Next Generation Gaming Systems

I am just curious to see how people on this forum feel about the new systems over the horizon. I would like to read everyone’s thoughts and concerns, pros and cons, etc.

My relationship with Microsoft and the Xbox go back to the prerelease of the original system. I was actually honored enough to be a beta tester for the Xbox, and again with Xbox Live before it was introduced. So I lean very much towards this franchise for my gaming experience.

That said I am very unsettled and torn between the Xbox One and PS4. They both look to be very solid systems to bring us entertainment for many years to come. What concerns me with the Xbox One is the direction Microsoft has chosen to go with, and if you have done any reading you know what I mean.

Let’s face it anymore these two companies give just about the same quality in performance and graphics. I do not see the point in arguing those facts it is pretty much mute. As stated above though Microsoft has chosen a rough road with it gaming side of the system. At this point the only thing that makes me want an Xbox One is this: Illumiroom Wiki

I’m sure I will end up with both systems within a couple years but I really want to make sure I choose the right system first. I will be buying two of which ever one I decide on (one for the wife as well). It has always been the Xbox in the past, but this time I can’t decide on my own.

I've always Been a playstation fan...for some reason, the PS3 didn't let me down so I expect the same from PS4

Mr&Mrs 06-12-2013 12:56 AM

The only thing I dislike about my PS3 is the online gaming and updates. It was so much slower/laggy than the 360. That is why the 360 has been my goto system for online gaming.

Microsoft has announced an increase from 15,000 servers to 300,000 as well.

Wow I didn't know that, I once owned a xbox360 mainly because halo 3...I did enjoy the 360 and the playstation 3 but hard times made me decide on which to sell and I ended up with the PS3 because free online gaming lol...

Who knows I might end up with both again :)

I believe to play games online with the PS4 you will have to pay. How ever you can play games offline for free unlike the Xbox One.

I forgot to mention when I said the PS3's network was slow that the PS4 will have a max bandwidth of 176 GB/s 16x the PS3.

Ps4 games will remain free online from what I understood. There really are not major changes to the way things work. The only thing is that developers can choose whether to charge for used games...which may become important may not.

Oh I thought I read on the Wiki Page you would have to pay for the PS4 Multiplayer I will double check and correct the info.

Mr&Mrs 06-12-2013 02:04 AM

Online multiplayer access requires a subscription to PlayStation Plus.[50] Copy and pasted from Wiki. Is PSPlus free? If it is then you are correct if not my post is still correct. Im on my phone right now cant look up the info on PSPlus.

Nice! I will be to late probably to pre order and have to wait in line somewhere. Hopefully this thread and more news over the next month or two can help me figure it out quicker.

Thanks for the confirmation on the cost of online multiplayer for the PS4. It would have to be like 2.50 a month or less for it to be considerably cheaper than Xbox Live though.

MS is definitely going with the we don't care take what we offer or go somewhere else.
Xbox chief: we have a product for people who can't get online, it's called Xbox 360

Currently I am going for neither, they both offer nothing new in the realm of the console world. Yes they have better graphics and want you to use hands free gaming more but this generation console does all of that very well.

wheres the option for "I'm buying or sticking with PC?

Huck 06-12-2013 07:25 AM

I've been playing video games since Nintendo times, and when the first play station came out I got it. I've been using the PS platform ever since. I've owned an Xbox and and Xbox 360, and both of them died on me in less than 6 or 7 months. I hate paying for stuff when you've already paid for it, and honestly I doubt I'll pay for PSplus. That makes me mad. But Microsoft has been and will continue to be a bunch of Nazis that don't care about the wants or needs of their customers. I'll be sticking with Sony.

I survived Zdayz 2013
