Pretty good story, I got it from another site!
To the guy who mugged me and my girlfriend on Monday night - 32 (Miami) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: 2010-01-06, 10:36AM EST -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To the Thug Latino Guy With the Dumb Looking Mustache Who Tried to Mug Me in Downtown Miami night before last: I can only hope that you somehow come across this rather important message. I was the guy wearing the black Burberry jacket that you demanded that I hand over, shortly after you pulled the knife on me and my girlfriend, threatening our lives. You also asked for my girlfriend's purse and earrings. First, I'd like to apologize for your embarrassment; I didn't expect you to actually crap in your pants when I drew my pistol after you took my jacket. The evening was not that cold, and I was wearing the jacket for a reason. My girlfriend had just bought me that Kimber Model 1911 .45 ACP pistol for my birthday, and we had picked up a shoulder holster for it that very evening. Obviously you agree that it is a very intimidating weapon when pointed at your head ... Isn't it?! I know it probably wasn't fun walking back to wherever you'd come from with that brown sludge in your pants.. I'm sure it was even worse walking bare-footed since I made you leave your shoes, cell phone, and wallet with me. [That prevented you from calling or running to your buddies to come help mug us again]. After I called your "Mami" as you had her listed in your cell, I explained the entire episode of what you'd done. Then I went and filled up my gas tank as well as those of four other people in the gas station, -- on your credit card. The guy with the big motor home took 150 gallons and was extremely grateful! I gave your shoes to a homeless guy outside Vagabond, along with all the cash in your wallet. [That made his day!] I then threw your wallet into the big pink "pimp mobile" that was parked at the curb ... After I broke the windshield and side window and keyed the entire driver's side of the car. Later, I called a bunch of phone sex numbers from your cell phone. The phone company just now shut down the line, although I only used the phone for a little over a day now, so what 's going on with that? Earlier, I managed to get in two threatening phone calls to the DA's office and one to the FBI, while mentioning President Obama as my possible target. The FBI guy seemed really intense and we had a nice long chat (I guess while he traced your number etc.). In a way, perhaps I should apologize for not killing you ... But I feel this type of retribution is a far more appropriate punishment for your threatened crime. I wish you well as you try to sort through some of these rather immediate pressing issues, and can only hope that you have the opportunity to reflect upon, and perhaps reconsider, the career path you've chosen to pursue in life and the kind of crap that you put other people through every day. Remember, next time you might not be so lucky.Have a good day! Thoughtfully yours, Alex P.S. Remember this motto ... An armed society makes a civil society! http://miami.craigslist.org/mdc/mis/1539838256.html |

Springfield Mil Spec
I picked up a new Springfield Armory Mil Spec. It has better sites than the GI, lowered and flared ejection port, polished ramp, and nice wood grips. I paid $535 out the door. It came with two mags and a holster. It shoots great but the trigger is not as good as say the Taurus trigger. I don't really want a lighter trigger (it is a single action after all), just a cleaned up or smoothed out trigger. It is actually made by Imbel in Brazil. I would like to get a .45 auto with a 4" barrel for carry. I like STI but they are pricey.

Well every since I got my 9mm stolen from my house about a 1 or so ago, i've been itching to get a new one. I've been looking to get a xd 45 acp compact (4" barrel version). Although i rather prefer to get the xd "m" version but since this is california and there not approved to be sold here what can you do. Well there is a way to get one over here legally but i don't have any family members or friends that live out of this state to do so.
Anyways what are you thoughts on the xd models? It would be nice if you guys or gals can suggest any other brands and the reasons why and if possible a price. I'm not looking to spend a whole lot of money for a hand gun but, some where between 400 to 600. Thanks. I plan on getting one probably either this month or next. I just want some opinions on other brands. |

I can definitely relate to your problem. I left California in 1990. I was probably the only living NRA member in the Bay area. Much of what I have bought here in Missouri is not legal in California. I haev a brother still living in Fresno and my family is planning a rescue mission. I like the SIG 239 in 9mm. Drawbacks for some is that it is a single stack model so it holds only 8 rounds. Pluses include it is not hard to conceal, reliable, and shoots great. They can be pricey. I paid $660 but they have gone up. For concealed carry I like the Kahr MK40. Are they legal in California? This gun is no fun to shoot at the range but I got it for the concealed carry mission. Kahr makes good 9mms as well but they are not cheap. I really like the XD. I may get one eventually. I don't want to get into a Glock versus XD argument but, as much as I like the Glock 19, the XD fits me better. Hope this helps.

I have an acquaintance who has several Springfiled Mil Specs. He showed me step by step how he upgraded each one and they are really nice guns. His outlay was still way less than a mass produced "custom" gun. The nice thing is they can still be used over the stages of upgrades. Springfield has a menu of upgrades but if you can find a good local gunsmith you trust, you can save a lot of money and have a realy shooter.

