I cast my own handgun bullets too. Use a 20 lbs Lyman furance and sizer luber. I cast bullets for 9mm, 38/357, 2 different 44's, 2 different 45's, and 40/10mm. When I worked at Elliott. We had a bearing dept that made babbit bearings. So I had a good supply of different lead alloys. Still have about 500 lbs in the garage.

Hmmm..... I need to check my stock of lead 9 & 45... I might have to DM you for some bullets...

On the 9mm, 38/357, and 44's. I use a gas check on the base of them.

Haven't had a chance to shoot my 300BLK AR pistol yet because my local ranges are weird about AR/AK pistols. Most have flat out ban AR/AK pistols. One range allows AR/AK pistols but they have to have braces. There is one that allows all AR/AK pistols but I hate that range. The restrictions aren't due to legal concerns like dealing with AFT rulings. It is all due to stupid people not controlling their guns. For example; I had a discussion with one range's staff and their ban came after the owner of the range saw a guy with an AK pistol buy 100 rounds, shoot all of them at the same target and only 6 rounds hit the target. If it wasn't hunting season I would just go in the woods and blast away. I probably will build a standard lower with a brace later on making it easier to shoot it in general.

Any of you guys have issues with AR/AK Pistols at public ranges?

At my gun club. You can shoot anything. Long as you don't do a mag dump. I can also go to a state game land range and do anything if no one is around.

This talk about AR pistols wants me to build a AR SBR 300 with a 12" barrel . An OSS suppressor. The upper and lower would be an ASA side cocking.

I've come across two ranges that don't allow AR pistols. I was told directly that it is because of them covering their *** for potential legal issues. Technically if you put the buffer tube of an AR pistol to your shoulder as if it's a stock then you're using it as an SBR and violating the NFA in a major way. I don't know if it's been tested in court, but an ATF agent with a bug up his *** can make a lot of trouble for you and the range. Gotta keep the buffer tube off your shoulder.

That is not true. Shouldering a buffer tube does not make an AR pistol a SBR (based on current FTA rulings). The buffer tube on a AR pistol is not designed to nor intended to be a stock. Just because you are using it in a way not desgined/intended for does not "redesign" the weapon. What if I shoulder a regular pistol/revolver? Is it suddenly a SBR? No. This is also true when it comes to braces. Braces are not intended/designed to be a stock so if it is shouldered it doesn't make it a SBR. Now if you modify a brace in any way other than how it is came from the manufacture then you could be in legal hot water because it could be viewed as a redesign. Now another legal grey area is intent. If you go on the record saying your are planning to use a brace as a stock to bypass the NFA then you are in the wrong. Also stupid.

dts3, If you had said something like "Even though the ATF has ruled that shouldering AR pistols is okay, I'm not going to because in my opinion it too much of an grey area" (or something like that) I can respect that. Saying that shouldering AR/AK pistols is illegal and violates the NFA, please don't take this the wrong way, is uninformed or irresponsible. Just my and please treat it as such.

The ATF has yet to arrest anybody nor shut down a range over the pistol brace or shouldering pistols. Only one person has been arrested and charged by local LEO, not ATF, for shouldering a Sig Brace but that was when they first came out. Those charges were dropped after that local LEO consulted with the ATF and the ATF said he had not violate NFA rules. All the ranges in my area are not worried about the ATF WRT AR/AK pistols. They are worried about damage to their ranges due to idiots not controlling their AR/AK pistols.

Stupid people have caused too many restrictions at my local ranges. I'm glad I have access to a private range. How ever that private range is part of a hunt club and it is gun hunting season so the range is unavailable for awhile. Also Stupid people caused the 2015 ATF letter WRT pistol braces as Mac talked about in the vid above.

I'm going to build an SBR at some point. Really would like to SBR a X95 in 300BLK with a stubby suppressor of some sort.

An AR pistol is a little more practical for me at the moment. One reason is traveling with it across state lines. I live close to a state line and I don't want to have to deal with asking the ATF for permission to travel to another state with it. I'm not trying to get around the NFA, I'm just more willing to deal with the cons of an AR pistol than the cons of a SBR at the moment. Also I travel a lot for work and having NFA items would make things difficult. Hopefully in the near future that will change and once I have settled in where ever I ended up I will be building/buying some NFA items.

For those who don't know about traveling with NFA items:

Grabbed a Sig Sauer Romeo5 RD on sale at Palmetto state armory. Now I need to find the time to go to the range. Might add the Juliet magnifier too if it goes on sale.

Fair points. I was using the reasos/logic given to me by the range master to confirm my apparently incorrect understanding. What you mentioned about intent is more or less where I was going with my post
