Also, DD is quicker to market than Colt, as Colt chased military for as long as possible and DD has been a .mil supplier as well as catering to the civilian world. DD is just so much faster to market their concepts.

I think Daniel Defense is excellent and I would have absolutely no concerns with owning a DD rifle. I put them at least on par with Colt.

I like DD as well.

I wouldn't do that unless you know exactly what you're doing. If you want a better trigger for an M&P, consider a tried and true solution...a DCAEK from Apex Tactical. I have at least a few thousand rounds through my M&P 9L since putting one in a couple of years ago and it's excellent.

We can tell you brand X and Y is this and that. But often, Ar advice will be biased. Keep it moving on the reading. Dont just look at Core- look at the tried and true brands, supposed crappy brands. find both positive and negative reviews. Weigh the reasons out and make sure the negative or positive sound valid enough to take the recommendation. "Things like it just looks so cool is not a good review." Endurance test vids are a good indicator of performance...
At first, the more you read, the more you will get confused cuz rule of law and brand loyalty shouldn't go together, but it does. Over time, the truth is revealed and you find out what really works and what doesn't. I'm not saying you're not going to get generally good advice, but a lot of advice comes from limited research. One may know something the other doesn't.

Lastly, get out to ranges. Test em out for yourself. Shoot your friends AR's. That will add to the reviews. You can usually get a feel for popular brands at ranges. (Colt, bushmaster, Stag, RRA, etc)
AR's are a big world with too much info. but once you have as much knowledge as possible? It makes life easier. Lastly, off the rack, there's no such thing as the perfect AR. That's why they have such a huge aftermarket.

Better yet, see if you can attend a high round-count carbine course---EVEN IF YOU JUST WATCH! I am sure that if you know someone, they would hook you up. You be the go-for that gets the guys sammiches, I bet you could watch free of charge, and soak up a TON! of info, see what breaks/what doesn't, etc. without spending a dime.

You may choose to be more involved, and that's great, I just don't want to sound like I'm telling you to burn a few $K in ammo, etc. and rent a weapon just to figure out what to buy, but if you want to, it's experience that is well worth it!

Hey, I just bought two more mags for $15 each. feels great not getting raped for the $40 these mags are going for. I bought two for less than the going rate on one.:happydance: These are 5.56 though. the last one's were sick.8's.

 Maybe Bloomberg is right to be concerned about "assault weapons" in untrained hands. Maybe he should be training his ESU personnel.

(note: the Eotech optical sight on the AR that the guy is trying to look through is on backwards. No wonder he has his BUIS deployed).

In the NYC category, however, there is this guy, who appears to have his Aimpoint CompM3 installed backwards.

At least she has good trigger discipline and I'm guessing the one injured man wasn't by her.

Reminds me of a time I took a liberal do-gooder know-it-all uncle to the range. I was gonna show him how to use my Glock and he says he fine, he's used one before, so I let him be. I go do my thing then come back to him when he's about to go hot, and when he goes to rack the slide nothing happens. The idiot inserted the magazine correctly, but he loaded it with the cartridges facing him

Joepro 03-15-2013 10:03 PM

Went with the core15, still on the DD email list tho! Barely even appear fired, but the owner claimed 200 rounds. Has Houge grip, magpug Mbus, Took off the front grip, I do not like it. Will be looking for a magpul foregrip and CTR stock an sightmark reflex(suggestions welcome on others, all my buddies have them, price point I believe). Also came with 3 new magpul window mags. All the internals are mil spec and chrome lined where the should be, much beefier than my buddies $1200 bushy...he was a bit jealous that I paid less haha.

I put about 500 rounds through the AR today, very pleased. I really dig the aimpoint pro.

I also checked out a G34 I'm thinking about getting for range use...torn between it and an XDm or M&P. any of you guys have any thoughts?

I'm currently also lusting over a 10mm and need to talk myself out of it.

I have xdm 45 5.25 and a mp45 threaded barrel kit.

Both are fantastic pieces, love them equally, if I HAD to choose one, it would be the XDM, justl like how it shoots a tad better, it does have a longer and match grade barrel, and it easier to take down, no sear disconnect crap or tool. However, a coin flip will do, worst feature on both are the triggers, the MP trigger is worse tho, but a DIY polish and sanding/cut will fix that. Haven't looked into doing the XDM trigger. I think the MP grip is FANTASTIC.

Glocks are nice, my buddy has 3, shoot well, but they do not fit my hands like the XDM and MP, and look like crap, MP and XDM have Swag, because that is important!

Who has far too much .223 and, wants to part with a few hundred rounds? Only ammo I can find is 1.00 @ per round...it will collect dust at those prices. Tried the Walmart ammo trick, my buddy had used it, but they blew me off.

I have over 1k rounds of ADI SS109 I'd be willing to part with at a reasonable price.

Nice gun. Just an advice. I know you're not trying to spend too much cash on your sight going with sightmark. But may I recommend you look at the Burris Fastfire II. The sightmark is better featured but the Burris has the features ou need but is also combat tough. Something the sightmark won't be and for $30 more. i'd take combat tough anyday. But again, opinions are like a-holes and that's just mine.

Who likes a quality rifle for 10 dollars? Well a charity that is very near and dear to my heart that focuses on fighting veteran homelessness, suicide, and unemployment is holding a giveaway for a frankenstein rifle. 10 bucks per entry, and it goes to a good cause. Just check it out at Decendants of Sparta Giveaway Rifle | Monderno

Thank you guys. This isn't a huge charity, it is very small still and very grassroots, but with veteran suicide so high, I constantly worry about my veteran brothers. for the price of a pack of smokes, you can possibly win this nice lookin rifle.

Thanks for putting up with this plug.

Senate gun bill won't include assault weapons ban

SouthArk370Z 03-19-2013 08:00 PM

If anyone is interested, I have made a spreadsheet that shows distance to target given height of object and milliradians. Set up as a table with object heights across the top, mils on the side, and distances in the middle. Excel5 format (should import into most spreadsheet programs, including OpenOffice). You can download here. Feel free to make suggestions/comments.

Red__Zed 03-19-2013 08:21 PM

buying a full-size pistol, debating .45 vs 9mm and trying to figure out what I want.

Shot a G21, liked it, would prefer longer sight radius

Shot an XDm 45, would prefer better trigger and price more inline with the glocks

Shot a G34, liked it a lot, wish it shot big bullets.

ugh.

My father just got an XDs, and I intend to get one eventually now that my XDm will be in my hands soon enough. That one will be legal regardless of new legislation, so I can drag my feet on it.

Yeah, on the 4.5's. I'm really only interested in the comp model. I'd like the extra sight radius if I'm going with a big gun.

What's up gents! Wanted to share my latest purchases. Still have my RRA LAR-15 Operator Elite on order. However when I was home in January I picked up an Ambush Firearms (by Daniel Defense) 5.56. Still pretty basic; added flashlight and forward grip. I only had time to put 100rds through it before returning to Iraq. I think I'll sell it when my RRA arrives. Basically wanted it in case of the ban coming through but think we're good there now.

And my most current additions are for my Benelli M4...

ATI's Raven M4 Stock

http://www.atigunstocks.com/img/p/587-3966-thickbox.jpg

Ordering today; Stock, Forend, Heat shield and, Mag Tube Picatinny Rail Shroud.

Also picked up CarrierComp's "DG" PARKERIZED Tone Titanium (7rd) mag tube and SideArmor's Quick Detach Standard Short Rail with 6rd Shell Holder.

Might add an EoTech as well.
