Noveske barrels...polygonal rifling...

I am going back and forth between a Trijicon RMR, Reflex and Aimpoint of some sort. RMR is probably going to win.

What is a polygonal rifling? POF uses a 5R polygonal rifling.

Most barrels have a round hole then grooves are cut into the sides of the cylinder. At that point the twist is added, so you have a spiraling set of lands and grooves.

For polygonal rifling, some sort of shape with multiple sides (i.e. polygon) is cut into the barrel then it is twisted. So the lands and grooves are more gradual and subtle being formed by the corners of the polygon.

It is supposed to have a few advantages; more backpressure, more even backpressure on all sides of the bullet, easier to clean and less wear.

I am guessing that 5R means an octogon is the shape POF uses as their polygon shape. H&K and now Glock use polygonal rifling as well. Apparently it is more expensive since Noveske barrels are typically $500+.

I don't know if it will be announced at SHOT or not, but Magpul will be introducing a couple of items of interest, beyond the new Pmags.

Image of their new 40-round Pmag, as well as a rubberized MOE forearm grip similar to the overmolded rubberized MOE pistol grip they announced a couple of months ago (as also seen in this picture). I have that pistol grip...it's excellent (althougth only available in black so far).

I have actually gone the other way and bought some 20-round Pmags. I do like the look of that folding front sight with that full-length MOE forearm. It looks like my weekend project is to swap out the fixed front sight on my Bushy Dissipator with an extra YHM folding front sight I have laying around.
