Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp has declared a state of emergency in response to high inflation, blaming policies coming out of Washington, D.C.

Kemp is temporarily suspending Georgia's excise tax -- taxes enforced on particular goods, services and activities -- on motor and locomotive fuel, his office said in a press release on Tuesday.

The governor said Georgia residents will save "31.2 cents per gallon of gasoline and 35 cents per gallon of diesel fuel" under the state of emergency.

I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth, but I don't like this new trend of calling "State Emergencies" to gain political points. For what? a couple of weeks of cheap gas? What's next, to take my firearms away? Oh, wait...

This is nothing more than Brandon tapping our strategic reserves for "cheap" gas prices during the midterms.

I might be able to afford to get to the grocery store now, but I still can't buy anything.

Laugh of the day...

IRS investing wages paid by a fishing captain to his deckhand and sent an agent to investigate him.

IRS AUDITOR: "I need a list of your employees and how much you pay them."

BOAT OWNER: "Well, there's Clarence, my deck hand, he's been with me for 3 years. I pay him $1,000 a week plus free room and board.

Then there's the mentally challenged guy. He works about 18 hours every day and does about 90% of the work around here. He makes about $10 per week, pays his own room and board, and I buy him a bottle of Bacardi rum and a dozen beers every Saturday night so he can cope with life. He also gets to sleep with my wife occasionally."

IRS AUDITOR: "That's The guy I'm here here to talk to- The mentally challenged one."

BOAT OWNER: "That would be me. What would you like to know?"

"Does Gen Z struggle more with mental health than millennials? New polling shows signs of a shift"

"A smaller share of Gen Z is thriving compared to millennials at the same age, and members of Gen Z are far less likely to describe their mental health as “excellent,” according to a new study."

This is what happens when you mix too much pride with arrogance and entitlement. And I thought the decline of humanity started with my generation (Millennials), but we are saints compared to Gen Z. They are in for a very rude awakening.

"Mortgage rates inch up, lingering above 7%"

If you have the means and ability to buy a home, then by all means proceed. You can always refinance the home when rates drop, all the while you are building wealth/equity.

That being said, for those that are wondering when rates will drop, a very strong indicator of where mortgage rates are headed is inflation, as these 2 have a very strong correlation with each other.

Contrary to popular belief, the Federal Reserve does NOT set/determine mortgage rates.

Not sure if anyone posted this - but I guess my 'hope' of auto prices starting to go down will be just a figment of my imagination:

https://www.npr.org/2023/09/15/11996...g-3-automakers

A historic strike at the Detroit Three automakers is now underway.

For the first time ever, the United Auto Workers union is striking against all Big Three automakers at once, after it failed to clinch a deal on a new contract by the 11:59 p.m. deadline on Thursday.

Nope, expect car prices to go up even further.

The Good: Not all automakers are affected by the strike and only pertains to the American car manufacturers. Most foreign automakers are not unionized, so this wouldn't apply to them, though they could possibly capitalize on this.

The Bad: Expect for car prices to continue to rise on top of already inflated pricing. Car prices have elevated due to supply shortages and this shortage will only get worse. Keep in mind that semiconductors require Neon gas to be produced, and 70% of the global supply comes from Ukraine, which is currently fighting a war, so there is a good chance they are not focused on Neon gas production.

The Ugly: Expect for elevated car prices to stay inflated, paired with elevated interest rates. Unless you are paying cash, you are paying alot more to borrow only for less value/buying power.

Seen an interview where the guy said that EV's take 40% less man hours to produce than a ice vehicle. That was an eye opener.

The other part is a steady supply of lithium. Only a few places mine it. With what the gov't wants with the EV's. There won't be enough to supply all the proposed EV's. BUT they JUST found an area along the Idaho border that may be the biggest yet. Lets see what the Greenies do about it. Can't have your cake and eat it too.

That's a good point. Maybe they'll start making electric bulldozers by then?

The Rouge's lease is up in June. I have a $30,000 buyout. Will have about 15,000 miles on it then. I'm curious how this is going to play out.

Will they give me more for it? Will $30,000 be a bargain and I buy it? I hate the unknown...

I can’t help but think this strike has something to do with EV’s. Rusty just quoted that it takes 40% less time to make them. That’s a lot of man hours lost forever.

Did you only do a year lease? Seems like you JUST sold the Z and got the Rogue.

And I'm curious about this as well. Never leased a car before and wondering how this would all work.

We, as a society, are not ready yet to simply switch over completely to EV. Too many wrinkles to iron out. I'm sure it will get phased in, but over time.

People, IMO, also are not ready to completely switch over.

The strike will lead to more automation on the line resulting in fewer jobs. Just seen in California where a bill is awaiting the governor's signature. It will raise the fast food workers wage to $20.00 an hour, plus a few other thing in the bill will raise the cost. This will lead to more automation in Micky D's. Leading to fewer jobs.

My wife and I were talking about that last night. $20 an hour to flip burgers is a damn good gig! Sign us up!

I was an offset printing press operator. Made a good living until technology made us obsolete. It doesn’t take skill to push a big green PRINT button.

I couldn’t switch to an EV if I wanted to. I have 200 amp service coming in and not a breaker space to add.

I can’t imagine what it would cost to upgrade my service and add a new breaker box.

Comes with living in the sticks.

The issue with raising minimum wage, esp. during inflation, is that this will kill off many jobs. Companies aren't going to take a hit on their bottom line and CEO's aren't going to take a lower bonus, much less a pay cut, so the only option is to limit workforce overhead.