I don't own one, yet, BUT I saw a TV show recently, where they had these three belles with a different handgun, each. One had a .357 Magnum, another a .44 Magnum and, the last one had a weapon I had NEVER seen or heard of before, a .500 Smith & Wesson.
Man, that thing was a mini-cannon! It blew into bits and pieces a huge watermelon. The .357 and the .44 also busted the watermelon, but the .500 S&W simply demolished the "poor" fruit! And, the best part, it has a lot less recoil than the .44! |
I'm pretty big into the firearms industry, built many different firearms and work on them on a regular basis. Primarily AR derived variations for precision engagements and target work. I am a sole believer in Bravo Company manufacturing, and smith and wesson M&P line. I carry and train with the M&P 9 Pro model and it got a great trigger from the factory 17 round capacity, smoother recoil then any of my HK guns ever had and just as accurate, replaced with Tritium fixed combat night sights (10-8) rear. stippled grip to further the grip in wet and adverse environments. its a dream gun.
as for sprignfield 1911, they are good guns, mil-spec model needs to have atleast 500+ rounds for breaking it in, if your seriouse about it send it off to a great 1911 smith like Mars armament. the guy will make it a real reliable pistol replacing all the factory MIM (cast) parts. also Springfield custom shop for sure is a well established and great place, they always work a guy and return it better and more reliable then when it left the factory. their Pro models are by far one of the best out the door factory guns available but pricey ($2,000+) |

I should have also mentioned that you should see if there is a range that allows you to rent some handguns that you are intrested in.

That was a great post and I read it twice. Good information. Do you have any take on the M&P Pistols from Smith? I handled one at a gun show and liked it. It is actually trimmer than it looks in the catalogue. Then I was on Gun Broker. A fellow there claimed he was with the San Diego or L.A. Sheriffs, I don't remember which, and they had recalled ALL the Smith M&P pistols because of so many malfunctions. I read the tests for this pistol in Gun Tests and they didn't mention anything about malfunctions. Any help would be appreciated.

In My Opinion
|
Smith and Wesson M&P line is a great line of handguns and rifles. The pistols are awsome. I own a M&P 9 Pro witch comes with longer 5" barrel, and performance center trigger (Tool steal trigger parts for better trigger pull and reset and around 4.5lbs of trigger pull) perfect for fast follow ups and a better trigger will help in being a better shooter. longer barrel helps out some with 9mm ballistics and sight radius (length of sights) the interchangable grips allow one to fit the handgun to them as best as possible. all those features beat out glocks, XDs, etc... and priced right and made here in USA with excellent S&W service. one of the highly recommended handguns I always tell newr shooters and someone looking for a new handgun to check out. don't be surprised if you shoot one then go out and buy it, seams to be a trend with all who have shot mine.
YMMV |

I am confident that what you say is correct. I wish I could remember where I read it, but on some site, or magazine, an alleged deputy sheriff from LA said that his department recalled all the Smith M&P's due to massive malfunctions. I have read it no where else so I wonder if this is legit. I held one at a gun show and you are correct. They look big in pictures but are actually thinner than the Glock or XD, feel better in the hand than the Rugers, and the price was very right. I am reconsidering not getting one. Your post helped. Thanks.

Thanks!

Well the gun show is in 2 weeks here so I'm saving up my next two paychecks then going to see if I can get a good price on a Mil spec  I'm hoping I can get one in the $400-$500.

the sigs aren't that great. had one, shot it alot, like it was said trigger sucks. if you want an rifle that usses AR magazines, and shoots 556mm. (.223) buy a quality spec'd AR (Bravo Company USA, COLT, LMT, and the piston driven LWRCI) SIG makes gerat handguns, and in my opinion don't need to or should make those kind of rifles. If you are able to compare them side by side the the Mil-Spec AR or similiar piston driven LWRCI rifles, the Sig is over shadowed in many ways, not just the trigger.

Supreme Court Hands Down Key Campaign Finance Decision--
Repeals Unconstitutional Restrictions on Political Speech Friday, January 22, 2010 NRA praised the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision yesterday in the case of Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission that removed unconstitutional restrictions on NRA’s ability to speak freely at election time. The late Sen. Paul Wellstone had said during the original debate over this legislation that it was his intention to silence groups like NRA. While the author of this measure had singled out NRA, this law delivered a clear message to all American citizens: “Keep your mouths shut and stay out of our political debates.” NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre, said, “This ruling is a victory for anyone who believes that the First Amendment applies to each and every one of us. The majesty of free speech is that any American can roll out of bed and speak as freely as The New York Times, NBC or politicians. This is a defeat for arrogant elitists who wanted to carve out free speech as a privilege for themselves and deny it to the rest of us; and for those who believed that speech had a dollar value and should be treated and regulated like currency, and not a freedom. Today’s decision reaffirms that the Bill of Rights was written for every American and it will amplify the voice of average citizens who want their voices heard.” The case originally centered on the Federal Election Commission’s (FEC) denial of Citizens United’s attempt to broadcast a film about Hillary Clinton through on-demand cable services in January 2008, but had broader implications in protecting the First Amendment rights of organizations like NRA during elections. NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris W. Cox, said, “This decision today returns sanity to our political system. The First Amendment does not allow Congress to make laws denying Americans the right to speak out on issues, the right to assemble or organize on public policy issues, or the right to petition our government for redress of grievances.” NRA-ILA has been in the forefront of defending the First Amendment so we can protect the Second Amendment. This ruling is clearly a victory for our continuing efforts to educate voters on where politicians stand on our fundamental, individual Right to Keep and Bear Arms. So what ever happened with your plan to get the AR? Did I miss that post?
I personally like the Sig 556 that blue posted. Never shot one, but I've held it. |

You planning to put optics on that thing?

Those are nice ARs
Very nice ARs. I have a few and kept to the iron sights. There are many reasons to go to optics. Mine are designed for self defense and I wanted to see what I could do as far as training and shooting with the battle sights. I may add other goodies later but never really cared for laser lights.

Thanks! This is my 2nd AR, I regretted selling the first one immediately after selling it. I haven't had a chance to shoot this one yet, I've been under the weather all week which has sucked. Can't wait to get this one on the range to sight it in, hopefully next weekend!
