones or the very old one ..
Its been a long time that I was thinking to show my Z progession on this forum. I think, this is the time ! I first bought my 370z on 1st December 2009 , I was able to get a good deal since the 2010 was already out ! I didnt bother with the sport model and I went with the Base model + Nav. Here is Canada our base model is the equivalent of the Touring in the US. This is one of the first picture ! http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...-25mm-rear.jpg The first winter with the new Z was the most expensive ! then the second year was more focused on NA power mod ! Im not gonna name everything that I did but with the picture below it will show the most important mod being done and dated. http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...33456490-1.jpg my early focus in 2012 was to finaly get some aero which started with a DIY front splitter made of a 10mm Alumacoor sheet , I was unable to get Alumalite at a fair price . http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...0225021531.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...0228021625.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...2-img-1720.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...2-img-1726.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...3-img-1728.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...4-img-1729.jpg and then I found the first wing I wanted for the 370z . The kognition wing that MikeBonanni had. I almost went with the APR Gtc300 from Scott @ FontanaNissan which had the best deal on here !! but I couldnt let go of the Kognition. http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...4-img-1735.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...5-img-1736.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...6-img-1738.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...7-img-1739.jpg Im gonna describe some of the custom mods that I did since the beginning. I first started at 256whp on a cold day fully stock on a dynapack @ SG-Motorsport.com which are now closed and finished at 324whp in November in about the same weather as what it was on my first baseline. The CAI was made by Rawtek Inc. in Montreal,Canada start at 3'' at the filter then the reducer goes down to 63.5mm for the MAF then back up to 2 3/4'' to the Throttlebody. http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...8-img-1394.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...4-img-1685.jpg Then later on I bored out both of my Throttle body to 62.5mm from 60mm Stock. *almost finished TB* http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...ure42412-a.jpg I also did a copy myself of the M370 from Motordyne . Since I had an HR engine as a spare from my old 2007 350z that I didnt longer had. I used the HR intake manifold and started to modify it like Motordyne did and did my best to port mach the lower intake All of the picture can be found in my Album http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...1251942000.jpg Then the next step is the Header !! I first started in 2009/2010 with the Stillen Header and Berk HFC then went with the new PPE Long step headers http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...0703012128.jpg Let me tell you guys that the DIY install was a pain in the A$$ !!!! it took me about a week to have it done. If it wouldnt have been because of that damn rounded nut , It could have took about 8-10hours in total ! but ended to around 24 ! Everything was done in my parking lot at the time during my vacation !!! I was piss and missed my dyno appointement. http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...703011634a.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...0705011544.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...705011559a.jpg I finaly used a flexible dremel extension and partialy cut the nut. !!! oh and good luck if you 6MT guy want to do it yourself ! I had to remove a bracket that is use for your cluth oil line. , the header didnt want to go in , it had to be removed. the next step after my PPE is a custom X-pipe , again made by Rawtek Inc in Montreal, Canada http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...5201122000.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...de-catback.jpg they did a very good job on everything up to now and I even plan to have my next single exhaust made by them from my specification. they also did my custom prototype muffler that was allowing me to meet the noise decibel requirement with flying color !! http://rawtekinc.com/Daniel's%20Niss...0370Z%2017.JPG I have many video on Youtube that can be watched here Plan for 2012 is gonna be a bit limited to about 6-7 track days and 3 Time attack of CSCS.ca at Cayuga,Ontario. |
Great build and love the custom mods, keep it up
|
Nice custom mods that you have done on your Z. Please keep us posted.
|
Nice work Dan,
The fact that you are standing on that splitter means its truly strong and functional! |
its very nice to see a Z being modified functionally! keep up the great work!
|
good stuff http://serve.mysmiley.net/party/party0031.gif , keep up the good work!

To day I send 2 hours on the dyno to test 2 mods that I did in 2011.
Normaly I always do a dyno session after any power mod but since last year I was plaged with the ECU pulling timing and not knowing it untill I blew the tranny on the drag strip. The flywheel was badly cracked, which we think it was affecting the knock sensor to not be happy thus pulling timing ! It was difficult to have much of any consistense pull after pull but since the flywheel got replaced, I do not have any problem with that ! Soo today was to confirm 2 mods. 1= HR vs VHR intake manifold (you can see my picture when I did the conversion) http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...e-manifold.jpg - 2= Throttle Body OEM stock @ 60mm VS bored at 62.5mm The AFR were ajusted before the recording pull. http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...ottle-body.jpg |
First track day in 2012 since my last one around August 2011.
Im getting ready for the first CSCS.ca event on June 3rd which mean I had to give a good shakedown to my new setup ! http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...-track-day.jpg Ofcourse the car had some problems - loose front holding bolt on the Diff (I swaped another diff 2 weeks ago) - Engine Oil overheating (even with a 11''x11'' oil cooler I hit 135 Celcius !!!) - some slapping noise during a turn (I discovered my exhaust is hitting the rear useless V bar ) because I snaped one of the bolt on the left side exhaust bracket last week , it didnt make any noise untill I hit the track ! so there we go with the Video ! |
God that looks like ****

Good thing about journals is that people can give opinions, u are posting stuff public. Can't take it with a grain of salt. Don't post :ugh2: What else do u have planned? |
Just out of curiosity: I don't remember what thread but I read pretty much All the wings have not been tested for the 370z As far as adding downforce and how much drag they create. Same with the splitter. Any particular reason for that wing?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using Tapatalk 2 |
OP - Make your own functional parts, buy only what's necessary and buy it for the right reasons, then put it all together in a parking lot. I like your style.

