Getting closer to buying a new piece to conceal. Having a hard time deciding between Springfield XDs, Kahr P9, and M&P shield. I've got a guy that built my AR leaning me toward the M&P and doing a trigger job on it. Kinda worried about doing that for a concealed piece though, given the legal issues.
I bought an XDs for my wife (right) and it's a fantastic piece. Very comfortable for such a small. 45.

Is the M&P has a heavy trigger pull too?
Mine has a 8lbs trigger pull took me a couple of hundred rounds to get used to it. I have a SD-9 cheap but reliable gun, replica of Glock 19.

I bought my dad an M&P Shield .40 a while back and I liked it quite a lot. I'd like to shoot both that and the XDs .45 side by side to see which one I like better as those are the two I'm considering for CC. The Shield seemed like a solid piece, but I think the value is better with the XD series with all the swag it comes with. I still love my XDm .40

M&P trigger is easily modified. The DCAEK or FSS from Apex Tactical will make it into a really excellent trigger. Easy install.

Getting closer to buying a new piece to conceal. Having a hard time deciding between Springfield XDs, Kahr P9, and M&P shield. first of all DONT do a trigger job on any ccw, aside from it not being as safe it's mostly a legal thing. (I would search modding a carry gun legality)

don't get the XDs if u want 9mm it was designed for .45 and the 45 version is real small for a .45. (lighter then the 9mm) it's why the xds was created, them they made it work as a 9 after. for round count weight and size it's a sh!**y 9mm compared to others.

there's a bunch of info on that if u search for it.

if u compare the xd's in 9mm to others it's not the best option, but if u want the .45 it stands out and sets itself apart.

I kinda liked the kahr pm9 but for the money it cost an when it comes to reliability it can be picky with ammo u feed it.

when it comes to my life and what weapon I'll trust with it for me it's either the Xd line or glock.
just don't get that new Glock 42 it's absolutely a FAIL....

let me say this before I say me next sentence, I do like some American guns company's and model's. (mostly for rifles).
an no offense but a lot (not all) of the older generations or cops always lean towards 911, s&w, beretta or metal frame handguns and still will not trust glocks for being the most reliable and simple. just because there stubborn.
NOT ALL PEOPLE

also I don't want a hammer an my ccw

just do some more searching before u buy and as long as u are confident with it that's all that matters because chances are u will never use it aside from in a range
( also a good point as that u would want whatever u pick to be fun to shoot regularly at the range an not too small or snappy on an uncomfortable way)

nutnfancy is always a good source of info when it comes to this stuff!

nice, cool thing about that is u can slide a .357 glock barrel in and be able to switch back from one to another!!

and I would check out gold minor. I buy almost all my weapons through them!

Trigger jobs on carry guns are fine. From a safety standpoint, it might be a good idea to not get the trigger pull too light, but a 6 lb trigger with a nice crisp break make for a nice shooting pistol that is completely safe. The "legality" issues are a non-factor according to my buddy, who is the county attorney. On an M&P, an Apex ultimate striker block and machined sear will really clean up that trigger. Doesn't necessarily change the trigger pull unless you leave the original return spring.

If you're looking for a full size pistol with a great trigger out of the box, clearly the leaders in that pack are the Walther PPQ and the HK VP9. My preference is the VP9, but it's about a horse apiece comparing it to the PPQ. Both are truly exceptional pistols and IMHO both have better triggers than even an M&P with trigger upgrade (although the FSS does come close). Somewhere along the way, I developed a substantially negative attitude toward the Xd's. I've seen too many reliability issues and ammo "finnickyness". I had a Glock 19, but it was a piece of crap (unreliable ejection and super-creepy trigger). I fixed it with an Apex FRE and newer ejector, then dumped it. I'll never fall for the Glock trap again.

My personal preference for carry is a Walther PPS. Small and slim, shoots like a full-size. I looked hard at the M&P Shield, but at the time they only made it with a manual safety, which I absolutely did not want. Now, they have a Shield version without the safety and that might be worth a look. Apex makes trigger improvement kits for the Shield too, although I've never shot one with an upgraded trigger. I did look at Kahr and put several boxes through my buddy's PM9, but it was expensive for what it is, and I didn't want to have to go through what he went through to get it to be reliable.

If you're going to carry a gun, don't be one of those guys that takes your state's permit-to-carry course and stops there thinking that you're now qualified to use a pistol to defend your life. Please keep moving on and take some defensive pistol classes as well.

I've been wearing aSig p938 for a few years. It's a nice mix of very small and still decent 9mil power. It's 1911 style so you have to get comfortable with "locked and loaded" It's fun at the range (once you get used to it) and once you get an extended mag it fits the hand nicely without to much "printing"

I'm actually buying both these pistols for x mas. Addingbthem to my collection of 9mm. I never liked the Glocks or any of it's imitators till these two. Since I can't choose. I'm getting both.

Just got back from the range - trying to finalize my decision... didn't like the glock so much, really liked the PPQ. For whatever reason I was just a lot more accurate with it. Then the guy working at the range let me borrow his new VP9! Sweet! That's the one for me. Trigger was as you described and I was able to fire it accurately, just behind the PPQ. Next stop, NC permit, then I'm going to try and pick one up on holiday special.
