There are some distinct differences even though the architecture is very very very similar. The PS4 chip looks more like what AMD is selling now, but no specs have been discussed with regards to speeds, gpu cores, etc. Having GDDR5 may not make it any faster, but it does help with bandwidth. With DDR5 having a quad multiplier instead a dual multiplier like DDR3, it's bus sizes can be half the size as DDR3 and match bandwidth, or can have the same size memory bus and have twice the bandwidth (given same base clock speeds). If the game is memory intensive, GDDR5 will definitely be an advantage. Xbox does have ESRAM though. This is basically a $hit ton of shared L4 cache for use between the CPU and GPU. It allows 50gbps+ speeds between the cpu and gpu to share. This lets both the CPU and GPU to look at what needs processed and share the load. For instance, if the GPU is being taxed and AI or physics needs processed, the CPU can pull that and execute it for the GPU. Not only that but it works just as memory would on a normal graphics card. What I don't know is how much ESRAM they have. (Read this review of Intels new processor for a very good idea of what ES ram does as it has something similar too Anandtech Haswell 5200 review) Keep in mind both are using AMD architecture for both the CPU and GPU. This will definitely help optimize games for both consoles as well as PC games very easily and quickly as they are all X86 based.

Still am confused why console hardware can't be upgraded with future tech from AMD. Similar to what the N64 did with that additional memory pack or whatever that was in order to play the more memory intensive games.

I agree with the importance of the 4K support, although we'll have to wait for 4K games to come out. By that time, PS4 may come out with a refresh version (similar to PS3 Slim) that supports 4K? Who knows.

No way MS is getting my money. It is way too intrusive for me just to play video games. Nothing in my house is anywhere near as intrusive as that machine except for my phone and computer. And have full control over them to config and lock them down how I want. No way to do that with the Xbone.

As far as which console is better? Don't even bother trying to figure out specs, its the library of games that matters. Most developers create a version that runs on both with no differences. It is rare that a developer will take the time to put in art assets or programming effort to make a game look 3% better. It is not cost effective.

Nice write up and is kind of what I was getting at. The PS4 has the potential for better graphics will we see it? Doubtful, will it run a little smoother? Probably but not to a degree we can see physically.

Haha sorry trying to get all the tech geek info out too. I guess what I was getting at with all that info is...that there is more than one way to skin a cat. Both systems are going to get in done remarkably well just in a little different manner.

For me my choice is for the best in online gaming experience putting everything else aside. That is what im trying to figure out with the previous generation systems it was the 360 hands down. The only reason Sony caught up in sales was because of the online gaming being free. Well thats over now.

I am trying very hard to find numbers for the PS4 on those lines but they have not released any info. It is really starting to bother me that they are being so tight liped. Microsoft may be saying things people dont want to hear but at least they have the balls to do it.

This day and age the only way to stay away from big brother is being off the grid. The fact you even post on this forum ruins that, you have been logged not matter what you do to your personal system/network. We could go way off topic with that, but I just had to say those couple words

No question, but my issue is the degree of importance. I find it ridiculous that an entertainment system for something as trivial as video games has elements of DRM, lockdown on ownership of items we buy, information reporting, and general inconvenience just to play a damn game.

When entertainment has elements and issues that I have to "just deal with" or overcome so I can have fun, it puts a damper on things. We don't even own the games we buy. I can't go to my buddy's house to show off my new game without having to jump through hoops. I can't lend it to him if I wanted to, I can't resell it if I want, I can't even give it to my girlfriend's little brother after I am done with it and collecting dust.

So if my internet connection is down for 2 or 3 days for some dumb reason, I'm SOL to play my $60 single player games on my $400 console?

I think it is complete arrogance on MS's part. And I have choice of whether or not to buy it.

Sorry to rant and it wasn't really directed to you Mr&Mrs.

That's exactly what it is, especially in their handling of the backlash. Telling an E3 reporter that if people can't get internet they can buy a 360? Wow. Just when they had taken a significant market share from Sony in the last generation of the console wars, they go and give it right back.

Yep and the biggest problem now is any kind of recovery attempt just looks like them indirectly admitting some kind of fault. Which I think will make things worse.

I seem to have found a privacy statement from Microsoft on the Kinect but I can not get on their website from work to check it out. I pulled this little bit of info for my previous question about two being in the same room. You are in control of when Kinect sensing is On, Off or Paused: If you don’t want the Kinect sensor on while playing games or enjoying your entertainment, you can pause Kinect. To turn off your Xbox One, just say “Xbox Off.” When the system is off, it’s only listening for the single voice command -- “Xbox On,” and you can even turn that feature off too. Some apps and games may require Kinect functionality to operate, so you’ll need to turn it back on for these experiences.

There was alot more info on the Kinect and Privacy but im waiting until I can confirm it from a legit source before I post it all.

Oh perfect for you then! You can just have one system use voice commands, while your wife's Xbox won't (heck you'll use those voice commands more than she would!)

This is one of my all time games I have been looking forward to! I'm trying to shift away from pc gaming as my office is isolated, but my tv room connected to the kitchen (where she does her paperwork/vet school stuff stuff on the dining table, cooks in the kitchen or watches tv) is not isolated (and I spend enough time there as it is). And it's only fair to be in the same room when she's cooking for us. By then ill probably have both, but sucks that Xbox is not publisher friendly.

i saw a video on youtube (that summarizes xbox one).

Pretty much about the game disc being installed into your own xbox one hard drive,
but then the disc no longer has a purpose afterwards. Then they stated "well what if your friends have an xbox one and just use YOUR* disc and install it into their own xbox one hard drive and pay that small fee".

They will lose money like that, wont they?
