nice to see some progress! Thank the Lord for military leave....
|
Guess I know who to call when I want to build a motor.
Good job! |
Did you ever do any before and after testing of your TB's? I'm curious to know how much of a difference that would make on the streets during WOT with supporting mods

I have a dynosheet of the last time that I tested it duing my Dyno Day test in my Picture Album I remember that day I did test the HR intake manifold VS VHR intake manifold & Oem TB Vs my custom TB. Quote:
the problem with this is what if I mess up your engine by mistake. ;( This is my first time working like this on an engine Im gonna have to see if my engine will hold or blow !!! hehe |

I spend the morning doing some port match on the intake runner / lower intake manifold
With all the time spent on this , I hope the result will be worth it !! this picture is to show the unmodified intake runner you can also see a little bit the lower part of the intake manifold arent alligned perfectly with the actual intake runner http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...xt-picture.jpg do I need to explain how bad this is ? I hope those Nissan engineer didnt do this on purpose !. http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...not-really.jpg after some dremel work ! http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...uch-better.jpg This VHR intake manifold, you guys will see it back sometimes next year ! Its still under construction but not a priority right now. |
I checked out your dyno sheets that you posted and you gained 7hp from just boring out your TB's correct? Or was that combined with your ported manifold? My question is what other mods did you have on the car when you had it dynoed with JUST the ported TB's. I would just like to know the gains of those without any other mods. Also, is there any better throttle response from doing that, that you have noticed? Thanks for your replies

Custom straight flow exhaust w/ Xpipe PPE step header custom CAI (similar to the stillen V3) but it was also seen when I had the stillen shorty + test pipe over a year ago. the gain has been seen on both intake manifold my first attemp to port the HR manifold was only to smooth the edge of inside the intake runner when they glue the base to the intake manifold. the VHR was modified yesterday. as far as throttle response , my answer would be it was unchanged. |
I havent done much today but I decided to go check the blown VHR head and its VVEL cams.
then the last picture show the VHR Vs HR valve spring and size. pictures are worth a thousand words. look at the far left VVEL cam and finger,, then compare it to the 2 others .. you will see what is missing or broken ... I couldnt find anything related to it , which mean it was totally disintegrated http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...integrated.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...integrated.jpg VHR Vs HR spring & size. http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...pring-size.jpg |

those that I had with my spare HR engine which where modified and the un modified VHR TB that were also used yeah those test was done back to back , same day , within an hour with a previously tuned map for each component for a proper AFR I also went on the dyno after every mods to be certain that was giving power... |
Did you ever get to finish the 70mm diameter TBs? Any dynos on those?
Are you gonna dyno The bored intake manifold? Is that the stock one or the HR? Youre doing projects I always wanted to do. |
Quote:
aww ,, who told you that about those 70mm TB ? Im sure I havent mentionned it anywhere online but to a few select guys.. oh welll.. no I didnt finish the modification on that VHR intake manifold with twin 70mm only 1 side was completed and then I blew my engine at a Time attack in August.. so the project is on hold for now but as soon as everthing goes a bit better , that project will re-start. Quote:
the VHR is the big project which is on hold. but once completed/tuned then a dyno test vs my Modded HR Int. manifold the dynojet where I went a few time will be pretty much my only reference VS what I was getting on the VHR last year. which was 330whp STD./321whp SAE stay tuned! |
Any Updates?

hi :)
awesome thread!!!! really appreciate the time and 'risk factors' you are taking with your zed. Very brave to be doing all your labour etc - but very functional and creative. I saw a forum member who likes to pop up and give negative critisms - your wing is fine :) does the job it is intended to do. Some rep points in order to you sir!! |

I went away to see some family members and now Ive been sick since I got back. !! I managed to order some part for the 6MT conversion - JWT flywheel/ clutch - HD CSC - Wilwood Clutch master cylinder - RJM clutch pedal assembly Once I receive everything Im gonna be able to install the engine/tranny I expect of doing this around the beginning of February. Awesome! Great job!

