Never bought a gun from them, but I do have a charge on my credit card from ammo that I bought in December...that they still haven't shipped.

Yea, I have read about there shipping taking forever. I was going to go to the factory and buy an AR15 in person. Was told by a sales rep that I can walk in and out in 15 minutes with a an AR15 if I wanted too. It was something like 900 dollars for a basic AR15.

Hi! This is my first post on this thread. Anyone who has a kimber 1911? If you were to choose between custom eclipse target vs custom cdp II, what would it be? Thanks in advance

I've never known anyone who's had a good experience with a Kimber. I'd rather have a loaded Springfield for less money, or step up to something like a Les Baer or Dan Wesson.

Texas is one state where a NICS check isn't required of people with a CHL. Despite Texas' otherwise mildly restrictive handgun laws, skipping NICS is "common sense" IMHO if you've already undergone a background check for the CHL.
Exactly, and any infraction, the first thing you lose is your CHL. So here, you gotta walk straight like an arrow.

How much are you looking to spend? What are you using it for? A 1911 is tough to conceal if you're looking for a carry piece. If you go with less than a 4" barrel, reliability becomes a concern. If I was going for a self defense pistol, I'd look at springfield or rock river. That should get you out the door for $700-1000. Run it by a local pistol smith for a trigger job and some polishing, and you've got a better pistol than a Kimber.

A Colt Gold Cup wouldn't be too bad either in that price range. Unless you spend $2k on one, they'll all need a pistol smith to polish some stuff and clean up the trigger.

$2k would be too much for me. colt gold cup is pretty sharp too. Overall, what manufacturer do you recommend when it comes to reliability?

You need to do a looooot of reading on 1911's. Advice will be extremely subjective and Bias. But, what i can tell you. The best, most reliable 1911's are the ones that you order from world famous gunsmiths and wait for because they are being hand built.

Buying an expensive factory produced 1911 doesn't guarantee reliability.

Every bit of this. My Les Baer bullseye gun is a work of art. Always feeds, always fires, and shoots a 1" group at 50 yds from a rest with hand loads. The price was on a level with the performance. For a budget 1911, I stand by a Springfield, RRA or colt. Whatever you choose, budget a couple hundred for a gunsmith to tune it up.