This wing element was CFD tested and track tested and developed on my 370Z. We went through two versions during testing to come up with this final version. This is the same wing element (different mounts obviously) that is used on many of the top USA time attack cars like GST Motorsports Impreza, Professional Awesome Evo, etc. So although this wing wasn't wind tunnel tested on a 370Z (none of them are), this is probably as close as it gets to a wing made for the 370Z since it was tested and developed on one. The CFD testing is basically a computer generated wind tunnel simulation. The wing profile is based off of a 2008 Williams F1 car wing modified to work better on a street car. CFD data shows that at just 6 degrees angle of attack at 100mph the wing makes 237.5 lbs of downforce and just 19.9 lbs of drag which is estimated to be the equivalent of being down just 5.3 horsepower. So you can see that this wing has a very good ratio of drag to downforce. The CFD testing simulates what the wing produces in clean air, so it probably doesn't do those exact numbers on the 370Z but we designed the wing to sit right at the roofline of the 370Z so the wing is pretty close to being in clean air. Furthermore this wing has a 68" span so a good part of each end of the wing is actually in clean air. The first version we tested was this same wing profile, same size, same everything except it was made to be as light as possible using as little material as possible. The first lap at speed, at around 125mph the ends of the wing that were in clean air broke off because of the downforce. Literally folded down to where the end plates hit my tail lights. Version two added lightweight lateral support beams through the length of the wing that fixed the problem. You can now stand on the wing without it even flexing. So thats why he chose the Kognition wing. Unfortunately, since so many people on here are all about form and don't care about function, he didn't sell a single one so he got rid of the molds to make the mounts for the 370Z specifically. You can still buy the wing element itself, but anyone that wants one is going to have to get their own mounts made. I am bummed that I sold it in the first place seeing as I ended up keeping my Z, but glad to see that it has gone onto a car that wants it for the right reasons! |

a 2D wing work best when it is positionned directly into the air path , the GTC300 being a 3D wing would work better if its closer to the trunk. so anyway, someone was selling it relatively cheap and I took it. does it work ? yup as for the splitter well I do not need a scientific to tell me that it does work. Quote:
can you sponsor me and I will be glad to use your product if I feel that they are worth it. my project in developpment isnt a nice parts ! but custom stuff that I do myself ! ( bigger throttle body and modded 350z HR intake manifold & a new custom shorter CAI ) which will require a different radiator. |

No problem, I really appreciate your opinion and experiences in that matter ! I love the wing and it will give me an edge this weekend :) CSCS.ca ( time attack @ Cayuga *TMP* ) |