Im getting anxious to get the car running again !
This is the last developpement of today ! I had a couple days off to work on the project again, Getting the short block out of my basement wasnt a little task as its weighted at 156lbs ! I was glad I didnt installed the flywheel !! the Head are now installed on the block ! :) but only with the tiny HR cams as I couldnt afford the big cams right now because I had to get a bunch of other stuff ! so probably around Fall 2013 they should be in, unless something bad happen ! http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...ams-vq37hr.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...ams-vq37hr.jpg |
I like what ur doing but is this just an engine stock rebuild? Are you just rebuilding it just to get it running again? Just wondering that's all
|
Quote:
but since there is a lot of stuff that I must get first. the budget for the big cams / spring and pistons setup has to wait for a little while remember the car had the 7AT and now a 6MT conversion is in progress which I need every parts for the clutch, including flywheel/clutch itself Im also doing an ABS delete , then new oil cooler had to be bought again then there is an Accumulator incomming soon. so forgive me if the rebuilt right now is just only a stock (stroked) HR engine ;) but, there is also a but. I already done the head clearancing for the future cams , so it should be quicker once I can order them. |
|
Megan370z, since you have the HR heads installed, how do you plan to keep the ECU happy? Are you switching to a 350z ECU? Also, any specific reason you decided to switch to a 6mt?
|
Quote:
I got the power connected on the HR ECU to get the ROM for the future tune. Im almost done re-assembling the engine, tomorrow is the timing chain and closing the front plate ! :) Once this is done, I will focus my time to fully connect the HR ECU to the 370z wiring and keeping everything. I got about 75% figured out. as far as why Im switching to the 6MT instead of that 7AT there is a lot of reasons why I must do the switch ! - reliability - performance - weight - cost -reliability; the 7at overheat quite easily if there isnt an oil cooler installed, I had one since 2010. -Performance; dont get me wrong, the 7AT is a very nice tranny that I enjoyed very much but now since Im asking the car much more than just lapping for fun . the 7AT is too slow react on time , downshifting/upshifting right before a corner or after. It also doesnt have enough direct feel from the engine. -weight; it weight more than the 6MT ! -cost; replacing the 7AT is very expensive and that flex flywheel break to easily for me ! after not even 15 000km (98% of highway driving. 2% track) it already broken at 2 spots having a broken flex plate, the knock sensor can become annoyed by the vibrating noise and can/will pull timing! it happenned to me for almost a complete year where nobody could explain this. http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...15-000-kms.jpg |
Almost finish to re-assemble the engine !!!
its my first time doing that kind of job to un-assemble both engine to make a good one ! I cant believe how much time I spend on this !!!! I saved a few K on labour, thats for sure ! There is still some details to work on but this is mostly this VHR parts ; - Crank - Connecting Rods - lower Intake Manifold - fuel rail - injector - coil packs (not yet installed but will be soon !) - spark plug HR parts ; - Block - Head w/ oem Cams - Pistons - intake plenum Throttle body are gonna remain the two I had 62.5mm vs 60mm stock. then the rest is a surprise !:stirthepot: http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...ost-finish.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...head-block.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...7-img-1876.jpg |

I couldnt find my previous work on that. thanks to the wife..... :stirthepot: |
News !
I got some goodies delivered to my door today while I was still working on the HR/VHR engine wiring harness It is NOT an easy job !!! but im getting there slowly ! Im at about 18 hours of work since I started from the beginning on the wiring harness. I wish I could have found my cheat cheet ! http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...4-img-1886.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...5-img-1887.jpg |
more good news !!:happydance:
After about 3 straight working days on the HR engine harness (28hours). I completed the Version # 1 !!!! I estimate 85% chance of being able to start the engine !! hhehe then I decided to take another picture of my goodies I received a little while ago. http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...ge-cluster.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...ure62042-a.jpg |
Will Megan's hearth beat this weekend ? I hope soo !!! She is getting an Hearth Transplant on Saturday.
wish us luck. |
Good luck!

There is still quite a lot of work to do
But the main Biggest headache is completed !!!! Yeah me ! |
Good job! Congrats!

awesome!

the engine was only installed with the PPE header !!! no catback !! on a side note , it was probably very rich by the smell it had !! a lot of tuning has to be done since I installed the VHR injector but the base injector setup is only a copy/paste from the old setup. on the first startup, I decided to just put the OEM intake setup because of the unknown base tune since there was NO AFR sensor installed either. I discovered once everything was installed that my VHR AFR sensor had a different plug than the HR one.... it was only running off from the MAF http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...6-img-1901.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...7-img-1902.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/megan...8-img-1908.jpg |
small Update !
soo let recap what happen the last time I worked on the car. I had the wiring setup done after 30++ hours then I went ahead to see if the engine would fire up ! which it did but what I didnt mentioned was I completly overlook some very important part of the setup !! Remember the car had an automatic, so this time the car is receiving an 6MT which I had to buy a bunch of stuff !! - Flywheel - clutch - HD CSC - clutch master cylinder - RJM clutch pedal assembly but what was forgotten was the clutch bolts !!!! I had to go thru the dealership to get those . after a week of waiting I decided today to pull the engine out again to do the switch of those bolt since I had some temporaly bolts for the engine fire-up test While I was waiting for those parts (9x bolts + washer and 6 L of 6MT fluid.) I started a new project that will be quite different from anything I have seen on the 370z ! who can guess what it might be ! let just say its under the hood and no . no FI |
Im going to guess ITB?
does the right guess win a prize!!?? |