CSCS 2012 Season Opener at Cayuga *TMP*
last sunday was the big CSCS 2012 Season Opener and I was there !
There was some rain but everything went relatively well. THe track being a little bit wet at times which didnt discourage me to try even harder to get the best time ! The event used for the first time a Live timing for the lapping and time attack. Overall I ended to be the 10th fastest of the day ! powered by LiveTiming.net A week ago I went to that same track, a shakedown was needed for Megan ! She had some old RS3 which managed to do 1:20.9. A very respectable time for the car ! Then our lapping session during the big day using a new old set of RE-11 (5000+- kms and 150+-kms on the track) I was only able to get into the high 1:21 at best !! I was quite dissapointed !!! how it work with CSCS time attack is we get 1 warm lap then 3 timed lap and finish with the colddown. I screwed up the first lap but it wasnt my goal to have anything good in the first timed lap because during that day with those RE-11 the best lap was pretty much the 3-4th lap then quickly gets worst!!! winner lap time was ; 1:21.394 at .652 faster than the 2sd place. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...gp_amf-181.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...-Track-050.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...39200201_n.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...43399626_n.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...71089179_n.jpg |
Nice work!
|
You're awesome!
Keep up the great work! Kids and rich people here do not understand what hard work and dedication means. Hope you have a great season, weathers starting to get warmer! Btw, your youtube videos led me here lol! +1 for repping our site! |
I installed my second oil cooler last week which should help with the oil overheating on the track !
it took much longer than I expected and I was quite lucky with the tubbing ! some relocation and a spare 10AN tubbing that was almost the perfect lenght ! about 1/2 inch too short but it was alright. I couldnt install my alternator lightweight pulley (its been 2 years !) because even after removing the alternator and trying to remove the 24mm nut ... It was a complete fail ! An impact is needed for this !!! maybe later this week I should have enough time to try again and bring it at the shop ! http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...5-img-1749.jpg My 2012 budget is my limit and I couldnt go with a more efficient oil cooler ( setrab) so maybe next year I might get a big one instead of those 2 cheap one ! next, I had to do an alignment. (DIY) Since 2 year ago the car hit a wall , the shop who did the repair didnt do it properly so the car never ran straight (1-2% off because even with an aftermarket Toe-bolt that provide more adjusmtent , I was 3/32 off ! so the front wheel had to cheat ! its all fixed as I did a new toe plate !! ;) the car finaly has a proper alignment !!! :) next , I finaly got my hand of a set of wheel that I wanted for the pass 3 years !!! Enkei RPF1. some might say they doesnt look good on the 370z . but I do not care because of this 4 reasons - Used wheels which mean cheaper to buy ! - LIGHTWEIGHT !!! - TRACK WHEELS ONLY - Stronger wheel than my Rota to handle those very sticky tire ! all four of them are 9.5''x18'' +15 offset with 275-35-18 Toyo RA-1 (not on this picture which are uned 245-40-18) I didnt had time to test them with the new rubber on untill I was at the track and ready to try the new set. I had to roll my front fender a little bit ! http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...6-img-1750.jpg soo.. GOOD NEWS !!! they do fit over the 6-pistons AP Racing BBK next , I finaly decided to call Stillen to get 2 new bleeding fitting on my rear left this picture tell everthing ! http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...705021710b.jpg Last , after all of the track prep required I had a track day at Shannonville (ontario , Canada) which is a 4.03km road course an affordable track to have fun ! :) Last year I was able to do 2;04 with my previous Hankook RS-3 with the twin oil cooler and a 10'' fan the temp was in average of 115 C. a cool down lap was bringing the temp down to easily 95 C before I attempt some fast lap. the video show a test with both set of tire RE-11 Vs RA-1 |
How was the oil pressure drop using two coolers?
|
Quote:
but I understand your point of view unfortunatly my oil pressure gauge doesnt receive any power right now because I had to use its on/off swith to power my Fan on the oil cooler. im gonna look at it sometime this week !!! |
next on the must buy list is
- surge gas tank or anything that will prevent fuel starvation !!! - I heard some people were able to get their hand on a complete suspension bushing kit. im looking for this and where !!!! - a true LSD as I still have a vlsd |
Dude you are my hero.. I love your mods.
I am extremely intrusted in boring out the throttle bodies to 62.3 mm. Wondering how you came up with that number. Did you use different injectors or stay stock. Keep it coming brother.. Nice!! :driving: |
Wow, your car revs FAST!
|
Quote:
and the MAF is at 63.5mm At the time when I asked the shop to make them to my specification , it was after some reseach and mesurement of different thing and mostly to go with my exhaust at that time. but it doesnt stop there at all ,, I have a whole new project on the go which should be completed by the end of the summer/falls. Go Big or Go Home thats all what im saying right now. gain ? i always over-estimate my gain but im looking for another 15whp more with the new setup. Quote:
thank you  :) |
Quote:
no im still on the stock injector but I almost went with a 440c set a few months back. I was hitting between 95-97% injector duty but I found out why ... it was because the weather was very cold and I was actualy running 11.5afr at wot when im supose to be at 12.7 once I dialed the AFR in cold weather the injector duty came down a little bit to a safer level but still in the range where we should start looking for an upgrade at 85-88% I say next year I will need to upgrade them, the funny part is that im still NA ;) |
You are quite an ingenious and daring individual. Hats off for the custom work and congrats for the 1st place, very well deserved Dan. Keep it up boss!!

Great thread and I love what you've done with the car. Are you not running the front bumper beam? If not how does the bumper stay on?

nice build man!

today was the day that I had to go a step farther in my project !
it started early in the morning after a few coffee then I decided to get to work on Megan ! the first thing was to start removing most of the front end which became a second nature as it doesnt take me much time now. http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...1-img-1789.jpg I also did some cable cleanup & cutting. which is now much better than it was. The fan that I installed not long ago was moved to the other bigger oil cooler in the hope it will help a little bit more . http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...-fan-setup.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...2-img-1790.jpg and then the AC really wanted to get out as its too hot in the engine bay !!! http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...no-more-ac.jpg so everything AC related item under the hood came to 18 lbs (compressor & tubing) http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...under-hood.jpg and then at the end of the day I decided to balance the weight that Megan lost in the front. some stuff got removed behind the seat ! for a total of 45 lbs , most the trunk was already removed to aloud to bring everything I needed to the track http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...4-img-1792.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...5-img-1794.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...6-img-1796.jpg |
